Well shit  eh, either way I’ll get it sooner or later
I cannot even imagine the sense of relief and accomplishment I’m gonna get when I can throw my middle finger up to Ono for beating this crap fair and square lol
About the Birdie’s though, yeah I thought it was kinda weird how they laid it out with him coming or so many times together, especially with that GIANT skill (if you can call a cpu that) increase from when you first see him. He’s a mega scrub at first but actually becomes pretty darn threatening towards the end
Normally I quite enjoy survival modes however the amount of time you spend in loading screens in this game is ridiculous. In Dead or Alive you can clear 100 battles in half an hour, in this game you’re lucky to do 30 in the same amount of time which is what makes failing just before you unlock the colour so incredibly frustrating. It also works really poorly with being queued for online games since the queue pauses at every cinematic/load screen.
Not sure anyone was actually suggesting the order of the characters was random at all. I already knew that it wasn’t anyway from writing them down. I’d also take the difficulty with a grain of salt. On Hard 1-10 feel almost exactly the same, with the only spike really happening at Cammy (but she’s super easy to beat once you learn what she walks into with your specific character) and Chun Li. After that, sure, you might actually get hit once or twice, but it’s mostly the same again until the next Cammy or Chun Li. The first noticeable spike happens at 27 (Cammy), and then again at 30 (Vega), then drops off again until level 41 usually, although 39 Rashid can sometimes “wake up”. Thing is, 41 - 42 feel significantly different than 43, 44, 45 and 46.
The most painful part of it all for me is that now in tournaments, people are FORCED to use color 1 and 2 because god knows nobody will get any of these colors in tournament setups. The days of identifying with a color are gone. Red Yun, white chun, red chun, yellow Ryu, etc. Now you just gotta pick the first two colors. Making the colors DLC won’t change this, unfortunately
i don’t remember SFII, Alpha, or SFIII having locked colors. there should be a default amount like 6 colors, then a lot more if you do some grind fest like SFIV or whatever. it’s a losing battle to defend the way they did it in V.
Street Fighter II was close to $80 at launch, I don’t want to unlock the secret fight against Akuma it should just be there that’s my expectation.
Fact of the matter is, players in the old generation had to grind against the CPU as well. While we don’t quite agree with Capcom’s decision this is the path they’ve chosen and we’re just gonna have to suck it up and beat it legit whether we like it or not.
SFII had a code to unlock picking the same character in VS mode, there was nothing you could unlock by playing the CPU. There was 2 colors (the original arcade game only had one).
SFIITurbo had a code to unlock the maximum speed, Turbo 10. Characters had 3 different colors, the original and the alternate color and the alternate was different for CE and HF version. There was nothing you could unlock by playing the CPU
SSFII was the first game to add another mode against the CPU, Time Attack. But there was no unlockable content. Characters came with 8 colors from the start, one for each of the six buttons plus one for Start and another one if you hold any of the buttons for a few seconds, just like the arcade version. And that was it
As far as I remember, the first game I played with true unlockable content was Dead or Alive on the Sega Saturn / PS1: you could unlock more costumes by doing the Trials (combos). That was the sole reason I did all of them, to get that bikini for Leifang. But that only relied on your dexterity and skill, there was no stupid input-reading CPU involved.
This way of color unlocking is also bad for a viewer perspective. You really want your streamed tournaments to be played with the same basic colors 'cause the TOs couldn’t face the hassle of unlocking every color on each setup?
Managed to beat medium but it was very close… I dont think I wanna do that with other characters and the thought of doing that with every costume… blech! its too much of a grind fest…
Pretty sure he’s talking about both. All I said was that I didn’t know of anyone thinking that the character order was random. Well, and that I’d also not put too much stock in the difficulty being exactly “fixed” because it clearly has ON/OFF syndrome, even in the higher levels.
I’ve unlocked everyone on easy and normal, but hard is just a pain. I’ve got to 32 with Zangief and 35 with Chun Li and thats it. Costume colors should be unlocked by various parameters, like for a specific amount of online wins altogether, OR if you won so and so many times against a higher ranked player (there is even an achievement for that), OR CPU grinding. Just some variety to make this system more flexible, and no one is forced to do something they don’t care for. To unlock colors the way it is just doesn’t feel like an achievement.
And to think you have to do that for every new costume they release…
Will completely take away from the happiness you get when a good costume comes out. You will be happy when you get it then frustrated trying to get the colors.
