This is Buk’s thread he can manage himself. I’m telling you this because its obvious that you don’t have the skill level to answer this question.

This is Buk’s thread he can manage himself. I’m telling you this because its obvious that you don’t have the skill level to answer this question.
It’s obvious that you don’t have any idea what skill level i’m at. And if i’m only reiterating what Buk posted himself posted earlier in the thread about meaty/wakeup games… what’s the harm?
And I answered the question… Meaties are useful, b/c in high level play, reversals are more risk than reward, and thus should not be done often.
I clearly don’t know what I’m talking about. :lame:
didn’t buk say others are welcome to chip in?
Buktooth, what do you think about the Dominanted101 articles?
I think people in this thread should take into account Buk is willing to not only make a helpful thread but that he’s also willing to keep it going…that in itself is a luxury here since not many people are willing to divulge info about CVS2 and can be easily taken away. Like myself, alot of others are enjoying this thread and the information that can be gained from it. I think its in everyones best interest that everybody stay calm so that this thread can continue without much drama being added to the pot.
On a different note, to anyone who can RC Lightning Leg with Chun Li, what is the best input for RC Senrestu Kyaku (Lightning Legs)that you can link Crouch Jab,Strong into?
Damm buktooth i did not knew u existed but when i heard of evo for the first time your name pop up and i feel sorry for you because of all the harrasments u get but u seem like a cool dude. No questions just a coment
Alright, this is a team question. I play P groove, and I can’t really decide on what characters should be my tournament team. Here’s a list.
Chun-li
Cammy
Vice
Ryu
Hibiki
Kyo
Of which, only Kyo has a guaranteed spot on my team. Any suggestions? I haven’t really gotten Chun-li to a point where she can punish whiff’s into super, yet alone combo into it. Maybe as a battery? Help. ;___;
Edit - Also, why isn’t Mai consider high mid tier? She has a good anti air, anti cross up, combo into bnb or super (cr short st short cr mp xx qcb+fierce or super). Plus she’s annoying. Am I missing something that makes her bad?
I would learn P-Rolento.
good players never posting is their own prerogative. it’s a lot of thankless work that just begets more thankless work.
being rude to weaker/new players isn’t cool for the most part though, unless the weaker/new player is being really obnoxious about something (“GIMME SOME IROI STRATSSS!?!?!”)
as for the negative critism, not to be a dick but aren’t you the harshest critic out there?
as far as good players’ behavior in public, all i have to say is that we’re people too. some good players are more receptive to talking strats than others obviously, for a variety of reasons. some people feed off the attention and/or props, some are too nice to turn people down, and some just really like to talk cvs2.
of course, there are people who aren’t always up to talk strats, for whatever reasons they might have. to use myself as an example, there are times where i’m just not in the mood to show random person #436278 how to RC elec. this is amplified even more if:
a) you are some random person talking to me like you’ve known me forever, and
b) i don’t even know your srk screenname
how would you react if you were taking a bus or something and some random fool goes up to you and goes “sup kang, i’m SSJDarkBattousai420! (…uncomfortable silence)”. or even better, just goes “hey kang, sup man how you been?”
as a lot of you can attest, most of the time i’m happy to help somebody out. sometimes i’ll even offer advice without being asked. to whoever out there i’ve given the cold shoulder or been a dick to, sorry i guess. but maybe you were annoying
in short, good players are people too. outside of the game, don’t expect any more from them that you would from any random chump. they don’t owe you anything
two people i used to play with a lot experimented with rc tiger knees for awhile against rc sonic booms, but they don’t ever use them now so i’m guessing that it wasnt good for whatever reason. don’t take my word for it though, try it for yourself
this is actually a huge part of why good people don’t post. there’s always gonna be people who are gonna try to make the process as painful for them as possible by calling them scrubs/stupid (especially if said good player posts something that contradicts something that the forum scrub posted earlier), accusing them of “spoonfeeding” (…on a strategy-based forum ), calling everybody who listens to them dickriders and/or nuthangers, arguing with said good player just for the sake of arguing, etc.
ooh ooh money match for $100?
really? i musta missed those. how much actual content was posted by said players though? i remember the “duc teaches mvc2 part deux” thread where he posted the first post, then never showed up again
anyway, the general skill level in mvc2 in america is wayyyyy higher than the level of cvs2. this means there are more players who know what they’re talking about, which means it’s more likely one or more of them is gonna post about it
haha i feel like this is a not-so-subtle stab at me, so i’ll just tell you what you want to hear:
i got ocved that game because i suck. i get ocved all the time.
but hey, somehow i managed to win the tournament without being sent to losers. for shame!
i’m pretty sure i covered this in the first few paragraphs of my iori guide. peep it on gamefaqs
he took em to the comboratory
in their head
…yea just watch the videos whenever they go up. i hear they fell for all of his CC set ups
there isn’t a single definitive “incident” that scared all the good players away. if you were to ask a good player why they don’t post on srk, they’ll most likely say “because srk people are retarded”. of course, they’re really only referring to the few bad eggs that ruin everything
adapt? sure. take less risks? well, kind of i guess. one common trait of all random players is that if you just keep your eyes open they’ll eventually kill themselves. this usually comes about in the form of “random” supers/dps/ccs/rolls in situations that are actually pretty predictable if you keep in mind that the player is random.
reversals are retarded easy to do in most modern games; even the most random mall scrub can mash out a reversal level 3 with a really high success rate.
as for when to use them… meaties are really buff in earlier street fighter games for two reasons: reversals were stupidly hard to pull off, and everybody mashes on throw in reversal situations. meaty low moves will counter failed reversal attempts and more importantly, people mashing on throw. they also led into big combos (which often dizzied), and set up stupidly hard to reverse tick throws if blocked.
fast forward to anything post alpha 2, and pretty much all those factors are gone. reversals are stupid easy to do, and nobody gets up mashing on throw anymore (except in 3s and ggxx, but that’s because everybody gets up at weird speeds in those games and normal moves are significantly slower than throws). for the most part you also lose the super beefy combos you got on a connected meaty, and the frame advantage given doesn’t offer a quasi-free throw if blocked. so basically, all the classic reasons to do a meaty move are null.
with that random tanget done with, nowadays unless the frame advantage given off the meaty move is insanely big and/or the combo afterwards is really buff, meaty moves are really only useful for guard crush strings imo. also imo, guard crush strings are only really useful in a3 with a few exceptions like k-geese and stuff.
if you absolutely can’t anti-air the low jump on reaction (even with some pre-emptive pumping of dp motions), then you’re going to have to:
a) not get into the situation to begin with
b) stick out pre-emptive attacks that would stuff low jumps early (sagat standing fierce, guile backfist, etc). these pose the danger of being whiffed/ducked under/rolled through, but if any of those happen your opponent isn’t low jumping right?
3) alpha counter
4) just block. if you’re awake, there’s hardly any low jump mix ups that are truly hard to block. hard to truly counter? sure. hard to block, nah. the only time people get caught by empty low jump into low short is if they were caught off guard by the low jump to begin with (or were trying to tech a throw, but in that case they weren’t blocking wrong). empty low jump into throw is another matter…
oh, and DON’T try to throw people who empty low jump. it’ll get you killed by empty jump into low move
funny after all this talk about those mean ol’ top players, this comes up. first off, his answer was totally valid. second, people can post whatever insight or comments they want. i even said near the beginning of the thread that any help answering questions was appreciated, as long as they answered it well.
seriously, how do we expect more and better people to post here with attitudes like this?
some of it is a little dated, some of it is a little biased (as much as i don’t like 3s, seth’s reasons for why it’s a bad game are pretty much straight up wrong for the most part), but most all of it is a good read. back in my competitive infancy i learned i good thing or two from those articles, and even now i still point people over to them (the “you can lead a scrub to water, but you can’t make em think” article in particular applies really well to this generation of SF players)
umm… i’m not exactly sure what you’re asking
remember, team/order/ratio suggestions are not being answered. read the first post again for the rules of the thread
mai doesn’t do enough damage, and her ground moves are all pretty lackluster except for her sweep and her low strong.
Oops. Sorry, didn’t notice that.
No question this time, Buk. Just a reply…
That’s the reputation I have with other players now? It’s definately a mistake on my part then. It’s a big reason why I’m more hesitant to post now as well. People who know me personally know I kid every now and then, but I never look down on any style of gameplay another person might use.
My motto (and what every other player’s motto should be) is that if it worked against you, then you’re a fool to criticize it until you can beat it yourself. Even when you’ve learned to deal with a particular tactic, player, or situation, it’s still in your best interest to keep the criticizing chit-chat to a minimum if you ever want the player to come back. You never know how a person might react to whatever you do say (if they perceive it as negative talk), and who knows, you might even make a friend by taking the high ground and always staying positive. If anything, I’m my own harshest critic, and if it sounds like I’m being a little too mean, arrogant, or whatever whenever I post a comment online then I’m sorry. That’s not the impression I’m trying to give off.
Some of the posts here in this forum though… Sorry, but I can’t help it when somebody posts something that has nothing to do with strategy or is some lame anime fan comment that 90% of the other players here could care less about. Either screen the members, limit the number of times each person can post per month, or seriously tighten up on the moderation (ie. start deleting posts). Players here will never hear a criticizing or spam comment out of me again, and hopefully realize I’m just an average player like them looking to play some CvS2.
I feel stupid now after seeing the answer to the question. I didn’t mean to be a complete jerk to the guy. Its just that I had the thought that Meaties literally just own up all other reversal attempts.
In example: I’ll record Kyo doing his hk throw. After it I’ll dash over and do a meaty s.mp. After recording Kyo do this, I find myself never being able to super/dp out of it. For some reason every time I did the dp, I kept getting hit. Because of this, I felt that there are no ways to get out of a solid meaty UNLESS they actually perform a reversal. Now as far as a reversal goes, I remembered hearing that reversals (in cvs2) have extremely tight timing. Because I felt that meaties could not be escaped other than by blocking them or getting hit by them, I flamed Renegade.
By reading his post, I felt that he was basically stating that DP’s and supers own up these meaties with ease. At this time I didn’t feel that he knew what he was talking about. As I stated before, I felt that reversals (in cvs2) had extremely strict timing.
I’m sorry to Renegade (and buk for that matter) for becoming a troll or another Stupid Retarded Kid. Sorry Renegade for saying that bull shit, and yes you were right that “I don’t know what skill level you are at” I only hope to be able to play you as you live in my area.
Once again, sorry for trolling the boards and I admit (and apologize) to the fact that my post was a clear example of what SRK has become.
nah KCXJ is honestly a cool guy. But he does have his moments.
In person, he’s honestly a nice guy unless you completely act retarded to him or start busting out cvs2 questions like no tomorrow like a nerd. Yes i’m stealing his word after what I saw at ecc, that shit just fits perfectly.
Motherfuckers pickin their nose and eating it in front of the cvs2 pools. GoDDAMMNNNN lol
I have the most trouble with the matchup of C-Blanka against an ultra-turtling Vega in pretty much any groove, however I play against C-Vega the most. The biggest problem in getting in on the ground is because of crouch forward and crouch strong, and to a lesser extent, crouch fierce. Just walking toward him is sort of a chore because of Blanka’s slow walking speed as well as the threat of the sweep. When he has a charge (which seems to be most of the time) I can’t really jump in because of the upward flip kicks or the level 3 claw super. Without charge, standing roundhouse or crouch fierce tends to knock me out of the air as well. If i can somehow get in with a crossover forward I’ll try to chip him/declaw with electricity, but those opportunities seem few and far between. Alpha counters also tend to stop any attempt I try to make at a rushdown and thus pretty much put me back where I started.
I keep hearing that against Vega the risk-reward is almost always in your favor since he can only really nickel and dime for the most part, and so I’ve been having a bit of success lately with an RC ball when I think he’s going to poke sort of crapshoot. I’m thinking that perhaps RC hop shenanigans might work somewhat. I’m also unsure of what I should be poking with too. I’d appreciate any advice you can give. Thanks.
How do you RC Lightning Leg Kick with Chun Li?
how about 2/3 for $5? i don’t have that kind of money, i’m a starving college student. and ricky just said it’s from playing you all the time, and since i can count the number of times i’ve played you on one hand, that doesn’t help me too much. he said that’s why you don’t bust out morrigan on him (and choi) because they can block everything and knows all the mixups.
i’m not doing a single money match at evo over $5. i don’t care how much i think i can win. i remember combofiend said at TS5 that he straight up doesn’t do money matches because he just likes the spirit of the fight and the challenge. he’s right in a bunch of ways.

read that, it’s the FAQ for new players to cvs2 conveniently located at the top of this very same section of the cvs2 forum.
IMO, that shit is a bad habit to get into. because you can do it, you almost always feel the need to do it on wakeup, and everybody and their grandma jumps straight up to punish you nowadays. you can jump and airthrow that. and other setups like dash into RC legs are pretty risky. i’d say RC legs are only REALLY useful to build meter from far away quickly, like after whiffing a standing strong or something. my $.02.
a very good question. you are right, vega doesn’t do a lot of damage so you can take a few more risks. you are also right in saying that vega WILL AA you if you jump straight at him w/ a level 3 claw super, standing rh, flip kicks, air throw, etc etc etc.
on the ground, use crouching forward w/ blanka more. it’s a quick poke w/ high priority. the odds of a vega being able to punish that ON REACTION is slim. once you get a few of those to stuff a crouching strong, then you’re getting somewhere. try a few random slides also against a jiggling vega. you MIGHT eat a jumping rh into slide, but you also might score that all important knockdown to setup a crossup forward into electricity or whatever else. if you start walking forward and you think a slide is coming, jump straight up and come down w/ a rh, crouching short, standing jab, fierce ball/super. you MIGHT eat an air throw if the vega has quick reflexes or something, but again, the risk/reward is in your favor.
a lot of people say to spam RC electricity, but vega can usually just sweep that if you’re out of range and he’ll win. you can still use RC electricity every now and then, but don’t count on it to win.
and if vega jumps, RC ball or super. make sure you can AA him jumping straight up and down also.
the worst thing you can do is jump at him head on and get impatient. that makes you eat a level 3 or other AA’s, which makes you more frustrated and gets you killed quicker. be patient.
peace
hello, people, new guy is here, my name is stephane and I am new to this world of capcom Vs. SNK so I was wondering if you could give me some inside like where I can find combo and which goove I should use as a started, also do you guy know where I can find videos of so that I can learn some???
thanks for letting me know
IMO, the absolute best thing for a new player to do is go out and find high level match videos. watch a lot of match videos and you’ll get a feel for how the game is played. and you’ll have less n00b questions to ask on the forums. go find some vids and be observant of what people do, then come back with any other questions. in case this at all sounded like a flame, im not flaming, just trying to give a bit of advice. try http://www.video-opera.com
edit: i guess this also depends on how new you are… i know watching tekken 5 matches does nothing for me.
also try this link for some info: http://www.shoryuken.com/games/cvs2/grooves/index.shtml
hrm on re-reading your post, i realized i didnt read it too well the first time around.
I have this problem too. I hardly ever look at my own character, my eyes are mostly focused on the other person trying to figure out if they’re gonna do something or just sit there and block. But then again, I don’t ever look at anything outside of the characters, 9/10 times I don’t know if I have meter or not. One time I traded hits with someone and the round was over… I got up walked away thinking I had lost for some reason, but I had half my life left. So much for awareness.
Well, I’ve got a followup question on meaties.
On rare occasions I’ve seen ppl do a meaty after knocking their opponent out of the air, who then air-reels back to the ground. They basicly land into the meaty move. This is probably a lot harder to setup correctly since the timing depends on how high the person was when he started air-reeling. But is this kind of meaty attack even remotely better than after a knockdown? I ge the feeling the answer is still ‘no’, cus of the whole ease-of-reversal-dp thing.
and yet… OTK has this corner thing where he resets you with c.mp xx hp.Reppuken and you land right into it. I think it works because it’s just one of the MANY options he has and it happens pretty fast.
There’s this combo I do with King that requires a venom strike (her fireball, I just love the official names) to hit meaty. Now if they super I should be able to roll on time (I’m running at them) since I can see the flash. The only thing besides AC I’m worried about is a reversal RC (and maybe CC activation). Now this long story leads to the simple question: “can ppl/you/random folks do wake-up RC’s consistently?”
And I’m not just talking about multitap moves like electricity.
Buktooth, i have a question about Iori’s command grab. For some reason, i cannot figure out how to do a combo after i input the grab and connect, he just throws his arm up and that’s the end of the animation, is there something i’m doing wrong? is the timing kind of like a C-groove lv 2 cancel? any tips would be appreciated, it’s one of those things that breaks my iori. Thanks!
