Ask me something

Ok here is why Combofriend beat Ricky and Justin at ECC. Nigga was feeling himself, straight up.

He guessed right 100% of the time on his “random” agroove activations basically. That’s pretty much what it came down to, unless you guys have anything specific that you want to know.

against justin in the winners bracket, 1st game CF fucked justin up, 2nd game went down to the last pixel, CF does eagle’s rush move to try and chip justin when he’s down to 1%, justin rolls through it at the last second and sticks out a limb, and it trades and he hits Sagat from behind for the win. lol ok…

Vs Ricky, he beat him 3-2 in the winners finals, I don’t remember exactly too much of what happened, but he got Ricky to play very impatiently and straight up beat his A-Vega with Rock.
He also got out all his 1-frame links and knew when foos were goign to swing every time on those non A-Groove activations.

Justin vs Ricky, I thought they were playing for real, but Ricky picks some C-Groove team and loses to Justin since Justin really wanted to play Combofiend again. I guess it was a bad idea since CF won 4-0. The first 2 games, Justin got fucked up really bad, last 2 games Justin missed several links that could have won him games (like sagat low fwd super? wtf?) And it didn’t help that CF was getting off those 1-frame links consistently either, geez.

I ended up losing to Ricky and Justin as usual. and I dropped Sagat for Vega since I can’t do any combos or DP short jumps on reaction anymore.

CF definetely seems to have stepped his game up, (i played him for $15 and lost) while alot of the old top players have fallen off…noone plays anymore. Ricky nor Justin didn’t look godlike at all.(and ricky, almost everytime I see him play outside of TS5 or this tourney, always looks fucking godlike gameplay wise.) There was no Canada presence for CvS2 outside of Roger. Montreal didn’t show up…neither did Nestor/LTB/Josh Wong. I think its safe to say that noone actively practices this game anymore so the quality of play went down a bit from last year, but it was still a good tournament none the less.

You’re probably trying to throw something out too fast. As far as I know, there’s no cancel or anything of that sort associated with Iori’s command grab, it just switches the side your opponent is on and puts you at a substantial advantage (+12?). Think of it like a link, a really easy link ie: wait for the full animation of the throw to be done, then go into ©hpXXrekka, or whatever. If you’re not sure when the throw’s animation is done, you can always hold forward during it or some such and watch for iori taking a step, in fact, it’s actually quite possible to walk forward slightly, then combo with the amount of frame advantage you have.

first things frist, just to make sure you are using the hcb,f+p grab and NOT the hcb+k grab. The punch grab (aka scum gale) grabs the guy and does no damage, at that point you get a big enough frame advantage to do some shiat.
The easiest combo (i think) is: s.hp, [qcb+hp]x3.

it sounds like you are having a problem just not really knowing wth the grab is good for. just try doing the command grab and then mashing fierce to get a 2 hit combo (the grab counts as a hit). see if you can get the timing for that link first and then try to get the whole combo (crawl before walk…). you also may want to try the s.hp, [qcb+hp]x3 combo by itself just to make sure you can do it eeezy breezy.

LTB wasn’t able to go due to money issues

since he’s playing ST-style crouch block vega, i think just doing max range slides should do the trick. to get around the slides, vega is going to have to either start moving around or try to jump at you, both of which you can counter

since it sounds like vega is just spamming long range safe moves, an even better solution would be to whiff RC jab ball at him. if he sticks something out he eats it, and if he doesn’t you’ll usually be able to go right into the RC elec/low short mix up

oh, and i think you’re misinterpreting the whole risk/reward thing. sure, most things aren’t terribly risky against vega, but make sure your reward justifies you taking these risks. the general idea is that vega can punish 3 of your mistakes for crap damage, and then you guess right once and come out ahead. RC blanka balls aren’t really rewarding enough

prett much the same way as you do blanka’s. the main difference is that you have to move your hand down to hit the kicks, then move your hand back up to hit the roll. it’s a lot less comfortable than blanka’s elec, but with a bit of practice they’re both pretty easy

they have a lot more uses than you might think. since everybody tries to bait rc legs by jumping straight up, you can easily counter that by walking under them and close rh xx super jump or throw or jabs into super or whatever.

theyre also useful after blocked SBKs, since pretty much everybody tries to mash afterwards. RC legs can be thrown after an SBK, but it’s not easy at all. i think it goes without saying that the risk/reward is way in your favor also

like RC elecs, theyre also really useful in your opponent’s reversal situations. doing them when your opponent is getting up, landing after getting hit by the super in the corner, and after hitting your opponent out of the air are all low risk, high reward situations

start with the “new to cvs2?” thread

doing a meaty move to an opponent that got knocked out of the air is another old tactic that was really powerful in ST, and also not so powerful in CvS2 for the exact same reasons. it’s also even easier for somebody to visually gauge the timing for a reversal when they get knocked out of the air

note that i’m not saying “dont use meaty attacks”. just use them when theyre really likely to work, or when the risk/reward ratio is really good. i do the same meaty fireball and run after it tactic with iori, since it’s basically free and i get all sorts of advantages if it’s blocked/hit

lastly, reversal RC’s are kinda hard to get 100%. keep this in mind against certain characters when they have no meter

so my final team as of rite now is A-todo/sak/blanka first I want to know what you think the best order for my team is, sense I have been undecisive so far.
Second, is there anything wrong on paper with A-todo vs ANY-Blanka?I have a really hard time with this fight and was wondering if you had any tips for this matchup or just in general for todo.

Yo Buk, when’s the best time to use counter roll forward and counter roll back?

I was thinking that for Guile, if Blanka is spamming you with slides and whatever low attacks he’s doing during his cc state, you can counter roll back (counter roll forward would make you eat a slide) and rc sonic boom if you are not cornered at least… Note that I haven’t tried this tactic yet.

against blanka’s custom just keep blocking since he really can’t do much blocked damage anyways. Worst case scenario you counter roll back he cancels into another slide and hits you. You lose a meter, half of your guard bar, and get hit with custom. Best case scenario you get a sonic booms worth of damage. experiment with common situations that could result in a good situation from a counterroll. Like if you are down to little life and you think sagat will chip you with low forward tiger super, counterroll through the tiger super and hit him with a combo.

Will the Nakoruru forums ever see life again?

when people start playing cvs1 again.

buktooth,

i keep getting weird shiat (fireball or uppercut) when i try to do lowjump jab/strong with iori into command grab. this is a non crossup situation, any tips?

Hey Buktooth and Popoblo…

Any links to OTK “new and old” videos and what team is Ino using right now, is he using any new characters…

I’m pretty sure the higher ups don’t want you requesting videos. Expect no answer.

Buktooth, need your opinion on something. If this is included in the things you wont answer then i apologize. Which do you think is the better c groove character, Guile or rolento? And can you explain why?

walking s.jab mixups in N or k-groove

I’m stealing your avatar

That’s kim vs kim doing RC stomps, in case you’re wondering.

You’re welcome, thankless scrub, ;).

Popoblo and Buk:

Thanks alot for the help.

lol, ok i thanked you in my sig :karate:

again, order/ratio/character/groove suggestions arent being answered in this thread

todo vs blanka does kinda suck. your goal (as always) is to push blanka to the corner, and from there you can work the crazy corner mix ups. it’s pretty tough for todo to get blanka in the corner, but once he’s in there blanka has a way harder time getting out than most characters

the main way for most characters to escape todo’s corner stuff is to roll between the low forwards and the waves, but blanka’s roll really sucks so he wont be doing that. rc ball might hit you between the low forward and the wave, but since blanka was in the corner you can just knock him down with a sweep or a f+forward and start the mix up over again. the constant threat of an rc grab (into death) during all this will also discourage blanka from doing rc elec

basically, counter roll forward when it gives you guaranteed damage. for intance, when a character does low forward into fireball or super, or after blocking a blanka super, etc. sometimes its worth it to counter roll certain moves just to get into mixup range safely, but the move has to be fairly laggy for that to work

counter rolling backwards is only good in really specialized cases. the most common use is to counter roll back after the 3rd hit of sagat’s hotfoot super and punish with a combo. this only works with certain characters though. pretty much the only other time i counter roll backwards is to escape chip damage death from ken and cammy’s up supers. you escape the chip damage, and also can punish them with a fat combo when they come down

probably not until some random otk videos pop up where he beats up some japanese top player (in casual, since he doesnt use nak in tourney)

i have no idea why you would get that. stop spazzing

again, read the guidelines on the first page. since i’m such a swell guy, i’ll paste it again here:

  1. Nothing tier-related. All that junk goes in the other thread.

Hey Buktooth,

Can I get some links to OTK’s video…ThX

:hitit:
