You are saying that Abel has no throw game because Step Kick into TT sucks now…:wonder:
Abel shouldn’t use Step Kick into TT in sfxt anyways, since he really doesn’t need it and that tactic got fucked up in this game anyways. He makes up for this by having a much better tick throw game. You can now mix up cr.lk’s with TTs, and get a HUGE reward out of landing a cr.lk because they guessed wrong and held up.
Dash up TT is also still good, and you can mix that up with st.lk confirms. Not to mention his chargeable tackle…
His vortex is weak compared to sf4, but his upclose pressure game is better IMO.
Anyways, fuck SFxT and let’s get back into SF4 discussion.
Only time Abel should be step kicking in SFxT is when he has the meter to intimidate opponents with EX Tornado Throw. Then his old step kick mix-up game somewhat comes into effect.
Roll is also a great tool. Abel is one of the few characters that can actually chase and get in in SFxT.
There’s more, but we can take this over to the SFxT forum if you want to get deeper into the discussion
just wondering what set-ups you have off of a front or back throw (lp+lk to be clear)? I’ve got my post-COD/FS/TT setups down pat but needed some off throw. I land normal throw quite a lot but am always at a loss of what to do right after.
Been a while since I’ve been in the Abel forums! Was playing sfxt casually and single player games a ton.
•Setups for backthrow are the same as falling sky
•Setups for forward throw are the same as falling sky and backthrow if you whiff low short first!
I got some matches recorded Strider, I always get bodied against you, dash command grab doesn’t work with Abel that well online, good stuff put on BSIDA
Long time no see in this forum. Sorry again, been really busy with real life shit (got place with girl, new job, etc) but I’ll start being more active here.
Don’t know if you guys payed attention this weekend, but I traveled to NWM and got top 8, but then got blown the fuckup by Ricky. Before people start crying on how bad the match is, I’m gonna say that he just outplayed me. He was blowing up my OS, and instead of adapting, I became stubborn and kept trying to get away with it. Props to him for handing me my worst defeat in a long time.
I’m hella salty about Rog though. I had that last match but lost because of execution problems. I fucked up ex.tt when he did meaty jump in first round and then the obvious ultra whiff on 2nd round. Fuck.
There is nothing worse than losing to yourself. I can accept being outplayed and respect it, but when you give away a match because of execution mistakes it just eats at you. Good shit to Eduardo for staying solid the whole set though, he is definitely the best rog on earth.
Anyways, back to Abel and away from my soap box. Can’t wait for Evo, I’m gonna start a hardcore grind for Evo, I’m shooting for top8 instead of top 12, hopefully I pull a FlashMetroid and don’t face any Japanese until top 8, lol
its about getting in and staying there. I find that I need to trick him into doing something if I want to get in, because his defense is really solid, and also he’s got ways around Abel’s mixups, so he can also get out of stepkick stuff (not as easily as bison, but kinda).
You don’t necessarily need to “trick” him, you just need good footsies, and it’s been repeated multiple times, that’s something I can’t teach you, only experience can.
Most People that get blown up by rog usually do so because they don’t have patience/footsies and just continue to run face-first into random pokes/aa’s. My advice is obvious. Don’t. Just chill for a sec, there’s no need to go in balls to the wall, take your time, analyze the rog you’re playing. Most Rogs will press random buttons or dash punches until someone shows them that they know how to deal with it, and then the rog would either adapt and start playing for real or get blown up.
First thing to learn when dealing with rog is spacing. You have to learn to not press buttons inside his sweep range since his pokes are faster than yours. Just chill outside sweep range and wait, wait for something, anything. If he throws out pokes, you’re in, sweep or stepkick that shit. Smart rogs won’t throw pokes and just dash punch instead. St.mp beats dash punch FREE, use it.
After stepkick his only real options are jab, headbutt, backdash. They aren’t scary at all, he gets as fucked by blocking stepkick as any other character. Start conditioning them by doing stepkick - normal throw so they can stop mashing jab (which beats most of your options clean). After that, just do standard Abel shit, it’ll work.
I don’t want to get in too much detail, so if you were to take anything from this post is this: stop running into pokes and giving away free damage, play patient and look for the knockdown, then go for the kill
Thanks for the advice man, really appreciate it. Now Id like to ask you about C.Viper, I find it really hard to pin her down since she’s got so many reversal options and when she’s on the offensive im free to her throw/bk mixups.
online is the worst thing with Abel, what’s possibly more bad than dashing in with command grab hoping it’ll work online? Is your other main Rufus, Strider?
Speaking of Makoto, Strider, I have a request for you. We are trying to make a tier list, but there are very few Makoto mainers - and since you are probabelly the only top player that mains Makoto, i thougt to ask you if you can help us with some Makoto match up numbers - I know this is Abel thread, but still…
