I don’t see how anyone could say Varg is a coward. He burned down a bunch of churches, found out someone wanted to kill him, showed up to his house with a pocket knife, killed the guy and when he went to court he ranted about Christianity being a Jewish conspiracy against Europe, and eventually escaped prison despite only having a little bit of time left.
I remember watching this video years ago. My personal opinion on the matter is that it is your right to not talk to the police but if you did nothing wrong then you have nothing to worry about.
It’s a big story here in Australia. Australia and the United States are close. We fought in the Pacific against the Japanese, we went to Nam, we went to Iraq. We buy a lot of fruit from the States during our off-seasons among other things. I’d say there would be a deal of international pressure there especially because Australia has a good relationship with China. Big picture here but you can see why that’s important to security in the Pacific.
You asked me how I FEEL about the video, and I told you how I felt about it.
If you wanted to discuss the legal merits of it, then you should’ve said that in the first place.
Is the video legally sound? yes. You can research legal precedent and cases for hours, put this topic in a box and conclude that talking to the police is not a good idea. But There is a difference between real life and the books.
Realistically, what is described in that video is far fetched and unlikely to happen and I’ve never seen it nor heard it happen in my time working.
When it is feasible, a police officer is supposed to approach you with courtesy and respect. I won’t deny that there are some cops who are dicks in every situation and I can assure you other cops notice and dislike them too.
In regards to your situations where you were detained. Please understand that I’ve been in countless situations where when we arrive on the scene of a crime, and the person who is being elusive, making a show, walking away and saying similar things to what you said, end up being the perpetrator after further investigation. Experienced Bad guys do what you described to try and buy time and get away. Behaving like that raises the suspicion of experienced officers, which justifies detaining you for longer and doesn’t help you go about your day any faster.
It’s your anecdote and unknown qualifications vs their independently verifiable qualifications and examples.
I have come across many anecdotes of cops, prosecutors, juries doing the opposite of what you’ve described. So which one is true?
Doesn’t it seem fitting to keep shut and let the actual evidence work its way out?
The officer said so. Something like, "People are impatient. People have jobs. People have kids. I’m getting overtime. I’ll stay here all night"
If arrested, request a lawyer and keep your mouth shut. Justice takes time, and in this case, your freedom is encumbered in the process of proving innocence.
They give specific counter examples and arguments to your opinion.
Innocent people have gone to jail and have been convicted and sent to prison.
Innocent people get caught up in the cross fire all the time.
Furthermore, I’d much rather discuss the following:
Don’t talk to cops.
In that video, they state more specifically, don’t talk to cops or prosecutors when you’re under suspicion, under any circumstances.
What about when you are a victim of a crime or are a witness to a crime? How does one go about helping the police?
The last question is asked because after videos and other similar evidence, in what way should anyone help a police officer?
It doesn’t happen “all the time”, out of the millions of cases that have happened in the history of our justice system, wrongful convictions have been proven in much less than one-one hundredth of one percent of total cases.
If youre a law abiding citizen, chances are you’re not going going to be falsely charged and then convicted of a violent crime. If anything, the opposite is true. If you’re a violent Criminal, chances are you’re going to be arrested, charged and will receive light consequences for violent offenses. the justice system has become a joke and a revolving door.
At the end of the day, if you want to keep your mouth shut, that’s your right and is totally fine. I was asked my opinion and I gave it.
“How many people are convicted of crimes they did not commit? Last year, a study I co-authored on the issue was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. It shows that 4.1 percent of defendants who are sentenced to death in the United States are later shown to be innocent: 1 in 25.”
166 wrongful convictions overturned last year, with almost half of them being overturned because of police misconduct. And 4% is not “less than one-one hundredth of once percent.” How many of those people are even alive to defend themselves now? You are so full of shit it’s incredible.
