In practice, the difference in timing is huge. It’s hard to measure in frames because you don’t care about the entire jump duration, just the time it takes until the jump-in hits.
Those characters can choose mid-jump whether to alter their trajectory, whereas Bison is fully committed to DR.
If Ryu has super, he can hit you if you DR. It’s not a guess, he just has to know the timing.
There are more than a few characters who can punish DR on reaction if they have meter. Abel, Viper, Ryu, Sagat, Bison, and Seth off the top of my head.
Headstomp and DR have situational uses, but they’re not very good offensive tools.
Yeah also cammy and ibuki I personally think the only time you should feel threatened by bison is when he is mid screen or in your face. Good players now how to handle the DRs or HS “shenanigans”
When I first mentioned DR and his Jump, I did as a way to punish fireballs.
Punish.
If you use DR or jump randomly, you’ll obviously get punished yourself.
Seth can easily bait you into DR and punish with Ultra. Ryu can’t bait it that easily, even if the punish is easy to time. Again, using DR when ryu has super is always a bad idea.
Jumping and empty DR are not effective ways for punishing fireballs. Jumping in is risky and requires prediction, and I don’t know how you’re getting in with empty DR. Those two options are not reliable and will get you killed quick.
Do you mean using the headstomp to cross someone up? Similar to ryu’s jump medium kick ?
Or do you mean after a knockdown, headstomp to go over a person’s body to make them confused about which side you’re going to be on?
I have never done a headstomp as a cross up on purpose. I don’t know any set ups where that would be possible. There has been weird cases where my opponent has stuck out a move. And as he’s recoiling from the move , the headstomp looks like it crossed them up. Do tell though, if you know or are thinking of ways to land this
It’s possible. All your opponent has to do is walk a little bit forward after the headstomp starts. Just a few steps is enough for the Headstomp to hit as a crossup.
The hitbox is a tiny horizontal one. So it works as a crossup too, but it’s awfully rare.
It happens sometimes because Headstomp locks on. Once it does, since it’s trajectory can’t be changed, if the target moves a little bit towards you, you’ll hit just a few pixels behind them. So if they don’t block the right way, they get hit by a crossup headstomp.
If the opponent doesn’t move after the headstomp, it’s not possible to use it as a crossup. Headstomp locks on as a normal frontal hit. The opponent would have to move.
Hum, long time ago, when Andre would pop up on streams… he’d have somebody cornered, do a point blank ex PC into EX HS, and the commentators were claiming that the HS would cross-up if his opponent were to tech the initial fall. My recollection of the events might be a little hazy though ~_~
yeah cr.lk x 3 scissors does shit damage. But Cr.lk Cr.lp St.lk Cr.mk Scissors xx Does not.
Cr.lk 3 frames. So 210 damage from 3 frame move, everybody does Cr.lks but bison has more damaging combos with Cr.k as a starter
That combo will definitely fail in many situations
Most the cast will be holding back And avoid either the 3rd or 4th hit of your combo. Or they will simply be standing up which somehow has their hitbox move back further
I don’t know if I ever mentioned this but if you don’t have a charge, technically you can still do a scissor kick combo that’s somewhat damaging (imagine ken whiffed a LP dragon punch )
Walk up, low jab, wait, stand jab, low forward , WAIT, link a scissor kick
You can late cancel bison’s low forward
This shit loses to mash uppercut though If your timing sucks
Perfect example of how the frame data doesn’t help is what advantage or disadvantage are you at on block with a safe slide, or max range PC. Has to be at least -2, maybe even. There is plenty more out there that only safe at max distance.
I complain about Bison’s subpar AA’s on a regular basis, so I agree there. The sad thing is that it could be fixed by simply removing the far version of st.hp and using the close version everytime. It was done before in MVS2 and believe me I loved it.
Bison has to play so much smarter than his opponent, pity no one believes me when I tell them that though I suppose its because one mains sim and the other mains vega.
Random note, for crying out loud speed his teleport up. I can not remember any other game where it was this bad.
Air is in losers bracket top 8 for singles and his team (Team Japan - Daigo/Mago/Air) are in top 6 in teams. The names you’d expect to be there still are. (Mago, Daigo Wong etc).
I didn’t get to see any Bison representation. Hopefully I’ll catch some off the YT videos that get put up.
