Nah, we understand. We just think it’s dumb. Colors don’t change how you play. Stages don’t change how you play. Locking either behind superficial difficulty is stupid either way.
Again, this is NOT what I’m talking about …
I feel like Im repeating myself over and over but ok, here we go again:
Survival Mode sucks, yes. It is horribly flawed. It’s random generated powerups at the end of each stage is a horrible idea and the CPU/AI jumps from difficulty 10 down to 2 just to go back up to 7… it’s like that is RNG too. All of this is bad. we agree on this.
BUT what Im talking about and we apparently dont agree on is:
If colours were locked behind trial mode, would people still go apeshit over this? I really dont believe so.
The only reason people go apeshit right now (as I see it) is because survival mode is so badly designed.
So why are we not talking about the real problem, which is survival mode, but instead bitch about colours being locked and how dumb that is…
Colours were locked in SF4 too, yet there were no 9 pages threads about that. Why? Because it was easy as fuck and you’d probably eventually get all colours without even trying.
Capcom tried to implement it in a more challenging/“active” way and even though survival may have been a nice idea, the way the mode was implemented they just overshot it by a mile.
And just as a side note, people on this board (and probably on other boards too) bitch how there is not enough singleplayer content, yet we complain about having to unlock stuff (I dont care if it’s colour or titles or whatever). But what exactly would make you play singleplayer modes in a fighting game if there were no locked content?
/golfclap. You could have started with this, instead of posting essentially “it’s fine” over and over again, then claiming to be misunderstood. There were actually replies already about how them being locked “in general” is kind of stupid, but that at least with a trial mode, you learn something. That also is more of a question of player skill, instead of this RNG fuckfest.
Err, speak for yourself. While the majority of the combos weren’t actually optimal/BnB material, it did give the player a general idea of what the character could do, if they were going in completely blind to the game. It also showed the player the timings of 1f - 2f links. So yeah, it did actually teach things to the vast majority of people who played the game.
Of course it is, but I really hope this mode pissed a lot of people off to the point that they still don’t purchase them out of spite.
Game companies need to learn to stop fucking with its fanbase with little stuff like this. Games have been prematurely killed before by fans because of nonsense, bad decisions and crossing the line too much… like SFxT. SFV’s release is too close to the back-end of SFxT’s flop and USF4’s bad ps4 port to be making poor decisions this early in its lifespan.
In my opinion, they could make each difficulty (easy, normal, hard, hell) only 10 fights at the appropriate difficulty level. Maybe 20 fights for Hell.
This is more rewarding and much better given that we have to do it for each costume.
Colors shouldn’t be locked because I paid 60 bucks for this game and I don’t want to unlock them. They should just be there. That’s my expectation.
There needs to be a reason for it to be locked content, not the other way around. The fact that survival mode is such a pile of shit is icing on the poop cake.
When the default in most games, established for years, is “colors are unlocked by default” anything besides that is a concious decision to waste my time. I don’t like having my time wasted. I’ll remember things like this next time I’m considering buying a Capcom product.
Calling survival single player content is an I insult to single player content.
Also its not just that the colors are locked, it’s that the colors for each costume are locked that’s horseshit, add to that that survival is a terrible mode aND you get the outrage, even if it was via trials that would be terrible.
Yes it’s too much of a grind, but i’ve stopped playing SF5 already, the lag and waiting times are to bad, plus the game is too incomplete and just bad. I can do better things with my time then grind for colors or wait for a long duration only to get teleporting opponents, in a broken game that’s fallen off the sales charts already.
At least give players more than two colors by default if all of them have to be unlocked via this tedious and mostly unproductive (for players looking to git gud) game mode.
It’s clear that Capcom rushed SF5 out, but I think in an ideal world survival mode would’ve given a costume, not colors since it’s meant to be for bragging rights. Colors can be bragging rights too, but given that we used to get them for free it doesn’t feel like a great grind.
Some may want to call players “entitled” or whatever for wanting free colors, but in any industry when you start charging for things that used to be free and/or taken for granted, you will see backlash.
While I do agree to some extent about the status symbol thing. You statement is wrong. You literally have to figure out the AI and beat it and that endeavor in and of itself will actually make you worse as a player once you go online. The idea to unlock colors this way is stupid and should’ve been executed some other way.
How about "I’m bringing my PS4 and SF5 to a convention gaming room to run a fun tournament, but everyone only gets 2 colors…
That’s what I’m worried about. I want to present the best possible option as I promote SF5 locally… and I get 2 colors to show people.
I don’t actually mind the content being locked. I like journeys of unlocking content. What I really don’t like is survival mode being just… insane.
Like the guy above said - unlocking 5 characters took 4 hours of just cut scenes and load time… Not even fight time. **** dude, if I have to spend 4 hours doing something it better net me more than a ****ing alt-color…
I’m still playing through easy and normal on all of the characters (I play 1 per session, and don’t play every day) but I’ve been trying Mika since day 1, she’s my main in real games. When I finish a survival grind with her to try and finish hard, I play so stupid it winds be back about 500 lp of brain power :\
I really don’t mind locked content - but I do mind survival mode, a LOT. I mind vs cpu options on fighting games period because they are all like this. SF4 was like this, SFex+A was like this, KI arcade mode is like this, so is MK. An AI in a fighting game are always like this, and a player should never have to clear those modes. Fighting games are about 1) challenge such as combo challenges, and 2) challenge such as vs PLAYERS. These are the only modes that should matter.
This isn’t a knock at casuals either, it’s a reality check for the genre. Fighting an AI doesn’t just fail to prepare you for fighting against players, it actually prepares you to fail against real players…
For me it is 100% the game mode, and really I think most people here agree with that. Sure people whine about back in the day when an arcade cabinet had all the colors available at the touch of a button from the start (but I mean like… you can’t have unlockeable content realistically on an arcade cabinet so I don’t think that’s a valid argument), but what most people here are really saying isn’t that “colors are hard to get” it’s that “survival is BS to have as a barrier to unlockable content.” Even if it was a skin, I think we’d see the same outrage.
The only thing Survival should have locked behind it is a title that says “DAMN you spent a lot of time on that didn’t you?” or like “sho-sho-sho-shoryuken!!”
Good luck at 47…
I’ve been getting up to 42 regularly for the last week, and that’s usually where the AI decides to start reading inputs. Make it past that and it’s easy again until 47, where everything gets counter hit or blocked.
Also, what is up with the Birdie order in this game? It’s nonsense. Shows up once or twice, then at 34, 43, 46.
