“Samurai Showdown Tenka is good in itself but it utterly fails as a Samurai Showdown game” - some guy from the Heavenly Spirits forum

Discuss

I don’t see how it fails as an SS game. Though, I’m not a hardcore Samsho guy anyway.

i think the big beef is the fact that you don’t die in like two or three fierce slashes like you used to in the old days of SS… maybe? i don’t know i used to play SS2 and SS4 alot back in the days and SST didn’t feel the same at all… but i got used to the changes and in all honesty i think its better than those games… well SS2 is still pretty dope but its light years better than 4… i’ve only just recently got into SSVSP and that game is fuckin sick… to me its another ST… its extremely fast paced and demands quick reaction skills to avoid dying in two moves… but its not better than SST as so many of the guys at Heavenly Spirits believe…

to me it kinda goes to the old argument of 3s>ST or vice versa… to me they are both great games just different ways of approaching the 2D fighting game genre…

Not everyone in Heavenly Spirits hates Tenka. One thing that is a factor- a lot of them play online, and the online comp is better then the offline comp.

Hopefully Sen brings in a good new system, the Tenka system killed any future sequels really. They did put everything in there.

Yeah because Chun is the only character in the game with a single powerful combo off of a hit-confirmed normal. Seriously, you’re the biggest scrub I’ve ever seen on here if you think that’s all you need to know to play her at high levels.

You’re missing the point. If people are playing 3S and other games that you claim to have horrible balance problems, then why would they be turned off by a game that has a similar issue (top tiers are good and have advantages but are far from unbeatable)? And I’d also like to know what magical game DOESN’T have this problem? Don’t even bother saying VF5 since it’s been acknowledged that Shun was a problem in version B.

BTW, there have been vids like that posted already.

On topic: I seriously don’t see the problem people have with Tenka as an SS game.

tenka looks cool its just i didn’t understand it when i played it plus where is the blood

Any tips on team formation in KOFXI?

I’m going to be playing Kula/Ash/Iori

Dude just pick Gato,Kula and Oswald…thats the only team to play if your expecting to see a win anytime soon.

The lack of blood is story-related. It’s set during a certain Japanese festival time, so bloodshed is not permitted. It’s okay though, since the gameplay is the important thing here.

SH: Don’t listen to the people who lose hope and tell you to pick top, at first just play for fun, then learn how the system works. Then formulate a team.

Personally, the team you have is all full of decent batteries. Iori is not too good due to the game’s engine, Oswald is more or less a way better version of him in this game. It’s more the new game engine than Iori, though.

If you put Kula as leader, she’s really good, and the other two can just be played to get her meter.

You could also have Ash as leader, you’ll have to learn his corner loop from his LDM though. Otherwise Ash is a bit straightforward.

I’ve been in competitive gaming for awhile. I know not to listen to douche bags like him.

Thanks for the info. Glad it’s just the system that nerfed Iori and not his actually basics/specials.

I thought about playing Kula/Ash/Oswald, but I’d be way to tempted to do his banned combo over and over.

I’m retardedly new at KOFXI though, wtf is LDM?

Leader Desperation Move.

It’s a super move that can only be done by a character when they are a leader of the team and costs 2 super meters to use. LDMs also have the added property of being able to be “Dream-Cancelled”. Dream Cancels allow you cancel certain DMs into LDMs at the cost of one skill stock.

Oh shit.

I’ll have to learn those corner loops then for sure.

Thanks again for the info. :wgrin:

well i would say sst is a great game first of all. second, it does feel like a samsho game. third, it does NOT feel like a samurai game.

when i played the first ss, what got me into it was the music and the atmosphere. it was hella samurai-ish. the second was even more so and had better play mechanics. 4… not so much but it was fun nonetheless. 5sp is just right for me since it keeps that samurai atmosphere and the idea that swords really hurt your life bar! tenka has great game play and flexibility in fighting styles but it definitely lost that samurai flavor. my 2 cents

Is this oswald combo really that bad that it needs to be banned, anyone know where I can find it.

he has no specific combo thats banned, just an unblockable bug on an incoming opponent (works when opponent is reset, or is waking up too but only when the opponent is coming in it is banned).

I have no clue where to jump in on this current topic with my week long work departure, so I’ll just sit back and watch the banter.

I’ll give some input though: I’ll admit I was turned off at first to KoF XI due to the same big three being in at least every team during tournaments. But the same could be said to 3s, ST, CvS2, etc.

It happens in fighting games, but it’s not like they will be dominate forever. People always find ways around stuff, besides it’s not like every character in here is horrible. I’ve been planning to take a Terry/Ryo/Ash team to a tournament once I get used to the game.

Nice trolling there.
