Flat out, if you aren’t aware of where you’re going to be then mother fuckers are going to get robbed. I think the best course of action for this, is to postpone and find a new venue. I don’t think a lot of people will come now, if they know that this area is not safe.
So, that’s just a suggestion, but I think if you go through with this, someone may get something robbed, or someone will say the wrong thing, and end up being seriously injured or killed.

I don’t think a lot of people were planning on coming in the first place - this thread is almost a month old and no one has been posting. I think the people from the south that know the area weren’t taking it seriously.

I’ve gotten various information over the past few days, and it REALLY is a bad place. I’m here in Augusta, and people here even say to stay away.
I’m still on the fence about going or not though, but we’ll have to see if Jinmaster and x3o say about all of this I guess.
Let me know if they have a marvel or 3s tourney. Also, you should go to atl one weekend, and then all of you come to my house here in the AUG man. I need you to teach me that higher MSS yo…

See I hadn’t been out that way at all, but I trust my fellow GA peeps when it comes to this, if they say it’s a bad area (and it’s more than one person who is getting that info) than I’m inclined to believe them. I mean there may be not a lot of love for Jinmaster, but I really doubt they’d try to kill an event that no doubt cost you money to set up for anything petty like that.
Even if people aren’t there to rob people and junk, there’s no reason to put yourself in a bad enviroment on purpose. Sometimes it’s just smart to keep your head clear of that stuff, sure you may not run into trouble, but you certainly won’t get into trouble down there if you’re not down there.
Hell it’s not like I’m good enough yet to win any money so I’ll just figure out where other peeps are playing.
I was on the fence of going, but hearing about the location has definitely turned me off.
I’ll definitely be at AWA, though. I know they’re holding tourneys for Melty Blood, SSB:M, T5, SC3, and GGXX/, and 3S and CvS2 are on the “high-priority” list if they have the time to run them. Yeah, I know that’s a bit out-of-order, but you can’t expect too much from an anime con.

guys…as I said before…its not a good area…I said it. I also said that there will be police there throughout the event…I cant ask anyone to go somewhere where they will be putting themselves in harms way but I will be there so its not like Im sending people to a death trap. Id love to see a crack head trying to run up to someone talking about “I’ll suck your stick for $20” though. I mean seriously man I did do my research and my family owns the place. But its whatever. THere are other people that ARENT family of mine that are helping and endorsing this event too so the thoughts arent unanimous. Jury is still out. Those that come will see and those that dont will see pictures…and no MY camera is not going to get stolen ;).

One more thing I just thought of. Going to this will be no more different (because of the fact that there is police and security there) than going to a major sports venue like RFK Stadium to watch a game. How many hood niggas do you know that actually GO to watch soccer…and RFK is in one of the WORST areas of DC. Soccer fans do NOT look like they belong there either…and they have way more expensive cars than gamers do. Just to give you a frame of reference.
And in the off chance that something does happen, like stolen merchandise, dont fake like sticks and games and even consoles havent been stolen at an event before…it happened at Evo East…which, by the way, was in the HOOD lol wow…and anyone that went knows that they had to travel their ass walking (me included) to go get food in the middle of the hood, no incidents at all. Granted Im sure none of them were silly enough to bring their stick out hunting for food with them…the ones that got their shit stole were inside the hotel…away from the hood.

The venue is not in the best area, however, the particular PLAZA which the event is held in is VERY RESPECTED amoung the community. In the plaza sits a BARBARSHOP where many people go to, and respect the owners of the PLAZA and the BARBARSHOP in general. Also, even RAPPERS D4L and the FRANCHISE BOYS go on a weekly basis. Also TI has been to that particular barbarshop as well.

Not really, at the BARBARSHOP, they play Madden all day, and they bet for hundreds of dollars everyday. I’ve heard the most someone bet at the Barbarshop was like $2,000 for a game of Madden. And no, the guy didnt get mad, and spray his gat all over the place. If you lose, you lose, you take it like a man, thats how it is. All in all, if someone wanted to rob a gaming event, the Barbarshop where they gamble on the regular would of gotten robbed a long time ago.

Yea, we PAID 2 security guards who have guns. They will be walking around, and outside as well. We even let the local police know of the event, so they will patrol the area as well for even added security. We tried to hire ROBOCOP, but he was busy that weekend, sorry.

Look. Mike and damon understand what they are doing. THey know it isnt a good area so they decided to make sure that everything was as sure as possible. I mean come on. What other promoter do you know would go through this much shit for an event. Cut these 2 some slack i mean shit. They HIRED 2 people to help make sure this event went fine. I mean shit Thats money out of there pockets and think of how much they have done for the community this far??? The least you could do is go. I mean shit. Not every place is gonna be the crystal palace. sometimes you gotta take what you can get. and thats what these 2 have done. They are going out of there way to make sure everything is perfectly fine. Is that a promise no… Nothing is ever promised to you but they are attempting to ensure everyones safety and that should be enough
They’ve taken the best measures they can for your safety folks. That alone says how much they want you to attend the event. They’ve requested police, and are paying security!?!?!? Come on. People whine because their gear gets stolen at a hotel, but I guess they felt “safe” there so they got over it. Like they said earlier, it’ll be like going to most sporting events and as long as you don’t put yourself out there you should be fine. Funny thing is, with security and police there it’ll probably be less risky than most tourneys in hotels.
