Just to preface this, I’m not making a joke, it’s more of something I’ve wondered for a bit.
It seems like in the last 1.5-2 years there’s been a pretty big increase of homeless/supposedly homeless folks around Nashville. I see them on pretty much every interstate exit around the city selling papers and some just have signs asking for cash. Some are young, some are older, but there seem to be more of them than I ever remember, more than i rememeber seeing when I lived in Atlanta even.
Are there a lot of homeless folks in the places y’all live in or is it more of a nashville thing? Just asking, and yes I am being serious. Thanks.
IMO, I feel like it has increased here in Tampa, FL.
There are a lot more visible panhandlers standing on medians/intersections.
In some parking lots, I’ve been asked for money a couple of times in relatively clean/safe shopping plazas.
Here in Nashville they sell papers, and it seems like there are always folks selling them around any interchange or exit. Some don’t even sell the papers, they’re just panhandling
If they are in their twenties reading a book, they are hipster trash pretending to be homeless. So yeah, seen an increase in the number of those :looney:
mental health services have come a long way and welfare does a lot more for the homeless than they used to, so part of it is just that the really irresponsible fools who would die in a cold ditch are getting repeatedly bailed out with taxpayer money.
Also from NY, tons more homeless here than before. Used to be something rare to see several decades ago but now they’re almost everywhere and it’s not the same ones either, every time it’s someone different. It’s funny how people say that women have it harder than men but all the homeless people I see are men.
What about you guys, what’s the ratio of homeless men to women that you see?
Women are usually more security minded unless they’re on drugs or something which is why I imagine you don’t see as many women on the streets. Plus I think it’s probably easier for a woman to find some guy to take her in if she doesn’t have family than the other way around.
Less homeless people nowadays in Austin compared to 10-15 years ago. From what I understand, rich people moving in from out of town (cough California) eventually complained enough to kick them out somewhere. When Obama came to visit, they arrested all the bums near his hotel a week prior.
