hey s1rgoth i sent you a friend request and mess on xbox live earlier. had 20 or so games with flux13 on BF earlier with no lag!was awesome. hopefully play you soon
Add me and lets play!
I am going to get this game today since my fighting game crave and the need to expand to other fighting games grows. I’m going to be playing this tonight for sure so please drop me a friend request on Xbox Live. My name on Xbox Live is “Xurkey”. Can’t wait to play with you guys!
-Chris (Xurkey)
I just got the game. I’ll add some of you later, but anyone who isn’t listed here yet feel free to add me on xbox live. gamertag = buffsealy
I’ve recently picked up this game as well. I’m rather sad that the online has been so small, as I’ve only played against two different folks from Japan and otherwise haven’t been able to find a soul. The single player experience is actually pretty fun for me, though, as I really enjoy the designs of most of the characters.
I’ve only been playing as Watson so far, as I think he’s an adorable and interesting character design with a lot of traps and mind games. I’m determined to get better with him, but I also still need to give the rest of the cast a fair shot.
If anyone else has this game and would like to add me, please feel free. My XBox gamertag is the same as my name.
As for the topic here, I do have a question, if anyone can answer:
I’d really like to get better with Watson, but you’re saying that he’s not that good of a character? I know there are videos and such showcasing his combos and gameplay, but could you tell me what makes him a ‘poor’ character? What can I do to cover his weaknesses?
Who ever told you that is just using an old Japanese tier list that’s not updated.
Watson isn’t low tier, Watson players win tournaments all the time compared to MOST of the cast.
The only reason they said that before is because he has the lowest life (but takes the least damage [but still dies before everyone else in relation to damage]), and leveling up sucks. But he rush down abilities put him right back up there where he would assume to be.
just got this game (never of heard of it before otherday)
i would really like pointing in the direction of some general info regarding the system at work.
explaining all the gachi things and how to level up etc…
also character combos and strategies would be nice.
Anyone got some strats / advice for Deathbringer?
Gachi is basically parry. Pressing the Gachi button is the exact same as pressing forward to parry in SF III. But if you press Forward+Gachi, it not only parries the attack but also knocks the opponent away and makes them bounce off the wall, putting them in a juggle state for a free follow-up combo. This is unique to Battle Fantasia and it’s pretty cool.
Sometimes people would ask me, “What’s the difference between regular parrying and pressing Forward Gachi to parry? When would you want to use one or the other?” Well, regular parrying works the exact same way it does in SF III. After you’ve sucessfully parried an opponent’s attack, you can immediately follow up with a bread and butter combo, a poke, a grab or even a super. If you just want to go for a juggle combo or just simply don’t feel like parrying a lot, you can go for the Forward Gachi which could also lead to an easy super follow-up depending on what character you are. I haven’t played the game long enough so I’m not sure if there’s a downside to the Forward Gachi.
Edit: After some time in Practice, I realized that the Forward Gachi wouldn’t work against 2-in-1 attacks like Ashley’s standing C and Marco’s standing D. If you tried you Forward Gachi them, you’d parry the first hit but you’d automatically take damage from the second hit and there’s nothing you could do about it. Deathbringer’s 2-in-1 far standing C on the other hand can be sucessfully parried with Forward Gachi. Ashley’s standing C and Marco’s standing D are really fast though so it probably depends on the speed also. I found out that you could actually regular Gachi and then Forward Gachi the 2-in-1 attacks if you see them coming. Basically you’d have to know and guess correctly in order to sucessfully Forward Gachi or you’d get messed up, so heavy mind games still apply here.
The “Heat Up” feature, I don’t know how else to explain it but I guess I’ll say that it gives you the ability to perform EX special attacks for a set amount of time for the cost of one super meter. This doesn’t apply to all characters though. Marco for example, summons Charizard and you’re able to command him to do one of two attacks which can trap and/or juggle the opponent for some offensive raping.
Edit: After some experimenting, I’ve realized that heating up gives you the Genei Jin ability, which allows you to constantly juggle your opponent in the air. Now I’m actually going to take advantage of this and use it to rape.
I think that’s it for the unique system. Everything else is like 3rd Strike let’s just say.
For Deathbringer, my bread and butter is simply standing far C (2 hits) and then juggle with Flame Claw (F, D, DF+A/C). The A Flame Claw is easier to link, I think because it comes out faster but the C version is 3 hits instead of 2 and I’m assuming it’s stronger. Plus, the CPU always does that combo, lol. I haven’t tried experimenting combos with his standing D yet but it knocks your opponent away and puts them in a juggle state. I’ve seen the CPU pull out some combos with it.
Edit: I messed with Deathbringer in Practice for a bit and found out some more combos.
Crouching C > A Flame Claw. The C version doesn’t juggle.
Crouching B > Flame Claw.
Close Crouching B > Fire Blow (HCF+B/D). I can’t seem to follow up the D Fire Blow with anything else, even though it looks possible and it bounces the opponent off the wall in the corner.
Crouching B > Cursed Destroyer (HCB+A/C). This doesn’t combo but you can cancel the crouching B into Cursed Destroyer for a mix-up I guess.
Jump-in C > Close Standing C > C Flame Claw. Jump-in C has to be deep.
Jump-in C > Standing B > C Flame Claw. The jump-in C has to be deep to connect with standing B and the timing for the C Flame Claw is a little strict.
Standing B > Standing D > C Flame Claw (in the corner). For some reason if you just do a regular standing D, you can’t follow up with anything else. But if you start the combo off with standing B, then it allows you to. Weird.
I’ve figured that if you want a good chance to get one hit in to pull out the Final Strike super (3 hits while in heat up mode), you should do a jump-in C but heat up right before you tap C. This’ll also give you a little more time to try to get two more hits in (if the jump-in attack connected) compared to just activating heat while standing and then poking with C. There was this one case where I was trying to trigger the special event in Story mode for Deathbringer while fighting against Donvalve. I was supposed to defeat Donvalve with the Final Strike. I think I hit him with the third sword attack while he was jumping because once Final Strike activated, the attack completely missed Donvalve. I was like, “WTF?!” I don’t know if this would always happen.
I like to activate Warcry (QCB+B/D) after a knockdown from any special attack, usually Cursed Destroyer (HCB+A/C). Don’t ever activate it if you’re close to a grounded opponent though because they’ll just wake-up grab you and then the charge will immediately run out. Cursed Destroyer is my favorite special attack. It freakin’ owns. Especially when it’s charged up during Warcry.
I don’t really use his super unless I want to just for fun. You can always get grabbed out of it if your opponent is fast enough and isn’t scared. I don’t think you can combo or set-up into it because I can’t figure anything out, lol. I usually try to charge it up after a knockdown and wait to see what my opponent’ll do. I think you gain some sort of armor (EX armor if you play SF IV or auto-guard if you play KOF XII) after a certain amount of time while charging because I played against a friend yesterday and I charged the super up for like maybe 4 seconds and he hit me once with like a close-range basic attack but it didn’t do anything and then I let go of the super and caught him, lol.
This is all I know about Deathbringer. I’ve only been playing this game for about two weeks and I pick Deathbringer sometimes just for fun. I’m mainly playing Story mode right now because I’m still trying to unlock all the costumes and achievements. I never really get a chance to play this game with real people since the online is dead and no one even knows about this game, lol. I’ll try to contribute some more strategies once I figure more stuff out and get to play real matches more often. Too bad there’s no character-specific strategies for this game. I really like it. I can actually win in this game unlike in 3rd Strike, lol.
Add me up on Xbox Live if anyone wants to play some ranked battles (for some free achievements, baby!) I don’t mind if you interrupt me during my SF IV sessions (unless maybe I’m in a player match with a friend). I’ll always be up for some Battle Fantasia.
Just googled Battle Fantasia…
Can’t believe I’ver never noticed it’s a fighter…seen it on Gamestop’s shelf many times…
This thread has me interested now…
THANKS!
Yeah but I’ve never actually seen it in stores and I’ve never heard of the game at all. A friend of mine randomly heard about it, showed me some gameplay footage on YouTube and then of course I had to go out and buy it since I collect every fighting game there is and the game didn’t look that bad.
You should get it though. If you like 3rd Strike then it’s perfect. Everyone has Genei Jin capabilities.
Add me if you want to play some XBL matches sometime.
maybe we could take a list of peeps that would like to play and organise a weekly fight fest?
That’s a great idea. I’d definitely be in. I’ve been trying to find more Battle Fantasia players online.
I know this thread is old but I just got Battle Fantasia recently and Im up for some XBL matches. The game surpised the shit out of me on how decent and good it is. I figured it was going to be some weird ass FF fighting game, boy I was wrong lol.
What combos does Donvalve have?
organizing a weekly thing would be fun, i’d be down
also i always forget this thread exists so i never get to answer questions lol
Hi im black knight im new to battle fantasia
Is it even worthwhile to use Ashley’s Heat? Or am I better off saving meter for super?
His supers suck and his Heat Up is the best thing he has. It gives him an instant overhead, and strong, easy combos. It’s pretty much what you always want to spend meter on with him.
Well shit, I need to actually play against people then. I have no idea what’s going on in this game hahah.
