The anti gun rhetoric has been older than NRA or fox news. Gun control wasn’t an issue even after the whisky rebillion, gun control wasn’t an issue even when you had whites waging attacks on southern industry or them taking over military bases. It wasn’t an issue when Indians where buying guns and killing whites to. It wasn’t an issue until blacks, or rather there’s a group of people that can’t have them so lets ban them or make them impossible to get.
In the 1920’'s, government changed it’s rhetoric and framed it as a criminal issue rather than a black man issue. Even when it passed extremely restrictive laws, laws that only affected law abiding citizens ( and a law that would have been in violation of the 4th amendment, no different that the current marijuana laws today, crime didn’t go down, and it didn’t stop the mob from growing in power. they still challenged the government, they still openly killed government officials, and they still did whatever the fuck is it they wanted becasue gun regulation only affects those who care enough to be law abiding citizens.
Gun control became an issue when blacks said, we have the right to buy these things, defend our community with them, and walk around with them. Suddenly laws had to be passed to keep “bad” people from having them. So much that Regan passed restrictive laws in California because niggers can’t have guns, that’s bad! The federal assault weapon ban passed in the late 80’s didn’t do shit to curb gang violence and it didn’t make them harder to get. The Mexican cartels still grew in power and influence under this time reaching their apex as one single entity, even thought the main sup[plier of guns to the country had draconian restrictions. Why, because criminals don’t give a shit about the damn law.
Now the rhetoric has changed, and now it’s framed as, you can’t let crazy people have them!!! Look at this pandemic of people killing everybody, fuck the NRA, and we are a civilized socitey so lets depend on police to defend us after the fact. More sensationalist bullshit that never talks about thegood that hand guns do. If my dad didn’t own a damn handgun, my mom would have been raped in her own damn home, with he kid in the other room sleeping. But of course, what level headed american needs a tool designed to kill people, certianly not for defense, but to kill people.
the left has been pushing the outright banning of firarms under the pretense of whatever narrative they find most fitting. No diffrent than the current trend from the right that want’s to keep them around under the pretense you are going to be killed.
But all arguments aside, who are you, and who is anybody, or any group of people to tell me what I can or can’t use to legally defend myself in my home when guns have a history of doing more good for the people of america on a individual basis than bad. If you cannot come up with a philosophical argument other than, people die and they are things designed to kill only, then you have an intellectual dishonest argument, and one that states that it’s ok that more people will die or get hurt as a result of a small minority doing really stupid things, becasue we have to pretect this other very small minority that dies of the results of an even smaller minority doing stupid shit.
so the idea that this “gun-based” society is based on some constant narrative of fear, is absolute bullshit, because it’s the direct backlash and respect to the ridiculous, morally bankrupt, dishonest, ignorant, naive argument being pushed by people like you who happen to buy into the bullshit arguments of people like Fienstien.

lower what? you won’t lower anything, and any study you provide is dumb becuase i can just utter finland and switzerland as countries that have lax firearm laws and big owenrship, and Mexico and Brazil that have a huge criminal element who still own massive aresenals of real military equipment despite having some of the strictist firearm regulations on the planet. And as a result, many people suffer becuase they can’t defend themselves, and to do so they have to break the law.

No rational person who owns firearms goes around talking about their collection to starngers, or gloats about how many guns they have outside of their hunting, firering range, personal gun owner friends.
