Without illegal immigrant labor, the country’s economy will fall even more into the proverbial shitter. Yes, it’s a dirty secret, but an illegal workforce literally powers a significant portion of our economy. Someone said it earlier: what happens when you remove the bottom story of a building? People get all South Park on this issue (“DEY TOOK ERR DERBS”) but every migrant worker, legal or illegal, I’ve ever met has been extremely hard-working and courteous. (I live in SoCal, born and raised, so yes I’ve met many…)
Republican business owners are shitting their pants right now because, though they drop an entirely different line when asked in public about their opinion on illegal labor, their businesses literally cannot function without this workforce. Serves the hypocrites right.
It’s a thorny issue but I’d rather be a country that accepts hardworking people of all ilks. Look at our goddamn history. We are immigrants, every one of us.
Not really. The entire discussion of why they want to come here/why they shouldn’t be allowed to/why people are for it/what illegals give to this country/etc. has been done millions of times.
Even if you, yourself, don’t actually know why people don’t want illegal immigrants coming here, you’ve probably heard it talked about/seen enough of it on TV to know that “hey, I probably haven’t been teleported back to Nazi Germany where there’s an organized effort to segregate and destroy an entire race of people.”
I just read about a rancher who was murdered by an illegal immigrant, the immigrant killed him, stole his stuff, and then fled back into Mexico. Another nearby ranch has been robbed 18 times by illegals since 2006 with the robbers running back into Mexico with the Arizona police stopping at the border and giving up. Its pretty horrible I hear, and something really needs to be done about, the federal government hasn’t done anything, so maybe it is time that the state governments do something.
“Just because something is illegal doesn’t necessarily mean it’s wrong”
I’m pretty sure that’s the only thing that makes something wrong in a definitive sense. Just because you have a natural inclination, or the species as a whole, to behave in a certain manner means nothing.
Not saying you should blindly follow every rule on the book, but I think one should have an appreciation for the systems that are in place. Actual reasons for being against illegal immigration are dependent on the person because the problem is: a mass of unregistered persons are moving into the country. It is fair to have problems with their taxes, health care, criminal records (high rate of sex offenders for example), cultural issues like those mentioned here: http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/04/30 /arizona.hispanics.immigration/index.html?hpt=C2, and so on. There is a reason the actual immigrants are forced to take tests, and fulfill requirements.
"Right, because lazy American fucks are just begging to flip burgers and cut grass. "
Maybe in your state everyone but Mexicans are pulling in 30k+ plus a year. But here its quite the opposite. The dirt poor have always worked fields and fast food. People strip tobacco, hunt for roots, kill food, and so on because they have to. Also teenagers can work these as summer/HS jobs. Secondly, this is just a bullshit comment because Americans in general aren’t lazy. Last i checked Mexico was the second fattest country in the world.
Weeks ended this thread. This is something that has been long in the making. It’s not because people hate mexicans! You can’t fucking walk over the boarder and expect to get citizenship perks, that’s just ridiculous.
Also, I too think it’s odd that latinos love to literally wave their heritage around in the US (specifically when I visit my native SoCal). You’d think they’d be living in their own country if they loved it so much.
the problem here is that police can’t just go around asking people to ID themselves without proper cause and this doesn’t just affect minorities, it affects everyone living in arizona. anyway people in chicago have started boycotting arizona as well.
I’m on the fence when it comes to resolution of the immigration issue, but posts like these are laughably ridiculous:
When I worked both of those jobs I didn’t see a single immigrant and they still got done. Hmmm. I guess that means immigration laws will never work since immigrants are now invisible.
Stop with this bullshit fairytale. The thing that drives illegal immigrants being a significant part of the labor force is illegal labor rates, not a lack of labor in itself.
No mexican is crossing the border looking for handouts. Do people really think it’s easy getting over here? HEY THE US IS RIGHT OVER THERE LETS DO IT. Nope doesn’t work like that. You try walking three days in the desert through drug trafficking routes and those wannabe militia bitches and see how much you like it.
And what is wrong with being proud of your heritage? You may as well tell ALL minorities/ethnic groups to eat a dick. “Sorry sir, you cannot be proud to be black.” Sure buddy good luck with that.
MEXEDIT
I’m not making this shit into a fairytale, but I’m sure as fuck not gonna let punk ass marks get a freebie into talking shit about my people because this government hasn’t done anything to really prevent illegal immigration.
We really should be looking at those who corporations that hire the illegal help in the first place. So in that case I agree with you, but I don’t really see that changing.
This issue is just too convoluted and spun, it’s hard for me to make much of a judgment on it anymore. Sure, illegal immigrants cost state governments money in schools and healthcare, but they also fill a lot of entry level jobs that help our economy. Does anyone know the net affect? I doubt it. And there are cases of illegal immigrants stealing, or killing, but so do citizens.
What really makes these issues tough to resolve is the red herrings of “people against illegal immigrants are racist” or “illegal immigrants should love our country instead of their home country.” Those just provoke emotional responses and doesn’t address anything pragmatic.
You can’t say that none of them are doing it. That’s as stupid as saying that illegal immigrants aren’t coming here to traffic drugs (some are, not many, but you can’t deny that it is happening).
And even if they’re not looking for a handout, you can’t deny the fact that they’re still getting them, whether it’s subsidized housing, medical treatment or schooling.
One of the main thing is that it doesn’t just affect I.I., it affects legal immigrants too.
From NY times: “allow the authorities to demand proof of legal entry into the United States from anyone suspected of being in the country illegally”
So on paper, the police or w/e government department can just ask for ID of him/her just because one doesn’t look white or ‘local enough’ . If the person is white? I doubt the police can touch him.
Cubans swim through shark infested waters and get u-turned all the time. Chinese sell themselves and go through human trafficking and often never set foot on American soil. Many immigrants have dangerous methods of arriving in the U.S., and they’re still turned away. Europeans who simply take a trip via plane apply for citizenship, get denied and sent home. What makes you think Mexicans should be treated differently?
EDIT: The don’t fly your flag shit is retarded. As long as people are waving confederate flags, people should be able to represent whatever they want. You can be American and not give up regard for your home country. Lots of immigrants still have family there.
we need a better path to citizenship and we need to crack down on corporations hiring illegals for illegal wages. Immigrants need to become documented for the safety of themselves and citizens alike, and they won’t do that with threats of deportation. Our social safety net (what pitiful excuse we have for one omg socialism11!11) only works if we all pay into it.
“No mexican is crossing the border looking for handouts. Do people really think it’s easy getting over here? HEY THE US IS RIGHT OVER THERE LETS DO IT. Nope doesn’t work like that. What does this mean? Its hard work getting here which leads me to believe that its worth coming here. On the other hand I do like the notion of getting a free pass on some illegal activity as long as it was difficult. Something tells me while trek may be difficult, I bet its totally doable.
And again you don’t seem to get the whole nationality thing. In this thread specifically someone asked why they don’t fly both flags. That’s the point idiot, both flags. We tend to want the people within the borders to want to be part of the country.
Also getting paid under the table, and undercutting the norm of pay both count as handouts in my book. As does using the benefits that we give to our poor.
I don’t. I was wondering what the the hardships they endured had to do with it.
Benefits I agree with, but getting paid under the table is silly. In most cases, they’re working for less than minimum wage. if they were allowed to work legally (you can argue why they aren’t, but that’s not the immediate crux of this argument) they’d be making more money with taxes being taken out. They’re giving up money because they have to. They don’t really have an option other than “work for what I give you or get sent home.”
Ok, I should’ve clarified on the difficulty of getting into the US illegally, but that doesn’t make it anymore right. When you get down to it, it really is a kick in the nuts to everyone who migrated into the US legally, not counting the tons of other ramifications long and short term illegal immigration has on this or any other country.
As for heritage, I have nothing against being proud of where you came from. I do get a little erked when I see people refusing to do a pledge of allegiance, learn english or something similar because it’s “not my culture lol”. If I moved to a different country, I’d think I’d do it knowing full well I would have to integrate with their culture and not the other way around.
