KGO isn’t “broken” but it sure as hell is not fun to fight against. I think that’s a more feasible reason for people not wanting to play stuff like XI. Broken shit isn’t really the cutoff and it never has been, because the old games were broken too and the old school players know it. It’s just that those games happened to be a whole lot of fun too.
This is a common trend even today. Look at GGAC. BROKEN. Tons of broken shit in that game. Characters killing you instantly off of simple mistakes all over the place. But it’s fun as fuck and there’s not just ONE broken thing running the whole game.
Now XI, Kula and Gato run the show. It’s not just the characters alone. On their own, they are extremely good, but they aren’t unbeatable. But when you put them on the same team, it becomes extremely difficult to deal with them. Then you stick a good third character in there (doesn’t have to be Oswald, but he is a popular choice), you have the basic formula for playing XI at higher levels. This is what turns people off from the game, because if you’re not playing at the very least Kula/Gato/somebody, then you aren’t really competitive. The game is run by one thing. People don’t like that.
You don’t need Kula/Gato/x…actually all you need is Gato/x/x.

In the first Round, Daimon got forced into the corner, guessed wrong only twice, dizzy, KO.
And that’s with no meter. XI Gato needs a bunch of meter and stocks just to even be as threatening as 98 Iori w.o meter.
You are right however, Blake. People will play what they have fun with whether it’s broken or not. Balance is ultimately irrelevant if people enjoy the game…
The Kula/Gato team is even more potent than Gato alone because of the stupid QS potential you get. The characters just feed off of each other ridiculously. Plus Kula is a leader without having to actually pick her as one thanks to her MAX Diamond Edge, so you can still pick Leader Gato (best character in the game).
Seriously, when you are able to pick three characters, why would you not pick the two best characters in the game on the same team? Especially when they work together like that.
ya i love how some people post vids and are like WOW THIS GUY IS SO GOOD when really the other person is just terrible… i would love to just do jump in C combos and fireballs on people all day in KOF lol
P1 didn’t guess wrong, he just let that Iori run rings around him (you play Daimon and you let a opp jump in??).
Granted, Iori is tops, but that match is a bad example of why. That 2nd player could’ve just as easily triple perfected P1 with EX Andy…
Just tried it to do it, seems like it’s still possible but I find it difficult. The cancel window of hcf+P is quite tight (was it like that in 2k2? I don;t have a copy with me to test).

About the Vanessa combo- Yes it existsbut you can simplify it MANY WAYS…there are too many ways to simplify the combo to maybe a ONE SUPER DEATH COMBO…serious…

EDIT- Why does Geese’s max special suck ass? Does it do something else that I don’t know about or does it just suck?
EDIT#2- Can someone help me with the timing of cancelling the 5th punch? Like a visual or audio cue. The timing seems really tight to me compared to other games.
