I’ve been messing with XI today, got a new team. Shen, Vanessa (L), and Mary. Thoughts? I made a qs combo but it just barely misses getting a stun, but does like 75% any ways lol. Wha chall think?:bluu:
Unless you REALLY like Mary, I wouldn’t use her. XI Mary is not good. Granted she’s not nearly as abominable as she was in 2003…
Anyway, it seems your team needs a battery…because Shen and Leader Vanessa both thrive on meter consumption.
I would suggest switching Mary for Ash, Eiji, Ralf, Duck, or Maxima.
Your set-up should be (Battery)/Shen/Vanessa.
If you want to utilize Vanessa’s infinite, use Ryo or Kensou on your team to set it up the easiest.
I can always count on you for a quick, knowledgeable answer.:tup: I just started liking Mary thanks to MIRA, so I didn’t know she wasn’t good.:rolleyes: I played Eiji when I first played XI because I was shocked that he was even in it, but stopped for some reason. I’ll try him out tho. Is there a faster way to build up your skill gauge, cuz Shen-Vanessa qs combos are badass.

is doing short hop D, C, f+a, special move/DM fun??? in every game since 97??? except for Regulation a of course.
For the record, MI Ra Mary is based off RB2 Mary, and IMHO RB2 Mary would be…Mid at best? Her P. Power is sorta like activating MAX mode in KoF 2002 (combo–>MAX active–>combo), and if you know how to use her moves well she can cause some serious damage.
Now I’ve got a question that’s been on my mind for a while; how good was King in KoF, and how the heck did ppl manage to play with her?
XI was the FIRST KoF that I ever bothered using her, mainly cuz I can do damage with her combos (J. D–>St. D (2 hits)–>DF+D–>B, D, DB+D–>Super)
King is D (low) tier in KOFXI.
In 98 she was pretty bad too.
She was basically top of the low tier totem pole.
As for anything else she was in…I don’t have a clue.

I don’t think she’s that bad in '98 (or XI for that matter). She’s more about Venom Strikes and pokes and doesn’t have ooh combos outside of the corner, but she is alright.
I don’t know where she is low tier other than CvS2. I am sure she is top tier in CvS1, and iirc KOF '99.
Mary in '97 is awesome.
