Has anyone tried these in other colours of buttons, well, specifically smoke PS-14-KNs? Are the LEDs bright enough so that they still have shininess to them or does it dull them to look horrible?
I know clear will give the least light resistance, but I want to fully assess my options before buying my lovely buttons and designing my art
Now that I have asked this, I am curious as to what kind of effects could be achieved with “proper colour” buttons with different LED colours. Like, would blue buttons make nice effects if the LEDs changed from green to red or purple?
(so many possibilities, it makes me smile and gives me a headache at the same time)
very nice…are you going with the white solder mask for the final like v1? i remember you mentioning during the development of the original you decided to go with the white solder mask because of the the light was reflecting of the pcb inside the buttons being noticeable…but i will say this that black or whatever dark ass color that is, looks very very nice especially with the white silkscreen and it matches sparky pwm oh yeah capcom font for the purplearms looks so official! and man thas quite an engineering feat you there, i thought the v1 boards were packed tightly, wow you’ve really out done yourself this time. im sold.
Great job! The pin headers are a superb addition to arc eyes (I only hope that they’re not round headers as they tend to become loose after some time). Unfortunately, I will need only 1 piece - I changed the board layout to the hit-box layout with 9/10 buttons being 24mm… Currently I’m thinking whether a board with only smd leds and pin headers would fit into smaller buttons - if not, I will need to fit a drill hole for O5 led into the button.
I would think that any other color than clear would make the light a little less bright. Theres a careful balance here… If they are too bright, it will kill the life of the LED, would be too bright to the point of distraction in a dark environment, and raise some power consumption issues (microprocessor wise, usb consumption wise).
Sparky PWM will allow you to achieve almost any color you want directly without needing to mix a color led with a colored button… If you are industrious enough, i will have a limited number of unpopulated boards, which you can populate with your own resistors (to give you higher brightness) and to install your own white-only LEDs to use in colored buttons…
Well as arceye2 design is currently, for 24mm, i would have to change to a smaller size LED, and it would be more difficult to route… i’ll have to see how sales of 30mm goes first before i can even consider 24mm…
The pins are round, but they are long and fit snugly… i’m still on the lookout for a last minute replacement <.< >.>
Yeah it fits pretty snug… the only issue is that round pins are very easy to bend (they’re not as strong as regular square pins)… but square pins wont fit due to the plastic carrier piece and are more expensive anyways… but it is possible to use them, if you carefully pull the black plastic carrier piece off… the factory wont do that, and i certainly wont do that for so many arc eyes…
but if it still concerns you, i will offer a choice to people of DIY pins, or pre-installed round pins… the pins are easy to solder… its the smt stuff that was a bitch, but thats all being done by factory
the easiest way to accomplish this is to insert the male header, shortside from the bottom (the black retainer will be on the bottom side) and solder form the top. Applying some heat to the plastic retainer allows you to slip it off easily.
as per the 24mm button… …i would recommend stepping down to a 4plcc package. digikey carries them
you kno thas what she said? lol sorry i couldnt help it
so as i am i understanding it, the pin headers are or are similar to swiss pin headers like the ones found on sparkfun?
something like these:
?
those swiss round pins are modeled after the ones found on the sparkfun site…of course those are female, but can be switched to male in a flick of a wrist
ya its kind of like a swiss pin header…i may yet do regular pin headers… costs a bit more but is stronger… there is a way that works with the current design… i’m going to do one more round of prototype i think, but this shouldn’t affect the release date i think…
again, nice render. don’t forget that the render is ArcEye1.5, AE2 are 4 pins on one end, 3 on the other for the daisy chaining.
Shin, i wanna start seeing these renders with solder on them LOL anyway, impressive renders
thanx you guys! i am really hard at work on this arc set, i kno these are the 1.2s or 1.5 the same ones i have at home. i posted these quickies as to compare the pins being used. as we all kno the arc have a special place in my heart, so ive been giving this a lil extra love and attention… so things are taking longer…im a lil fustrated because the font used for the purplearms is slightly different that the one that purps used, the one i have doesnt seem to have caps in it, and searched for hours online, and all the ones i find there are are the same. i already had to go back and model a different type of plcc6 rgb led, because the first one didnt fit the foot print. i derived the traces and the silk screen from pictures and much observation of an arc under magnification with my third hand tool. measured the pcb thickness with calipers. while the model is done and i have a first set of renders done, im working on 2 more sets, one showing a different led configuration (3x0805 leds) and the others showing these babies lit up as realistically as possible because im dialing in all luminious values based off of the spec sheets. believe me i spend a lot of intimate time working these and it seriously gives me nothing but respect for you guys (purps and 32teeth) when it comes to the engineering of these boards.
yeah i can definitely model in solder joints for everything easily too, but the only reason i havent is to cut down on rendering time. @ 1920x1200 and 300ppi these are averaging about 1hour to 1hour 45 mins each. but ill make it happen for when i do pwm rev2, before that i gotta finish these and do the renders for the tekcase which was actually the first thing i really modeled, its done, i just gotta set up the materials, import the scene and render out. pwm 2 will a snap, then im taking a break from pcbs and start modeling siemi PS-15-KNs, so then ill have a case to put the pcbs in and buttons to put the arcs in.
really looking forward to doing the arcs2 when they launch, but only if its ok with purps
^^^^ purps how can i say no to a free set of 2.0s? i’d gladdy pay for the shipping. but really i just do this for the love it of all, i was never looking for profit or freebees. i can send the full res renders for you to do anything you want with them. more importantly is been a great learning experience, as working on all the sets has greatly helped refine my techniques and i have learned new ones in the process, i feel each set gets better and better. also this will help my design decisions when i start work on my own pcb of a completely different nature. in the end i plan to have my entire custom completely rendered before its done, because it will help me figure the spacing and wiring, also give me pretty accurate dimensions for cutting the lengths of the wires when making my harnesses so everything comes out nice and tidy. it also gives me a chance to see how things will turn out before i actually commit to it and make my changes before i even touch the soldering iron. for example i did some draft renders with actual lighting produced from the leds with information the data sheets, and i was able to see how the lighting changes with the configuration of plcc6 rgb vs 3x0805 (r,g,uv colors respectively). in a couple of days i will be able to show you exactly what i am talking about lol.
but yeah if you can send the font you used that will be great, and i can update that layer let us kno what type of pins you will settle on and i will update. i have .1 pitch square pin headers that ive frequently been using for my models.
ok enough rambling for now, got my collectors edition mvc3 purps you gonna get involved with the madness that is mvc3? man i just hope ssf4 online doesnt go completely dead, because i am still working on my last achievement…
