It’s not that they weren’t good, it’s just that they felt weird to me. Maybe I just don’t want to play anyone other than MODOK/Sentinel.
Arthur on anchor perhaps?

I feel you. I hate playing Sentinel for the most part, but I dislike playing with Doom as well. Even tho my team was pretty stable, I just couldn’t stand how slow and boring my matches were getting, so I decided to try a more aggresive team for Modok.
Right now I’m running Modok (beam), Felicia (low hit assist) and Ammy (Cold Star), it’s a weird team for Modok but I’m quite pleased with the results, I can zone and lock with the cold star assist, I can combo jamming bombs and go for easy resets, I can go for Modok’s hard-to-block setup using C.M and if the opponent manages to chicken block, Felicia allows me to go for a second setup pretty fast.
I’m getting used to this team, specially with Felicia since I lack experience with her, however my MODOK is pretty good and Amaterasu is one of my best characters. I’m sure there’s some good synergy over there, just need get used to it.
I can definitely see Modok working well with Ammy all around. Felicia seems interesting to pair with him as well for unlbockables, but do they DHC well together?
MODOK can DHC into most anyone pretty well from HBR, as you can choose where you end it. Do you want the enemy above you or in front of you? Close to you or farther away?
They DHC really well.
After spending the last few days training with Felicia, my team has improved a LOT.
Seriously, the synergy between them is just amazing. My team isn’t about really long combos because I’d rather finish with Jamming bomb and rush again with an unblockable, I try to get as many levels of understanding as possible to keep Modok safe without the need of assists.
I use puddle and cubes for mid-screen control, When the enemy is in the corner, I place a wall and a M. cube above them to lock them in place and be able to set the unblockable with Felicia’s assist, which means a dead enemy.
I’m loving this team and I may use it as my secondary team for EVO 2012 (main team is Dorm, Firebrand, Amaterasu).
What do you guys think of a MODOK/super skrull/nova in that order tho I’m still not sure if nova should be 2nd or last. What assists should I use and any tips if anyone has a team similar. Also I’m new to MODOK so a brief explanation on what I’m supposed to do with him would help.
Well, Skrull should be last, that’s for sure. Nova’s assist should be the one that hits high, that will allow you to set easy unblockables.
A good starting point for Modok is trying to play keep-away with cubes, bombs, walls and psionic blasts to get familiar enough with his skills. After that, hit the training room to learn some good combos and try to get at least 7 cubes in a single combo (Mission 10 is a good starting point for this), practice TAC follow-ups.
Learn practical stuff for real matches, last thing you should be learning are the long-ass combos which take some time to learn.
I would almost say that the corner cube combos while really good aren’t neccesary with modoks combo options. Learn a solid b&b that allows you to keep momentum or mixup after you land it. With that team you can comb into jamming bomb for example and reset easily
Corner combos with cubes are a good option if he learns how to carry the enemies to the corner. Remember he can put a wall or something and call Nova’s assist for an unblockable, just saying.
Cube combos are not necessary true unless you’ve got a setup to use MODOK as a Canon character or plan on pressing your luck with the Xfactor level 3 MODOK with a DEATH beam. If you want cubes I’d say that you might as well put him 2nd or 3rd and roll the dice with one of the easy TAC’s.
I’m too inconsistent with Viper, so I think I might be dropping her. I was thinking of use Magneto… but what order should I use? Right now, I’m thinking dok/mags/doom, but that doesn’t give the best DHC options. Maybe dok/doom/mags would be better? Or mags/dok/doom…
I would go with MODOK/Doom or Mags/MODOK for TAC tricks. Of those two, I would probably run MODOK/Doom so modok is less of a liability to welcome mixups and you have the strongest anchor out of the three in magneto. With that team, any combination would work really as long as MODOK was not the last character. Personally, I prefer MODOK on point even though he has his crazy TAC combos because his pre-fight flight is such a huge advantage compared to other positions since it guarantees that you start the round in a good position to start putting stuff on the screen.
Thanks, I’m rolling doom/dok/mags (so I can choose between mags/dok/doom and dok/doom/mags, lol). I definitely prefer dok on point, as a general rule. I really have to learn Doom’s fancy TAC’s though…
Dawg dats my team since dropping dante sent. I like your viper team nvr thought burn kick assists works. Also I’m thinking of putting doom 2nd since I’m also wanting to do that doom swag tac. I can only do the down version for now… sometimes. Problem is that I don’t like doom anchor. I been facing alot of keep away/ rushdown anchors like idk freaking Hawkeye. Its just a horrible match up. But then again I use hyper grav assists and putting mag last Idk bout that.
Doom + mag seems like a really good combo in case dok dies. I’m guessing the reason why your not consistent with viper is bc doom missiles screw things up? Well if you know your doom missiles timing, then you can hyper grav with mag. Its much easier to convert i guess than viper.
Generally I put dok/mag/doom. if you don’t want to do hbr loops then dhc to tempest then to sphere flames thats like 1mill bnb. Like dem Nos combos you seen there’s that sneregy from either point dok or mag.
Also, its great since you don’t need the doom missiles to do jamming bomb set ups, which means you can use the missiles to get in. If your using hyper grav, then what I do is the dok rom (the j.m cr. H) and end with cr. L, cr. M, cube, launch, magic air series, spike, ground bounce dash back, forward-H + hyper grav, cancel to jamming bomb. Need the corner though. Or if you just missed the cr. L, cr. M, cube then just Slime, ground bounce, cube, hyper grav, forward H, jamming bomb. it actually works even when you call the assists + forward H but there is no corner advantage. I rather do the first combo just because its easier even though I get no extra cubes. Looks funky though.
How well does vergil work with modok? His rapid slash is good for spacing and is great for combo extensions.
Yeah, Doom isn’t the best anchor, but he’s pretty good. I’ve had him on anchor for nearly forever. XF3 guard cancel into level 3 is the best. The main reason why I’m not so consistent with Viper is just because it takes a ridiculous amount of work to apply pressure correctly and get in. Rapid seismos, tridashing like crazy, burn kick feints, charging optic blast, poking with thunder knuckles, etc, are a lot of her options you have to work with constantly. You have to be pressing buttons all the time, and you have to know what buttons you should be pressing really quickly. Some days, that’s a little too much for me, since I haven’t played Viper enough yet to make it all just come naturally. Also, dok DHC into Viper is terribly unsafe… I really should have Viper as point.
And solid combos! I’ll keep some of that stuff in mind.
I don’t think viper tridashes that much. I know their effective and can cross up but I use her dash down when I get in with burn kick feints. I think her ground game is one of the most important since she has access to most of her tools like focus, tk feints, ex, etc. Pressing buttons all the time sounds like modok to me. I think shes better with a good lock down and combo extender wall to wall/ get in there assists.
Honestly, even though I have over 500 games or so online with Viper, I’m still figuring out how to use the character. And since the only assist I have that can lock down is missiles, you do have to play pretty frantically to get anywhere.
Is Amaterasu good for MODOK? Maybe Cold Star lets him do some of his high/low mixups or even combo into Jamming Bomb, etc.?
I haven’t played Ammy much, so I don’t know if anything worthwhile would work with Cold Star combo-wise, but you can do a lot of nasty things with a lockdown assist like that. You have the normal high/low/throw shenangians, but you can also go for stuff like a cross-up j.:s: (if they aren’t in the corner), or a self-unblockable with slime flight canceled into a high. There are probably some dirty incoming setups with it, especially with Ammy’s slow down super.
DHCs between the two aren’t too bad either. After Okami Shuffle in the corner, DHC into HPB and you can follow up with an assist call and cr. into :l: blaster, into wall bounce, groundbouce, etc. I’m not sure about how well they would work midscreen though.
