Art Appreciation *PICS*

Did a search for ‘paint’ because obviously you can’t search for ‘art,’ and found nothing. Not sure if many of you are gonna care about this sort of art, but here we go anyway!

I’ll just start things out with a few and if there’s interest/demand I’ll add more and/or take requests (I can “acquire” high-res versions ).

Wow. That Joan of Arc looks quite realistic.

Wonderful thread!

Would this belong in here?

I always found that the images from “The Divine Comedy” were very cool. The images I’ve seen anyways. :wonder:

awesome stuff guys

this is a great idea for a thread
Props crouching tiger, sasmasta!

Hmm nice thread, this picture always gets me, too awesome

Sure sasmaster that image belongs. I’ll mostly just be posting some older stuff. Feel free to post really old, newer, whatever. Famous, not-so-famous. Paint, drawing, sculpture. It’s all good. The reason I posted that Joan of Arc is because, as you said, it looks impressively real. I’ve never heard of the artist before though.

Who painted that bill? It dooes look awesome.

Gaudi

Oath of the HOratti is classic. There’s so much politics around it too.

anybody that thinks a painting looks “realistic” has never seen Cottingham

Mixah, those are some disgustingly real paintings! :looney:

Yep yep. Here!

Dali  Some of his stuff reminds me of Escher, or maybe vice versa.

Here’s a question. With popular paintings, you can often find hundreds of slightly different pictures of them on the net. Like these two Van Gogh Starry Nights. Both are silghtly different than the one Mixha posted. Which one is more accurate in terms of color?

http://www.auburn.edu/~goldema/van_gogh_-_starry_night2.jpg

I can get Starry Night in a semi-high-res. Not 5k x 6k like some of this other stuff heh. But which color variation do I get?

The darker one is the one that I’ve seen in every art class i’ve taken, however, it’s usually more white. it’s somewhere between, because you can see the brown in the painting of the tree on the real one.

that’s actually a photograph of the painting.

two more incredibly realisitc paintings

chuck close’s self portrait - arcrylics on canvas (this paiinting is fucking HUGE too. it’s about 10 feet tall)

hanson’s cowboy - oil on canvas.

those are the two that i was orignally looking for.

another favorite of mine, i don’t think i can post on this site because of hte nudity, but check manet’s olympia. i know something about interpretting this painting that hasn’t been published just yet. but when it gets published next year, manet scholarship will literally get thrown out the window.

Holy shit that cowboy really does look real. :wow:

that’s a hanson sculpture… it goes with a cowboy sculpture that he made…

another great painter, but much prior to the photorealism movement in the twentieth century is cailletbotte
