Ask me something (about Battle Fantasia)

Ashley’s heat is where it’s at. Damn, I haven’t played Battle Fantasia in forever. There was a certain set-up I used to do with Ashley where I’d launch my opponent, carry them to the wall, activate the heat and then do some stupid juggles in the corner.

Something like this:

…except without the infinite, lol. Apparently that’s the arcade version. They’ve removed the infinite in the console versions. I’ve already attempted it before and it didn’t work. Ashley’s heat allows him to juggle with two basic attacks so in the corner, I just either juggle twice with a Standing C and /or Standing D and then finish it off with any super (preferably Loyal Heart for maximum damage).

Ashley’s supers are fine. They’re not very powerful but you can connect them easily. After Judas Wing (F, D, DF + B or D) of either version, you can juggle with Secret Desire (QCF, QCF + B or D) since Ashley flies forward but you have to execute the super as fast as you can. It works from anywhere on the screen. You can connect Loyal Heart (QCF, QCF + A or C) this way in the corner and it does more damage than Secret Desire. Ashley’s Standing D is a great poke and it can be canceled into anything including the Loyal Heart super from far and close range but not Secret Desire for some reason (I guess that’d make him too good). His Crouching or Standing D into Glance Wing (QCF + A) is like Ryu’s Crouching MK into Hadoken.

So I’ve found that if you hit connect a Judas Wing, you can juggle with one attack. In heat mode, you can juggle with up to three basic attacks after Judas Wing. After a Forward Gachi, you can juggle three times. After a Forward Gachi while in heat mode, you can juggle four times. This is good to keep in mind so you know when to finish off the combo.

For example; you can do a Forward Gachi, Jumping D > Jumping C (into the corner), Standing C, Standing D, Secret Desire.

I randomly found out that you can cancel Jumping D into Jumping C for a three-hit combo just now (press D and then C in the air), lol. Anyway, if you know your juggle property then you can fully capitalize on damage. Just make sure the last juggle is a super if you have meter. Now this is all from what I’ve found out myself. If anyone knows any better tactics and / or combos, post 'em up.

This is on sale for 10 bux. Looking forward to receiving it.

I say his supers aren’t great because they’re slow and not invincible. I’m pretty sure you also get more damage out of his Heat Up combos most of the time as well, though I haven’t actually checked the numbers on it.

The number of hits you get in a juggle is based on a lot of things, but mainly its that certain moves ‘cost’ more or less. Repeating a move more than once in a row generally costs a lot extra although that’s not always true (see Coyori’s j.B or Face’s TK). Some moves cost very little to use so you can get long juggles with them, especially stuff like Ashley’s HU Wings, Face’s HU quickdraws, Coyori’s HU j.A/j.B/2D, and so on.

In the arcade version, there were even some moves where the first hit didn’t ‘cost’ anything at all, namely Ashley’s 5C. Anyway, it’s weird but long story short, sometimes the best combos involve doing some weird juggle tricks to maximize the number of hits you can get.

You can do some really wacky combos with Ashley using Heat Up + Charge Up too. Like:
63214K, 236A+B+C, j.236P j.236K 236K j.236K 236P, 5D 236236K
(Sorry if there’s a mistake in there, writing it off the top of my head)

You can also cancel either j.C or j.D into j.2C. Don’t remember which it is, but it’s really, really annoying.

Interesting post. I learned a lot.

What’s P and K, are those any Punch and Kick buttons? 236A+B+C isn’t an input, unless you mean A, B or C alone. I think I know what you’re trying to do with that combo but it’s not easy, lol.

I forgot that Ashley had 2C as a unique move. j.D is what can cancel into 2C in the air for a knockdown.

P means any Punch, K means any Kick. I usually use those when it doesn’t matter what button you pick. 236A+B+C is an Instant Heat Up 236B basically. What it really is, is A+C activates Heat Up and then you get 236B instantly. It’s a very important trick to learn, but the timing is difficult because you MUST hit all 3 buttons on the same frame.

I was wrong about the combo though, but you CAN do these:

With no stock:
63214K, c.C(1) 236A (for crossunder mixup)

With Charge Up:
63214K, 236P, c.C(1) 236A (for crossunder)

With 1 Stock:
63214K, 236A+B+C, j.236P, j.236K, 236P, 236K, j.236P

With Charge Up & 1 Stock:
63214K, 236P, D 236236K
or
63214K, 236A+B+C, j.236K, 236P, 236K, j.236K, 236P, 236K

With Charge Up & 2 Stocks:
63214K, 236A+B+C, j.236P, j.236K, 236P, D 236236K

There’s probably some better stuff than that though.

For High Gatchi Drive, this is silly and strong but somewhat hard to hit:
HGD Heat Up, 44, 236K, j.236P, j.236K, 236P, 236K, j.236P j.236K, 236P, 236K, j.236P, j.236K, 236P (wiffs)

ill be on all night, hit me up tag to the left

(evil laughs)

Destruction to all. (evil laughs)

Well I just got this on psn and noticed no combos for Watson on shoryuken so after 30 min of playing this is what I learned:

For Crossups B is good.
For Anti-Air his D is good

Bnb for Watson
Jump in C, St.B ,Cr.C ,J.D Hip de bunnyX2(2B)
St.A ,St.B ,Cr.C ,J.D Falling drop(214D)
St.B ,Cr.C ,Hip-De-Bunny(2B) ,D(inAir) ,Falling Drop(214D)

Combos to lvl up
Jump in C ,St.B ,Cr.C ,J.D ,Hip-De-Bunny(2B) ,C
Jump in C , C , D

Thats all I got for now.

i shall be getting this game on the psn.

Custom soundtrack?

Some other stuff off the top of my head:

… 2C, j.2B, 236B, 2C, 236D
Solid damage and trap setup. You can also place the super trap if you want instead.

… 2C, j.D, j.2B, 214B, 2C, 236D
Weird combo, you need to hit it just right so that the last hit of 214B doesn’t connect. Otherwise you can’t land the 2C. But it’s the strongest base combo off 2C that I know of.

6A, 5A 5B 2C …
Works on crouchers (which is when you’d hit with 6A anyway). Very important link.

236D, Throw
Do it fast enough and the trap will grab them during the throw. So stupid. :I

Two High Gatchi Drive Heat Up combos for you:
HGD HU, j.C |> 2C > j.2B 236B |> 2C > j.2B 236B |> 2C, C
HGD HU, j.C |> 236P, > j.D |> j.C |> 2C > j.236B |> C

I’m certain there’s much better than that though.

For a Heatup setup in the corner, be at Level 3 and get them hit by the trap. Then do:
2C, Jump and Heat Up, j.C |> 5A 5A 5B 2C 236C, 236D, 5C, 214P, 214P, 5A 5B 2C, 5C 236P, 214P

Basically, you set them up to tech recover into the meteors. Very hard to escape and does a crap ton of damage.

Hey I k ow I’m like the 100th person to say this but I just boughtthis game and it’s f***ing awesome I can’t believe it’s not more popular. (personally) it’s like a really nice blend of guilty gear and sf4, while being completely original feeling.

Is there any reasonably comprehensive resource people are working on? I’ve seen lots of disparate threads with some good info but no consolidated resources.

Is anyone stll playing this online regularly? Ibwent on xbl tonight and sat for 20 minutes refreshing ranked and player matches to no avail. Is there a player list anywhere? Please PM if you play on xbl fairly often.

Edit: I see other people have the same issue so I guess people are playing. I’ll add and try to get some games.

lookin for games on psn, add chicknNwaffls

greetings every one, I’m a below average Olivia user. I haven’t taken the time to learned all of olivia’s advance stuff because I’m still trying to learn her basic and develop match up experience.
What I can sum up is this.

Corner pressure game is excessive and gatchi is very strict. Combine with framtraps and throw trickery makes corner pretty much the worst spot to be in. ( and I usually like being corner to create reversal situation)

With her current tools. I cant developed a good use for her. I’m assuming olivia just was design to be rushdown. I’m punishment and reversal type of guy and do very little combos or pressure. Her damage and my intended play style don’t work well.

if this is so then what do you guys recommend for me? I don’t liking dropping characters ( or this game) but at the same time my time has become enjoyably in trying to play with olivia.

Olivia has two modes of play:

 1. Zoning, Poking, Building meter, simple mixups. This is what you do at mid screen most of the time.
 2. Rushdown, Resets, crazy fucking combos. This is what you do once you take them to the corner with meter.

And yes you are right, Olivia has literally no reversals and doesn’t really have any big punishment combos, AND her HGD is pretty crap so even if she gets one she’s not getting real stellar output.

Best characters for reversals are gonna be Donvalve, Urs, Marco, or Cedric.

If you can play a 360 type character, Donvalve sounds up your alley. Not a lot of combos to learn, big damage even on basic shit, 360/720 reversal, and Pancake is really good for punishing jump or hopping overheads and such. No rushdown, just really basic and effective mixups.

Urs is a not-quite-shoto type, he has a really good DP and a pretty decent fireball. His shoulder ram is an extremely good punisher, you can punish stuff from 1/2 way across the screen. With meter, you can Heat Up into it and get ~30% life for it. HGD combos are very good for him too. He’s kiiiinda rushdowny once you are on the advantage, but nothing really fancy, mostly just good pokes coupled with frame advantage type stuff. Needs a handful of combos and some of them are pretty difficult.

Marco is also a shoto type. Very good pokes, good fireball, good DP and supers. Easy to punish stuff for solid damage. Basic combos are pretty short and simple. Most of his best stuff is related to his Dragon though. Lots of nasty mixups and combos with it, but it’s pretty hard to get the advanced combos down. Still, he does a shit-ton of damage once you know how to use him.

And Cedric is just super-guile basically. Charge character, great fireball and reversal flash kick. Stupidly good at punishing thanks to drop kick and assorted shit that combos into drop kick. Supposed to play pretty much pure rushdown, but you can probably also play him keep away pretty well. Can taunt to build meter. Fraaaaame advantage.

That’s sort of a semi-face value rundown. I’d probably try them out in that order and see which you like the feel of best.

If anyone in H-Town wants to play, I’m always down.

Game is great.

Hey guys FYI the netcode for this game is pretty solid. Boston to Philly played flawlessly.

Also FYI I’m working on buffing the dustloop wiki with BF stuff from here and the dustloop threads. If you have any game/character info, consider posting it up there as well. You don’t even have to be registered to edit.

Just search dustloop wikia

Thank for your Gwyrgyn Blood for those information. It does seem all you listed is true though I’m surprise death bringer isn’t consider in your list as well. He’s not rush down material but isn’t he good for reversal?

Well with this information I’m glade to say I will be sticking with Olivia for just the love of her character. But messing with Watson lately too. But Battle fantasia is just amazing. Hopefully I wont drop this game.

I only specifically mentioned characters with legit non-super reversals. Deathbringer’s only reversal is his super, which is just mega-armor and not very good as a reversal except against a slim few things. You need to be very good with Gatchi to play DB because you are gonna use it a lot.

Do people still play this game on PlayStation Network?
