How do I deal with cr.jab mashers? whether it’s on wake up, reset situations, any situation the guy mashes crouch tech. I don’t always have meter for EX TT and he also holds up a lot hah.
Meaty attack should blow up mashing
mash c.lp on wakeup only beats OS back throw. do anything else.
its vs the guys who insist on mashing out normals on wakeup you can abuse meaty c.fp xx falling sky for huge damage
I can do HD recording and stuff… shoot it over here. I need some new stuff for my YouTube page haha
I think I could have represented pretty well at CC but I DQed myself so I could just do commentary all day instead. I had RF and Fubarduck in my pool… RF was legit worried after finding out there was an Abel in his pool, and started grinding the matchup with Kindevu playing Abel so he was ready. I never got a chance to play RF tho to see how things would have played out I wasn’t in good SF shape by any means, either, only did an hour of training mode and maybe 25 games in the run up to CC. 10 vs joz, 15 vs momochi
but my bro’s performance in the international 5v5 made me excited for SF again so I’m back to grinding that shit out
Yun vs Abel is 7-3 for free…shit is retarded. Yes, to win you will have to make really risky reads (this is what you have to do in EVERY bad match-up though), but only thing that keeps this match-up going from retarded to impossible is that you can kill him off 3-4 correct reads. You have to go in and take those risks, punish every whiffed special/normal with MAX damage, and stuff sloppy dive kicks. Something I saw Nekojita do that I thought was genious was that when he blocked a sloppy dive kick that left Yun at frame disadvantage, he would go for st.hp -> lk.roll. This insured that the move was going to come out no matter what if Yun was at -2 or more. It also stuffs follow up dive kicks and gives you a nice mixup to boot.
But honestly, my current strategy vs Yun is a lot more simple…Makoto
Dude… how has your work not fired you yet… your online 24/7
Good shit, I’ll just copy/paste the shit I sent HAV. It’s not that many setups, but they are pretty sick and some of them are really usefull
Depends when they are mashing jabs. I assume these are 3 frame normals you’re talking about (anything above that just means you are fucking up in all of your strings). If it’s on wake up, just fuck them up. If your setups are on point, you should be in their face with tons of frame advantage on their wake up, just do a meaty normal or TT…or actually, anything meaty will beat this scrub option. If it’s after step kick, that gets a bit trickier. 3 frame normals after a blocked step-kick will successfully shut down 80% of your options if timed right. Best way to beat this is to use normal throw. This will also condition them to tech the throw after a couple reps, opening them up for a free TT.
If they are mashing jabs in between your strings, tighten them up or make sure you are using strings with enough frame advantage to prevent them from interrupting them.
I’m too sick
Hurry it up! I want to see the technology
it’s more wake up cr.shorts with Ken and Cody. I’ll try meaty attacks next time since he favors holding up a lot as well after a blocked step kick and on wake up. Btw, if I whiff the grab after a blocked step kick I have enough time to st.hp AA a neutral jump right? I never actually react to neutral jumps in that situation so I gotta improve on that part.
You can unless they hit you really high in their jump, and then it probably won’t be a real combo/block string
Well Guile and Dhalsim are part of the original cast and Abel is French. Also, Team NAH. Joking aside… despite being in SoCal, I haven’t been to any majors besides EVO. Been to some ranbats, small tourneys, and WNFs. I play against good players all the time when I do go out, so I definitely have the skill. I just don’t have the drive. That’s my story at least. =p
I’ll make videos when 2012 comes out. I have a capture card setup already but I’d like to record on my PC (rather than the 360), when I get a video card.
i am pushing 2-4 hours a day, just gotta play more, but I hope to be an abel player making an appearance at majors in the near future :3
I’ve been on vacation, back on that AE grind starting Monday, though I might just wait for 2012 to come out since its going to come out to the arcades first iirc
^ yeah I’m exited for the arcade upgrade…
I know it prolly won’t happen and it wouldn’t make anysense but i’m nervous that some of my local arcade might jack the price up to take advantage of the hype…
It broke my heart when I saw AE for 75 cents when it first came out… I don’t wanna go through that again
I’d rather play vanilla for 25.
I feel dumb asking for this, but I like Abel and i’m really trying to pick him up but I just get demolished as him. I also don’t see a general “ask baddie questions” I mean, I’m no scrub (not to flatter myself) I typically do well in tourneys around here (with Bison) but I just get ghetto stomped by the dumbest shit as Abel.
Basically, my ‘game plan’ so far as been to chip away with st.lks, use step kicks to get in and do mixups but I swear to god they always guess right. It’s not like I’m doing very repetitive motions (i mean i’ve watched my replays.) Whenever I try to block string, I get reversaled. If I try to TT them, they jump/backdash. And so on and so forth.
Is there some sort of option select necessary to make the dash in options safer? I usually don’t work on things like option select/frame traps for a character until I have their fundamentals good but I just get blown the fuck up by the dumbest shit and it really demoralizes me to play Abel.I mean it seems like the guesswork should be in my favor so I don’t see how the odds of me losing these dash-ins realistically seem so bad.
I also got troubles with people just locking me down in pressure and frame trapping me. I mean… I’m pretty good at teching/blocking that but getting out of it is a whole other thing. Everytime I try ex rekka i just get knocked out by jabs. If I roll I just get grabbed.
Anyways, those are two questions I guess but if anyone has an ‘easy’ idea on how to start winning with Abel, that would be swell. When I play defensive, it seems I just get chipped down and my anti-airs usually trade/get beat out in their favor. COOL STORY ME.
with my scrub experience I can offer you some safe stuff- basically your connected stepkick should always result in a combo. blocked stepkick, good option is to back throw, like a standing tech timing, since reversals can still get you pretty good. when I play people that I see backdashing a lot, I use the crouching jab/short into sweep option select because that long sweep definitely beats backdashers.
in other threads people have covered some good option selects to use which will cover neutral jumpers, people that jump back and away it’s tough to say.
sometimes people that don’tknow better try to do stuff like mash jab or other non reversal stuff after the blocked stepkick dash, when I see a lot of that I just continue my combo from close fierce as if they had not blocked the first hit.
basically my feeling on blocked stepkicks is that as long as i play it kinda safe, the worst case scenario is that they escape and lose some ground, not that I lose ground/advantage.
also since normal TT is grab invincible you can beat people teching, but you should maybe condition them to tech a lot before throwing it in there imo
i am not gustavo. I have, however, touched his penis.
Yup.
you say that you are losing to “the dumbest shit.” If everything you are doing isn’t working, yet everything your opponent does IS working, then you goofed. If someone beats you with 100 uppercuts, followed by waiting a moment and then channeling cruella deville on you, then that was the exact strategy he should have been using. If you want to play this character, you must accept this immediately.
When something hits you with something that you consider “dumb,” ask yourself two questions:
1: why did he do that “dumb” move in that situation
2: what are you going to do about it if he does it again the next time?
any other questions are a complete waste of your time.
People indeed do retarded shit in this game. if you are not significantly better than them at the game, it will probably work often. Even if you are better, it might still happen. the thing you need to face up to is that it worked, and you now look like a clown for falling for it, not him.
You say you watch your replays. that’s good, but based on the vague way in which you mention it, i can almost guarantee you aren’t looking at them right. Saying “WHY HE JUMP” every time you TT is not going to get you better. There is always a reason behind someone doing something, even if the answer turns out to be “he is a smelly idiot.” Consider meter, the clock, positioning, life totals, current score, and the level of smelly idiocy he presents. Since so few people in this game actually have access to a successful abel player, you can often rely on the fact that a lot of people will have the same reactions to his entry level shit. This knowledge won’t win you a major, but it definitely lets you run through the unskilled/unprepared with ease.
doing homework for videogames is for nerds, but if you think this shitstorm of boring words has any merit, use what i said about watching replays to study a match of someone who isn’t a chicken mcshitter like me.
videogames: serious business
yo strider i heard you won some online tourney or summin, grats
I was there…by the way, you guy showing up to scr? I want to play you guys again
P.s. I was the (then) shitty cody. Scott-bot
Not to disparage players who use it. I mean, when I play someone like Bison or Ken, if I know someone is just being overly aggressive and trying braindead frametraps/tick throws I’ll just reversal through their stuff too.
I had a little bit better luck tonight as Abel. Maybe I shouldn’t think of him so much around the TT. He’s the only grappler i’ve ever played so i’m not used to using command throws and i whore it out a bit too much.
yessir, we should all be there. we play games for sure
