Been saying this for years, and it wasn’t a rushed conclusion. I’ve had secular Arabs from Lebanon and Libya tell me themselves what it’s like living in a devout Muslim family and I draw parallels to my own upbringing. The average, fair-minded westerner takes the faceless Islamic representative groups’ corporate and robotic “collective outrage” in the face of these tragedies as a sufficient response, but these terrorists weren’t born in a vacuum, they are protected in a culture of silence- See no evil, hear no evil… There is a culture of acceptance that has to lie beneath the surface for these radicals to fester in their own misguided hatred virtually uninterrupted. Don’t confuse this with me saying that moderate Muslims blindly condone these actions or aid them, but I definitely get the sense that they understand where they are coming from in respect to their devotion. For every text that promotes peace, there’s one that allows violence and other archaic notions of justice- Jihad. Imagine being a westernized Muslim trying to out-argue a radical sympathizing relative on the interpretation of the Quran; a relative who lives and breathes its philosophy to the bone. Imagine the tinge of guilt one might feel when the radical shames their relative on loving the materialism and greed that the West promotes. They’re more than likely to back off and shut up, and ignore all the prevalent warning signs. This conversation on faith wouldn’t matter to someone whose cultural identity was already endemically soaked in their country of birth, under an Abrahamic religion that has been bastardized through years of scientific and social advancement. Most European Muslims are Arabs, and even when more or less assimilated, they’re still aware that they’re perceived differently on multiple fronts. A perfect breeding ground for an identity crisis.
Born into a fundamentalist Christian household I can attest that religious fervor is tacitly respected- even when it goes beyond the deep end. Quasi-Christian westerners have the luxury to laugh at the idea that Ben Carson believes the Israelites built the pyramids, or they sincerely believe that gay marriage is somehow compatible with Biblical scripture- to fit their 21st century feel good progressive ideology, but for Muslims it doesn’t work like this. Westerners project their own concept of religiousness onto a group that shares a closer familial bond, where culture and religion are far more deeply rooted into their identity. The average church-on-Easter westerner could never understand this perspective, unless you’re dealing with hardcore sects from the Bible Belt. A moderate Muslim family isn’t the same as another moderate Christian or Jewish family. These rationalizations and predilections for spilling blood in response to Western modernity is proof enough.

I read an article a few weeks ago about moderate muslims, and this guy was going around trying to find out what a moderate muslim was, and a lot of people didnt even like the term, because they felt it denoted their devotion to their religion. Long story short, a moderate muslim is not the same as like an american moderate christian. I’ll have to find the article and link it, but many people have written on the topic.
Dont let liberal muslims writing on blogs or on cable news networks confuse you from reality. There are plenty of good arabic muslims, and muslims in general, but dont shrug your shoulders at me, and act like you dont know what the fuck is going on in your countries, in your religion, and in your culture.
Either arabic muslims suffer from the worst true case of its not us, its them, or somebodies fucking telling half truths. lol.

Like immediately join.
