Assistance! M.O.D.O.K Assist and Assist Support Thread

There is that, and you already have a horizontal assist. So Hidden Missiles is usually better and Plasma Beam would be kind of redundant anyways.

I think it may be more important for MODOK than anyone else.

It’s been almost a month and I still don’t have a team for MODOK.

I tried strange and dormmamu with modok…but i honestly believe that both characters have some incredibly bad match-ups and frankly suck on point. I use to run modok doom sentinel and could zone my ass off. however against dormmammu, deadpool, ghost rider with strider vajira assists that team could not zone very well and gettin in was hard for all the characters without assists. Espically if dormammu had meter. the team was also very slow overall, so magneto with drones was a bit hard to deal with it. Then to boot i had two instant overhead characters on my team(the sentinel and modok have big blocking hitboxs during crouch.)

so now im running ghost rider/modok/doom…modok with hidden missles are definitley the way to go and have always been. hidden missles also works great for ghost rider. i have ghost rider on his otg assists for lockdown and i have combos that sit the person right into having to block it for a free mix-up for both characters. I been having a much easier time with this team then before. If it doesnt work out i may go to thor then probabdly ryu.

But im always sure that modok+doom missles are forever. modok covers missles so well and there are very easy jamming bomb combos in the corner that can be done with missles assists.

Dormammu definitely doesn’t suck on point. He’s up there with the best in the game on point.

And yes, Hidden Missiles are the way to go.

Final Ultimate Team

Modok (Barrier)/Nova (Aegis Reflector)/Doom (Plasma beam)

I run plasma beam for the easy OTG -> Doom Assist -> Battering ram to relaunch

Nova’s reflector stops people from jumping at me and is a bit more reliable to place when I’m moving around with modok. And it makes jamming bomb combos in the corner easy. And it looks flashy

Current jamming bomb combo

Air Dash :l: -> Cr.:l: -> st :m: -> cr. :h: -> :l: cube -> cr :h:-> :l: cube -> cr :h: -> Forward :h: -> Call Nova -> :l: ballon bomb -> Jamming bomb -> :m: blaster -> Reset

On bigger characters/rocket raccoon, just go straight for the jamming bomb. On medium you can fit 2 ballon bombs before you jam them.

Sounds very interesting but u haven’t covered the most important aspect. what color for the costumes?

I know I say this to everyone, but you’re really just gimping yourself if you use an assist other than Hidden Missiles.

On another note, the MODOK team I’m experimenting with is Akuma/MODOK/Doom.

Yes, really.

I think that Akuma is actually a really good point character who no one ever plays on point. With a beam assist from Psionic Blaster, he gets a good crossup with his teleport or Demon Flip. Of course, his assist is great for MODOK.

Modam is the only one that counts. Everyone else is filler.

I stopped using hidden missiles a few months back because I was careless with calling him. I’ll give him another go, since I’ve finally mastered his OTG -> Airdash shenanigans online.

Em: Only problem with psionic blaster as your crossup beam assist is that a lot of the cast can duck it reducing the effectiveness on some characters. otherwise it sounds like it could work well. Can akuma follow up a crossup blaster easily since it has a lot of pushback?

Not a big fan of DOOM, probably because people that I play are good at avoiding hidden missiles almost entirely or blowing him up.
My MODOK almost never zones but it’s a dangerous team because I risk a lot as it’s rushdown oriented.

MODOK/CAP/SKRULL: I just basically use MODOK to rush down, Cap to toss out that shield and Skrulls Tenderizer works wonders for keeping people out of the air and giving me a brain dead hit confirm. The assists give me a pretty sexy 9 cube setup that isn’t too hard. It’s important to me because I like to save my meter for CAP blowing through things or Skrull. (I suck with Skrull he’s basically my level 3 crutch most of the time. Smashy, smashy.) Frankly I believe CAP allows MODOK to do what he wants at midrange.

People tend to forget the shield does come back lol, if you’re not a very mobile MODOK tho, stay away from the fray. It took me a while to keep it movin.

U mentioned this 9 cube combo before. was wondering if u could provide the notation. i use cap/modok/doom and am interested in having cap contribute Korea to my modok play

Vajra for MODOK is underrrated as helll.

-Tracks better than Hidden Missiles.

  • Hard knockdown…which MODOK loves.
  • Super useful combo extender
  • MODOK’s runaway game becomes more annoying because he can push people down with Strider.
    -MODOK’s EX barrier+vajira makes it impossible to escape without buffering a super.

Hello again Modok forums, I just picked up UMVC3 this weekend and I’m trying to get back into things. I need help picking a new anchor for my modok/deadpool/??? team. RIP Iron Man. I tried to make him work but his hi-low mixup game no longer exists.

So here’s what I’m looking to replace with IM:
-Good enough assist that locks the opponent down and doesn’t knock back for easier comboability for Modok rushdown. Doesn’t necessarily have to be a beam just something that locks down and has durability.
-Decent health points (at least above 850k)
-Mobility that equals IM
-Good comeback factor with x-factor/ or at least easy combos with xfactor or xfactor combo extensions

Any rushdown Modok user input would be greatly appreciated.

What I’m messing around with now:

]Dante (weasel shot) - decent lockdown and relatively safe. Good x-factor comebacks. Good synergy with deadpool and high/low mixups for both. New combo’s are hard though XD
[]G-Rider(Eat chain) - Fast and easy to confirm. Great assist when flying high above with modok, use the assist and just J.S when opponent is wall bounced for easy combo.

]Ryu(tatsu/fireball) - Just because I’ve always liked playing ryu. Has good health and great dhc potential for whole team. Chris-g inspired.
[*]Doom(rocks) - good lockdown but from MVC3 the rocks didn’t really have good durability. Don’t know if it’s changed in UMVC3. Plus, low-mid tiers are kinda my thing.

Anywho, what do you guys think?

I like doom with modok. whether it be rocks, missiles or beam, i feel that all three assists greatly improve modok’s damage output in a variety of ways.

Anyone familiar with using MODOK with captain America? For me, the three characters that I enjoy playing are Captain America, MODOK and Doctor Doom.
since ultimate has come out, I’ve been trying to run Cap (ss)/MODOK (barrier)/Doom (missiles).

Its been fairing pretty well but I dont know how much synergy it really has. Sure cap and doom have great synergy but MODOK isn’t that DHC compatible from Cap…

I guess the most obvious option would be to play MODOK on point but it seems as if I lose his greatest assets, which are his assist and the ability to TAC into him and have a shitload of Levels of Understanding ready to use. I’m contemplating just dropping Captain America and replacing him, and just having another team focused around Cap, but if i drop him, who do I fill the slot with?
My options right now are Modok/Doom/one of the below:

  1. Haggar - awesome defensive assist, great damage and meter building on point, doesn’t help MOdok get in, but could make me focus 100% on zoning with modok and only going for combos when i open people up…
  2. Firebrand - drags opponent all the way to the corner. Beginning to think that he’s better as anchor though? useless assists?
  3. Frankwest - been playing him lately, has shopping cart assist, but dont think he’s optimal in anyway for a team with modok
  4. Hulk - get off me assist, crazy damage,
  5. Nova - ground bounce assist. crazy damage
  6. Arthur - dagger assist, level 3 x factor arthur
    I refuse to use sentinel, his play style does not attract me. that said, drones are amazing for doom and modok.

@Batmanuel: I think you should go with Ryu, since that’s the character you said you liked to play with. I find I do better with characters I like to use, so maybe the same is true for you.

@Kensanity: The same applies to you too, Ken. I’d say stick with Cap if that’s who you like. Hell, you might discover that Cap has some really good technology with MODOK. If not, then you got some motivation to not screw things up :rofl:.

thanks for the pep talk! I’m going to just stick with it and make it work. I mean I know this square block might not fit in this circle hole, but if i keep working at it maybe I can make that hole a bigger square hole…

You know Ken, your problems with Cap to MODOK just seems that Cap is too good to bother using MODOK as a partner lol!
Cap can DHC to MODOK, but when you’re setup does as much damage or more. Now IMO MODOK should always relaunch himself.
That’s just a bit of practice. Relatively mad easy now too, especially if I can do it online.

Now I run MODOK point, Cap second, and Skrull last. In this configuration the team has mad holes because I can’t really pressure with the
team outside of midscreen and it’s still kind of weak. I’ll call cap assist, dash forward, and block because people tend to forget the shield comes back.
Then continue to pressure or combo if it hits. In the corner I can cause mad option selects with tenderizer plus shield if I push them that far. The goal
in the teams first configuration is to power up MODOK in the corner. The trick is getting blown up by beams/beaten by runaway because I have no safe approaches. My saving grace however is cap HSS dhc if I feel I need to bait some ish to get MODOK out of there. (Oops I missed killer illumination…oh my, please attack me!) After that I either kill the point (Full power combo or 7 cubes DHC to cap HSS kills a lot of characters) or I swap MODOK out for my anchor. I LOVE MODOK anchor with Max Power on deck.

The mop up formation is Skrull on point with the assists backing which is pretty damn strong. Meteor smash hell with projectiles is wickedly hard to block. If meteor smash crosses up they have to block the opposite way but if the projectile hits first they have to first block the other way, if it hits well you know the rest. Cap shield assist and MODOK allow for the some safe Skrull grab attempts plus cross up charged air fists. HSS also allows me to whiff inferno whenever I want to really. Now the DHC from Skrull is kind of weak for this team BUT, Skrull is welcomed to die honestly. I never bank on Cap being anchor. I try to make my last hoorah-

MODOK anchor has some nasty XF shit but his most important role is to LAME OUT other XF characters. Also on reaction pop xfactor and kill
the bastard with xtreme prejudice with MAX POWER! Chances are due to my gameplan I’ll likely only have one chance at any of this because Skrull eats
all meter, that’s why MAX POWER is so important to my clutch game, one meter, one defining moment.

yeah it seems to me that captain america can just do so much on his own that modok doesn’t really complement his gameplay. like Cap/Spencer/Doom seem to have much better synergy. That said, I just don’t know who to pair with MODOK/Doom… even in the corner i could just do self relaunches or using another character can help me switch to beam instead of missiles in order to get easier midscreen relaunches… the only question is who to use to compliment both modok and doom… sentinel seems like the most obvious choice but if modok and doom die, i’m not the best sentinel anchor player out there…
