@Sugami: Endless mode is far better but I’m going to fight through the loses, laggers/cheaters, and random players. Endless mode is good but without playing offline, I feel like ranked mode is the best way to learn to deal with the pressure.
@freetgy: haven’t seen you here in a bit. You (and the rest of the guys on here should pop in Fergus’ IRC sometime).
On topic: Random doesn’t seem to work for me lol. Block and punish is viable I guess; need to work on defense (unless the guy is lagging me out).
But ranked mode really is a cesspool. I should have taken my licks in Vanilla/Super.
I think I’m the worst Sakura player. I’m still waiting on my arcade stick, so for now I’m stuck with the xbox controller and keyboard mashing. Keyboard mashing works well against other noobs, but my defence is non-existent against people who can play well that way, whereas with the controller I’m alright at blocking and getting away from attacks, but suck at pulling off combos.
I hope I’ll get better when the stick comes, win % is around 25% currently ~.~
Just practice I dont use an arcade stick, I use a PS2 controller. I tried to learn the stick guess I just don’t got the patience but I can hit all my links most of the time so it’s all good. Just live in the training room…
I can’t use my PS2 controller cause of the issue with the game not recognising most devices. Stuck with the xbox pad until they get the patch out. I managed to win 5 in a row yesterday though with the keyboard. That’s my biggest winning streak so far. I still suck though.
Ok I normally only break out Sakura in endless, but today I said it’s time I get her to C+ rank. I immediately went on the worst losing streak I’ve experienced since the first time I brought out Makoto to ranked in SSF4. I was losing to everyone and everything. I’ve never gotten so close to throwing my stick then when this Ryu kept sweeping me on my wakeup. I thought to myself there’s no way he’s going to do it a fourth time in a row, but damn it he did. If that wasn’t enough to piss me off there was this Oni that kept using that cross up slash move and I got hit by everytime even though I knew it was coming.
I don’t know why I was playing Sakura so bad today, my PP went from around 1400 to around 500. It took me all day to get most of those points back with Makoto. I’m pissed I didn’t reach my goal, but tomorrow I’ll give it another shot, toady just wasn’t my day for Sakura.
Glad to read these and see I’m not the only one. It seems when I face someone higher skilled than me I put up a good fight. Do I always win? Of course not, but I don’t do anything stupid and play a sound game. I’ve been playing against the number 1 ranked Blanka on psn for a while. My first match against him was a complete wash, he double perfected me. Our last match I lost by a cunt hair. He messaged me asking how is it possible my Sakura is at such a low rank when he actually said she’s pretty scary. All I could tell him was that I’m not consistent. It seems I lose to mash reversals…even when I think, no they can’t reversal again…BOOM! Just like blacksonic mentioned about the sweep thing.
Augh god damnit I get hit by every single normal and my opponents always zone the fuck out of me and I feel completely helpless basically from start to finish of a match. The only reason I ever win fights is when my opponent just fucks up majorly and I get a free combo in. I’m trying really hard to understand this whole footsie thing but it’s just not coming to me yet. : I I just don’t understand how I’m constantly under so much pressure from my opponents. I don’t think I ever feel in control of the game unless I’m playing a 0PP ryu that can’t hadoken consistently. Even at like 1600PP or whatever, I feel like I’m never outplaying anyone I beat, just getting lucky ;p
Just got beat by a terrible Guile that constantly jumped back, various people who kept throwing out shit that was way unsafe, and a Cammy that hit me with TWO wake up ultras.
Most annoying was a fight against a Yun. I was up 1-0, with a pixel of life left. Hit him with an ultra, went to try to bait out up kicks and he did it, but I somehow managed to friggin jump back on accident. He did exactly what I wanted him to, and I got hit by it. Who does that?
Anyone know why when im applying block string pressure lk lp ect. on the opponents wake up they can beat me if they start jabbing as well? Am I not timing it correctly? Or is standing over the opponent and trying strings a bad idea?
I wouldn’t do it. You should try to force mistakes or if you feel confident do a jump over mix up. But I wouldn’t just try strings on an opponents wake up (In cincinnati at our arcade when we do that and get punished you always hear someone yell “He got Greedy!” lol). I use to have the bad habit of trying to close out a match with the overhead if I knew it would kill on their wake up. That usually ended with me getting a wake up Ultra .
if you time it right you’ll beat them if they’re mashing jab or teching, in some cases I think it’s good to do that rather than go in the air, especially on characters that you can’t safe jump, since they have less time to decide whether or not to wake up with a reversal, and being that c.lk is a 8 frame recovery move, if you time it right you’ll be safe from a good number of ultras. doing meaty lk tatsu is sometimes a good idea too. works great on fuerte’s ex run and gouken’s ex parry because of the shattering, and it’ll actually hop over a few wake-up ultras.
Another thing I like to do is when I knock em down after a shoryu or any type of mixup (this is usually in the later rounds of the fight and when the momentum is in my favor). I’ll neutral jump then as I come down do a cr.lk cr.lp cr.hp either Hp Shoryu or Ex Tatsu depending on my mood. Try these ideas. Between me and nobusiness you should have an idea of where to go from here…
