Art's Hobbies - DIY Acrylic Cases

Yeah, almost forgot about that, don’t want to be showing BBs at the side of the stick after all.

I’m so excited for these I can hardly contain myself. I actually made an account just so I could reply to this thread. I had a question and I was hoping one of you would be able to help me out with this.

I was planning on getting a case with a place for a neutrik adapter and also a hole in the center for a cord coming out as well. The reason for this is because I was planning on having two pcbs in it, one being the joytron paewang revolution, and the other being a standard gamecube controller. I really couldn’t figure out a way to get it to where I didn’t have two cords out at once, considering that the two aren’t compatible with eachother at all, so I thought I could mod the gamecube cord to where I could cut the controller cord in half, and I could made it where I could just have the cord not on the controller most of the time, and have the internals hooked up to the neutrik adapter, and just mod the other end of the cord to the other side of the usb so I could connect it when I needed it to. I would just have the one that I’m using the most often, the paewang, hanging out the middle hole…

I had an idea though. What if I used a USB hub so I could have BOTH the paewang and my gamecube controller mod hooked up to the neutrik adapter, and just change the cord I plug into it on the outside of the case. Is this possible?

You can still do GameCube and Paewang with RJ-45.
So always having only one cord at a time.

You don’t need two holes.

hey art I got my order today it looks great thanks!

Edit: NM I am a retard

I wonder how “Durable” are these Acrylic Cases, anyone own one? any feedback would be great.

I own one.
Sp00ky owns one.
shiryu22 owns one.
Danmartigan owns one.
networkingyuppy owns one.

Only the people on that list own Acrylic Case right now.
We are all the Testers, except Sp00ky, he got for Promotional.

What would your verdict be on durability? From small things (scuffs) to big things (cracks?)

It’s plexi, so treat it as such - same things that will scratch or crack an Art Hong plexi will probably scratch or crack the case. If you take care of the case and are mindful of the fact that it’s made of plexi, you should be fine.

I’d say they’re fairly durable.

Let me qualify that statement with this one; I have travelled, via car, as far as Las Vegas and Irvine from Sacramento, CA (8hours+) to tournaments. My original TE (purchased Summer 2009) has been thrown around, dropped, smooshed in between various bags/garments, and is fine. I do NOT think Art’s case will be as durable; it simply can’t be. It is made entirely of plexiglas, which is more fragile than the TE’s plastic frame and metal panel. However…

Though I haven’t been travelling much as of late (school is kicking my ass - I’m not even running my local tourneys anymore :[ ), I can tell you that I have travelled to maybe six or seven tourneys with Art’s case, and it’s still in great shape. No cracks or chips so far. Granted, I haven’t been playing much as of late, and I am fairly delicate and gentle with my sticks (both in terms of treatment and playstyle), but I have slapped on the top and knocked pretty hard on it intentionally to show that this case isn’t as flimsy as some people might think. Granted, again, it IS plexi, and will NOT withstand the same abuse a full wooden / thick plastic can withstand, but it is durable enough to play and travel with. You just have to be mindful of the build materials and you’ll be fine.

One nifty aspect of it being plexi, though, is that if a certain part breaks or gets chipped, you can simply replace it. What’s also cool is since I was given an early prototype of the case, Art may have made some modifications to the design. If I’m not mistaken, the top panels should be even more durable on the actual production run. Care to help me out, JDM :D? I know you’re one of the resident stick experts around here.

Oh yes, I forgot that I am only one with both styles of the TEK-CASE.
And I am only one with non-Weight and Weight version of TEK-CASE.

I’ll add more to this Post here to follow up on you shiryu22.

Art’s DIY case Template

Sorry for my first post being a request but do any of you guys have the templates to Art’s case so i can get the artwork done on Photoshop while we are waiting for the site to come back up. Thanks

Do you think i will be able to have enough room for a chimp and a xbox36o pcb?

Yes, you will.

Heyo guys! The site is back up! Please read the info on the homepage. I will be back to answer some questions. Right now I’m just incredibly fatigued. Be back in a bit!

No NHTRAN plexi?

I’ll add that in a couple of days. Still got a list of things to do. Must sleep now, lol.

Anyways, damn im so tempted to get one of these acrylics i hope i can resist…

Hey Art,

How would I go about mentioning the Turbo/Guide area cutout on the left side? Is that still cool with you? If so, looks like you’re getting 100 bucks from me tonight.

Also, What is the best way to mount PCB stuff to the case? I need to get the MC Cthulhu, Imp, Button strip, and MadCatz PCB in there. Any pros out there with advice on that would be sweet! thanks!

P.S. What is color option “OP Black”? I don’t know what OP means :stuck_out_tongue:

So far, arthong just use cable ties to mount.

And for the Cthulhu, Multi-Console Cthulhu, ChImp, you can use screws.
The PCB Plate has holes made for that.

Opaque Black.

Thanks for the information! So I would use 2 of the supplied mounts to mount the PCB and MCCthulhu, the long mount for the buttons, and what about the imp? (extra individual parts aren’t available for order yet.)

Thanks, Art, this answers almost everything I could want to know…there’s just one more thing. Is it possible to get etching on a plexi cover, or are they too thin for that?
