Asura's Wrath: Japanese God of War

That’s one of the best and most constructive ideas I’ve read on SRK:tup: Alan Wake had a very similar approach.

Just read IGN’s review lol @ 6 hour game with 70% cutscene GTFO. It’s so fucking disingenuous it’s just too sad to be funny, the marketing campaign lead us to believe you run around killing shit in the vein of games like DMC, Bayonetta, GOW, or whatever and instead CC2 trolled the fuck out of us all giving us a game that is only 30% game play.

I fucking loved Heavy Rain (David Cage said he would barely call it a game in the traditional sense) but at least you knew what you were getting. It was all QTE’s and tried to completely fuse film and games to create a new experience and whether you liked it or not no one who paid any attention to it was surprised at the final product. The marketing campaign never once even tried to hide the fact that it had lots of QTE’s and cut scenes but that’s exactly what it seems AW has done CC2 probably hoped it could fool enough people into buying it thinking it’s a japanese GOW and making enough to at least break even before word of mouth spread to scare off future sales.

…That being said the supposed uniqueness of AW’s approach and strength of it’s story and art style does interest me enough to either watch it on youtube in it’s entirety someday or buy it on amazon when it drops to $15.

Ya know, if it wasn’t for the janky ass way CC2 promoted this I’d probably be hype for it despite it being mainly QTEs, I find em fun but ugh hyping it up as this awesome action game than it not being that sucks. Gonna wait for a price drop.

Put this nigga in Marvel though.

This shit is dope! Ive watched episodes 1-6 now and I like it. I feel like a bad guy watching this shit and not paying for it. When it hits 20 bucks I’ll get it.

^pfft, I would definitely buy this on DVD if they wanted to Shenmue The Movie it, have watched all the way up to episode 12, awesome stuff

Yeah, I saw a playthrough but no way I’m paying money for this. All the boss fights look like a letdown. Yasha’s style is pretty cool though. Asura needs to be in a FG but I doubt anyone at Capcom can do him justice.

I must profess to not understanding the whole “id rather watch a movie than play an interactive movie”, but I can understand people not wanting to pay 60 bucks for a game that’s mostly cutscene (like any of the MGS games).

Either way, I still am getting this (btw, gamestop didnt have it yet :frowning: )

Just got my Asura’s Wrath action figure in my happy meal. HYPE!

Tuesday breh.

If Capcom and CC2 just released episodes of this game they would only be contributing to the bullshit of DLC and such. They should’ve just released this game at 40 bucks. Would’ve taken the sting out of this game not really having much gameplay.

since no one is spending cash on this, my question is, does trade-in credit count?

I reserved this game a month ago for $5 and got over $60 in credit.

I’m still thinking about getting this for 2 reasons, I have nothing new to play so I’m bored, and 2nd easy trophies.

I plan on trading the game in for DMC-HD. paying only half price on a new game when you’d pay full price is always a better idea, IMO.

If that’s how you feel about the game, why not just rent it at Redbox, blow through it, and save yourself a lot of money?

Thats what i’m doing. I did the same thing for X-men Destiny. Easy ass Platinum trophy by the way.
But a HUGE middle finger to that True ending.

Realizing how this game plays reminds of Sewer Shark.

I saw that. Not enough for my interest though.

Watched the play through on youtube. Have some thoughts, but i’ll put spoiler tags for them

Gameplay: Why I won’t get it until it at least goes on sale, seems lacking. But I appreciate the risk they took with that so i’m not vocal against it’s just not my thing. Does anyone else wonder why some of the features they had in that first? trailer didn’t make it? For example him throwing his enemies, seemingly boosted by damage. Wielding a stone pillar and an enemies sword. I wish some of these things had stayed in development. In fact that running through the spears scene could have been fit anywhere, just replace augus with something else. Those gameplay scenes got me interested and its a shame none of it was followed up on.

Story: I really liked it, i liked the action, the character development, the interplay between Yasha and Asura etc.But I have one problem: the lack of boss fights for Olga, Karlow and Sergei. They were built up ahead of the game as these great gods, something continued in the actual game. They role call through them all and i get excited for the prospects to come. When Wyzen dies they comment on how he was weaker than them all, and i start thinking about what they could do. I knew it might not live up to the scale of wyzen, but I can buy them being stronger because asura was smaller and he blew him up.

But then they do nothing but command others, and they really don’t live up to the hype. Karlow was okay, because they focus was on his planning, but they could have easily fit a boss fight for when asura tackled his hologram on the ship. Change the hologram to a robotic duplicate with some magic like science contraptions, there you go. He breaks it finds out its a robot continue like it normally does. Honestly they could have easily fit in fights for olga and sergei in the yasha chapters, and if not give them an actual cutscene to show them kill some mooks to convey the fact they were not all hype. They actually did it for sergei but it was a storyboard so you didn’t see anything happen, which would have been nice. Am I the only one bugged by this?

That said I enjoyed it. I’m getting the impression that the ryu dlc is part of those challenges hinted at in the true ending. [/details]

Played the demo. It’s basically just like playing one giant cutscene with mostly QTEs. If the entire game is like that then it’s definitely not a buy. The over top action is crazy nice however. I’ll just watch a playthrough of it on You Tube.

How is that contributing to the ‘bullshit’ of DLC? The game is already broken up into perfect episodes already. You’d have to not look at Asura’s Wrath as a game anymore and instead think of it as an interactive OVA with new ‘episode’ each month. If each episode cost $5 and there are a total of 12 episodes that would make the entire game/show $60 (or even create a Season Pass for $50). DLC is not bullshit. How it’s packaged and given to customers can be bullshit but DLC itself is not.

I actually think that lowering the price of Asura’s Wrath (retail) could devalue the product. People would see the cheaper shelf price as warning that it might not be too good. Releasing a game, especially one with production values as high as Asura’s Wrath, at a lower price point could hurt it. When it comes to the sting of the lack of depth in Asura’s Wrath it Capcom would have just done their job right as a publisher and presented it as a highly interactive movie we wouldn’t feel as cheated about the product.

But I honestly think the downloadable episodes would work. Dead Rising Case Zero is $5 and it sold like gangbusters and that only took like an hour or so to beat. A

My bad on that DLC comment…just shootin from the hip on that. Didn’t the new Rayman game ship at a lower price? That game sold pretty well.

lol no it shipped at $60 and it nose dived after that. Between great reviews, price drops all over the place, and word of mouth the game picked up steam. I think it would have done better at $60 had it not been released during the BUSIEST TIME OF THE YEAR. But I get why publishers ship certain things at suicidal times. Gotta pay those bills even if it might be a gamble.
