Solder is going to be the more reliable connection 99% of the time unless you don’t know how to solder.
Dick the Screw Terminals.
No one in J&J uses them ever.
We do not use, or we sometimes just remove them.
Especially in Super Wiring, we remove Screw Terminals.
Allows us to solder how we want to make design.
Super cleaner look too.
I think I only used them once on ChImp SMD.
Because I do not like doubling wires onto single solder point.
We also, or at least I do, remove any Headers and Header Pins on PCB not needed.
Like seen in the two TEK-Cases posted in this Thread.
Allows better soldering and freedom for wire design.
it just kind of looks silly to see them right there completely unused is all. No need to get hostile here
@SavingPrincess, I think screw terminals are reliable enough for the application. We use a few of them on our nuclear grade and seismically qualified instrumentation panels here at work and I only wish we had enough of them for the 10,000+ solder points I’m in the process of doing.
trust me, james is never hostile
unless you reeaaaaaaally get on his nerves
then he just stops replying
laugh
The last time he left, the place was in disarray and chaos. I think he really only came back during the secret santa and has been with us since.
There really isn’t a problem with screw terminals, especially if you plan for a more modular type build or plan on upgrading the pcb in a custom sometime in the future or if you just want cool centipedes over your pcb like I do.
It may just be me but I feel that screw terminals aren’t used w/ respect to padhackingsince the wires move so often when adjusting the mod and finding the right placement.
Also james, in that hori pcb, do i spy where the 0 ohm resistor bridge on that pcb?
I never bothered looking for it since I don’t have much modding time constraints as you do.
Time to experiment with my spare VX board!~
that is when this tax exam is over
Don’t mind James, he occasionally goes into scary cat lady mode.
I don’t think nuclear grade seismically qualified instrumentation panels could withstand the abuse of an enraged 14 year old boy who just lost to a skilled fireball zoner for the 4th time in a row.
What I usually find with Screw Terminals, is that they’re only as good as the people screwing them in. Sometimes you can get a seemingly good grip with them, only to have the wire slip out without noticing. Solder is a lot harder to not see a good connection point. To each his own. I use the screw terminals for quick jobs if they’re available or I know I’m going to be messing with the guts of a stick a lot, but for the stuff I am never going to touch again, solder is the way to go (in my opinion).
Bah! Fuck screw posts…
My Post was hostile?
Was it because I typed Dick?
I type Dick for a lot of things with no meaning to.
I like the Dick is why.
Laugh.
I think you are hostile for thinking that I am hostile.
But if I’m thinking you are hostile for thinking I’m hostile, then am I now hostile?
Who is really hostile now; one who thinks the other is hostile, or the other who thinks the hostile is being hostile?
In the HRAP VX SA application, the Screw Terminals are not seen.
The whole ChImp SMD is not seen, because it is under the HORI PCB.
Since the ChImp SMD is not visible, then no one knows the Screw Terminals are not used.
To a person who does not know and cannot see the Screw Terminals not used, is it silly still?
Most people who ask for Dual Mod is just that.
They are people who will never see the work.
Because they just play games, not mod.
There is reason for the Screw Terminals and USB Jack not removed in this situation.
The Screw Terminals space the ChImp SMD and HORI PCB evenly.
The two Capacitor on ChImp SMD and one Capacitor on HORI PCB is not enough to balance.
Yes, I really only came back for Secret Santa 2011.
And was going to leave after that.
But then I have the J&J for Tech Talk Contest right now too.
So I’ll leave after that?
But then Summer Break is nearing.
So when can I really leave?
Yes, I did the 0 Ohm Resistor trick on HORI PCB like I do on Mad Catz PCB.
You can do on PCB of HORI Fighting Stick VX also.
The Fighting Stick VX just has 90° pins is all.
Same PCB, just different entry angles.
Are you a 14 Years?
Is that why you make so many Threads?
I have not seen someone make so many Threads as you.
meh, no hard feelings. I just meant silly as in “look at that guy wearing two hats!” silly, not like “why are you so dumb?” silly. You know, the kind of silly most of you guys/gals will call me when I post the wiring solution I took for my custom. . .
Now I’m silly for thinking your silly was other silly.
And silly for the silly hostile.
Laugh.
Wearing two hats is weird though.
I am tempted to run with this quote out of context
I won’t though
I don’t mind.
It is funny.
Laugh.
Heh, I wish, double that and then some. I make threads to get questions answered… maybe you should say “I have not seen someone with so many questions.” I promise I won’t make a thread unless I have a question. Does my question asking/thread making bother you? Are you bothered by people wanting to know things they don’t know already? Isn’t asking questions a sign of humility instead of arrogance thinking someone knows everything? Is my question asking/thread making going to make you leave again? Thank you for your answers. You seem to not like to answer, but seem to answer a lot. Very confusing. I don’t know why someone would take so much time to answer when they seem to not like to answer. Thank you for answering though. You help a lot of people… I’m sorry if you don’t like helping people, but you are good at it. I have learned a lot from this thread, and you and Kuya. Hopefully one day I will know as much as you, so I can come answer questions and hate it as well. =)
He likes helping people (at least I think so)
He just answers the same questions over and over again
And there was this 14 year old before who kept asking questions if i remember right.
Anyways, same questions got so bad that on his computer there are files with pre-written answers to questions that have been asked dozens of times already by people who don’t search.
That’s how bad it got before
I don’t think he’s given you any of them so its okay.
James is a cool guy, so is Joe. I don’t know what the other james is doing but he’s somewhere modding
And i just realized that someone asked about that vlx RGB
Its not neated up at the buttons but its clean enough with the daisy chain
I have it back again since the guy wanted the other 2 buttons working too so I’ll go ahead and retake a shot once I’ve cleaned up wiring
This was the old shot

Is there a preset answer for “daisy chain.” lol. i have no idea what it is, but everytime i see someone with a stick and they say its daisy chained it looks clean as hell. at least compared to mine.
I also just ordered some tech flex. i hope i got the right one lol. i want to get this shit right for evo!
Daisy-chain is dirty to me.
Individual Signal and Ground is cleaner.
But here you go, preset answer.
Daisy-chain your Ground for the Joystick and Buttons.
http://slagcoin.com/joystick/pcb_wiring.html#SPLICING_AND_CHAINING
Daisy-chain.
They are talking about the ground… Instead of having multiple wires for ground…since it’s a common ground set up… You can link all the ground signals together and solder to just one point on the pcb…reduces the clutter of wires needed to mod… Remember that each button needs one signal line and one ground…so the daisy chain is just for the ground

Ok… Whoa…
(after my initial reaction)
Well if that’s the case then i’ll find some other way suppose i can use as many wires as I want once I get the tech flex. Also:
did you write that LMAO wth? Yo if everyone on SRK or in the world who wanted to Mod read that one page before posting anything there would be, like 5 threads talking about modding on Tech Talk, and 4 of those would be mofos showing off. Man good stuff! Bookmarked, printed out from work, and its time to study. I’ll be back when my shit looks pimptastical.

We try to tell everyone to read slagcoin before they attempt anything.
Before I started modding I went through slagcoin for 3 months, practiced padhacking on a useless intec gamecube pad and figured out how to identify and group common line signals and drew up plans before i built my stick. In fact, the only problem I had was the fact that I had recycled a shitty USB A head to connect it to my neutrik. Once I had replaced that, then I had my first stick up and running. I was still nuts about keeping my wiring clean though~

No! Don’t leave. I still need more training.
