I have no clue where to jump in on this current topic with my week long work departure, so I’ll just sit back and watch the banter.

I’ll give some input though: I’ll admit I was turned off at first to KoF XI due to the same big three being in at least every team during tournaments. But the same could be said to 3s, ST, CvS2, etc.

It happens in fighting games, but it’s not like they will be dominate forever. People always find ways around stuff, besides it’s not like every character in here is horrible. I’ve been planning to take a Terry/Ryo/Ash team to a tournament once I get used to the game.

Out of the top fighters, CvS2 has the most flexibility of tiers do to the grooves.

Though it’s usually A-Vega/Bison/Blanka, A-Sakura/Bison/Blanka or C-Vega/Sagat/Blanka.

OTHER characters in other grooves still have a chance.

One of the CvS2 tourneys they had before SBO a dude using C-Maki/Dhalsim/Rolento R2 won.

Next for diversity would be ST

I’ve seen Ryu, Ken, Dhalsim, Boxer, O.Sagat, Bison (dic), Vega (Claw)…actually I’ve probably seen every character except maybe Cammy and Fei-Long win tournaments.

Same with 3S actually except with Sean.

Japan loves originality and diversity, they play cause it’s fun and they play in their spare time. i.e. after work waiting for their train.

The “top tier whore” ness basically came from america and it’s lame.

Granted, BOTH sides, america and japan found out the who what when where and why’s of each game and why said character/team is top tier, but that doesn’t stop japan (and a SMALL ) hand full of american players.

But america just drives the top tier whoreness into the ground…it’s almost sickening.

I mean I am no low tier martyr to any extremes, but I do hate it when people go “play top characters or you suck”. Shit is annoying.

Granted, I play it and all I used was Storm/Sent/Cyclops for like 6+ years. But I fucking hate the game and only use low tier now cause even though I lose (a lot) it’s the only way I actually have fun playing the game any more.

True, true. What SH meant ( I think) is that there’s a higher chance of finding low-tier character users in Japan than there are in the U.S. I’ll use 3S as an example:

Necro: PINOAB7 and Sugiyama.
Remy: Pierrot.
Hugo: Hayao and YSB.
Q: Kuroda.
Ryu: Ruu, Namijin, and JEY.
Ibuki: Aruka and Hossy.

All the above characters get little to no use in U.S. matches. I’m basing this off of the ranking battles that featured Amir, Pyrolee, Sex-taro and the like. So, while top-tier characters still dominate usage rates, Japanese players tend to stray from that every now and then.

I know every game has a top/mid/low tier system, but when it gets to the point that the tiers start effecting who you can play and cant play thats when the game becomes trash. I mean even though 3s has 19 characters you could literally just shrink it down to like 2 or 4 at the most. Top tier whoring doesnt encourage variety and can make a game become stale really quick, i mean its kind of odd that the early SF3 games are more balanced then 3s…kind of weird how that happened.

I’m sorry for going off topic, but you could not have been farther from the truth. Characters who weren’t god tier in the other SF3 games got shut down just as hard, if not harder.

Akuma Ibuki Sean were undisputed god tier and everyone was under them. There’s a reason no one plays the game anymore and that’s because it’s fucking broken beyond balance issues.

I’m sticking with Iori.

I’ve used him in ever SNK game he’s available in, despite his tiering and I don’t plan to change that tradition.
