Are lag generators common?

Glad I’m not the only one who watches his videos and comes out laughing at his idiocy every time.
Just don’t forget that “OMFG you beat me with your scrubby ultra” I recall him saying to one of his friends in one of his videos.

in my experience, when you start getting lag in the middle of a match, it is almost always a family member downloading something in the other room, either your family or theirs.

Another possibility.
If the opponent uses Turbo function of his controller and/or starts mashing the network traffic is getting higher what could cause lag, too.

Lag cheats might be around… heck, I’ve seen simple programs for this myself on-line. But to attribute 5-ping games that end up laggy, and in particular, stutter, to lag switching et cetera, is pure ignorance.

The fact of the matter is - and I might add, you’d have to be pretty obtuse not to have cottoned on to this by now - is that 5-ping games are THEE most erratic connections in ‘IV’ on-line. Most all the problems I have occur in 5-ping games. Sure, the input lag is near non-existent. But it’s the stuttery nature of the connection that makes these bouts sorta pointless from the point of view of someone who likes to accomplish something a little more neuro-taxing than spamming c.MK > Hado (…) SRK > Ultra.

Put it down to the crappy net-code - whatever. But 5-ping games are shite in ‘IV’. Not ‘Spam Calibur Floor shite’, but shite in its own right.

For a better indication of how SMOOTH a given bout might turn out, look for the the 'Ready ’ indicator in the pre-match lobby as you find an opponent and how quickly it becomes illuminated. I find this method far more consistent a way to know whether a bout will suffer ‘combo breaking’ stutter.
The input lag might still play a part, especially in 1-ping games. But ‘lag’ per se is acclimitable, sorta hones one’s timing, and either way, is something that is part and parcel with on-line gaming.

I’m sorry, in reply to everyone saying it would effect both sides equally? Aren’t there a number of videos demonstrating these being used in GTA4 online and other games which show this simply isn’t the case?

if its true then it will lag on both ends so its a even situation

I noticed yesterday that whenever this one gen would jump in the game would slow down when his hands came out.

but to my knowledge gta4 online doesn’t run p2p.

the lag will happen on both ends, but that doesn’t mean it affects both people the same, if for instance someone is just trying to time you out and all of a sudden it’s so laggy that you can’t react to a fireball… well who has the advantage?

 1. Wireless Connection.
 2. Person in house using PC to watch videos on youtube or surfing the internet when person on console is playing.

These 2 examples are prime factors in laggy matches.

I have hardly ever encountered anything suspicious but some characters can whore laggy situations.

Blanka.

I still don’t get the wireless hate I see on this board. Are we talking like solar flares and stuff?

That’s pretty hilarious.

My friend who plays on PC complains about:
[] people turning the graphics up to max on their netbook and running the game at 10 fps, lagging and then complaining about the lag like it’s not their fault
[
] sometimes when the opponent has a microphone, it’ll lag hard whenever they try to talk
If that’s true then those are two fairly easy ways to control lag. I don’t really believe many people have built themselves contraptions for generating lag on XBL or PSN.

Most people have serious problems gaming over wireless. That’s just how it goes.

Obviously a wireless connection can be optimized for gaming, but usually it’s crap because the person using it is too far away from the hub, there’s a router/hardware problem, or it’s not configured correctly.

i never went wireless on my ps3 before.

I was playing a lag-induced match against a gief. can grab me everytime i get up and i could not do a THING.

Even if you’re lagging, so long as you hold Up before you stand and don’t release it, he con’t grab you.

There is a LOT more suspicious lag in G1 compared to G2. I ran into a Sagat in the finals. He wins a round, I win a round then all of a sudden, bam. So much lag I can’t even block a tiger shot.
It shouldn’t be so hard to recognize that someone’s connection is fluctuating wildly. Game devs need to figure something out; as a new gamer, this shit is ruining online gaming for me.

Take it easy. Online gaming is just fun and no real competition. There’s nothing to ruin if u see it like that.
And those with laggy connections are a minority (here).

@worm: There is no wireless hate. It’s pretty comfortable and has it’s eligibility.
But for online gaming there cable-connection is still the more reliable option. There might be a higher ping or simply ping fluctuations with wireless. And this little “might” is enough for most people to use cable-connection.

I had my first experience with bad lag yesterday. I wasn’t able to shoryuken out of a wake up. It’s a no brainer offline, but online it was impossible.

seems like it was beneficial

i was playing in sg yesterday and i accept a match with nouryu, i think he is a french guile player.
we always have 1 bar so the connection was pretty slow, but there was also some kind of problem with my connection and we were getting choppy lag.
he beats me in round 1 and he is beating me in round 2 when the connection drops.
he sends me a message calling me a cheater and saying that he was streaming the match and everyone saw me cheat.
then i get a message from one of the people watching his stream asking me why i cheat.
i think people need to stop being paranoid about droppers and laggers.
most of the time it isnt intentional.
even if it is intentional, that kind of person has an orgasm when you get pissed off about it.
just let it go.
