Arcade Legends Ranking Battles - Fairfield, OH July 11, 18, 25

Another advantage is you don’t have to go looking for people as much. Just have everybody for each pool there, and then the pool that’s on deck or whatever, and it just seems easier that way.

I would do top 8 or 4 bracket style personally, but RR would work fine for that too.

WOOT can’t wait. I’ll be in the sf4 one fo sho

It seems like the bracket for top 8 is the standard.

What is the importance of initial pools, if we are just gonna switch back to the “bad” way.

Not trying to be critical, just curious.

How would you guys feel about having an evening money tournament each Saturday night after the ranbats are run? We could do the same games as the afternoon ranbats or maybe do the next weeks games. Is that too much tournament action for one day?

I just emailed you about this very subject, lol. I think tourneys each Saturday night would be a great idea. I personally would roll with different games from the ranbats so people don’t get burnt out. Others may prefer to keep on going with the same games. This could leave some people out in the dust though. Imagine if a person can’t make a ranbat and the paid entry tourney for their game is the same day; not very convenient for them.

The only other thing I’ll say is that while weekly Saturday night fighting game tourneys would be great for our scene, you should also (as I’m sure you already are) plan for tourneys with Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, etc… That way you keep on drawing in a variety of people.

Let’s see what happens! This sounds like too much fun.

I don’t think I could commit every Saturday for a tournament, but that sounds like a good idea.

I certainly wouldn’t expect everyone to stay every week. That would be some real dedication to their craft. I guess we’ll try it out a couple times and see what happens

I would be up for a tourny on the sf4 days (I’f you’re still considering that)

My main concern is the ranbat but why not get my dollars back as well?

Money tournies in the evening to complement the ranbats would be great and would give some incentive for out of towners to show up.

I’m just down for the experience. Hopefully we get some round robins in so everyone has a chance to play eveyone…well broken up if there are too many damn people.

awesome

I really want to go to GG/BB one, but I won’t be able to make it until probably about 6. Why is it so early again?

So they can have regular paid entry tourneys later at night.

Boo. I guess it’s a little late to get into this. But in that case, why not have all the ranbats the same day, or at least more of them, and then have tournaments on a tournament day? In other words, why not have days for ranbats and days for tournaments? Or, why are the ranbats early and the tournaments late? Just arbitrarily?

Oh yeah. Also, are the tournaments for the same games as the ranbats or what? Where is that info posted?

I was just thinking about this and I think every Sat night is too much for fighting tournies. I am planning a new tourney for August 1st so I was thinking either the first or second week’s Ranbat (July 11th or 18th) we have an evening tournament. You guys would definitely get you moneys worth on the entry fee. I think playing different games than the afternoon would be best. Not many people put their opinions in on that. What do you all say? Same games? Different? Or same games plus a couple more?

I don’t care but I have a small amount of games I would be confident to put money on (like most people). So if you do different games the turnout will be up to chance.

I’m in the camp which argues for different games in the evening. With that in mind I personally would like to see an evening tourney on July 18th. BB and GG would run in the afternoon, and then SFIV and 3S could be the paid entry tourneys. You might also consider throwing in one actual arcade game like Puzzle Fighter (which you suggested in the Cincy thread). I’d enter that for sure  But KOF 98 or Darkstalkers would work too, just depends on what people want. Count my vote for Puzzle Fighter.

The August 1 tourney should be held on the ranbat week off. That way it can start earlier and have more games going (I’m pretty sure you already thought of this). In that case, since you promised Kam SC4, I think BB, SFIV, and SSBB would make good additional tourneys that would bring the people in. Adding a fifth tourney is uncharted water, but could possibly work out. HDR, 3S, or perhaps Marvel (by then it should be out on PS3), would be good.

I have no problem helping with brackets too. Unfortunately I like to play in almost everything, so I could possibly go insane. Just have to get me a laptop with tio installed and we’re golden. I could update match results while playing Puzzle Fighter, lol. And I could wear a shirt that says STAFF. I’ve always wanted to do that . . .

I liked how it was set up, myself. It’s really hard to put an entry fee to a specific game without making it seem like that game is somehow “lesser”. Example: people might not appreciate $10 SFIV entry compared to $5 3S.

That said, I think that for tourney days where more than two games are being played, all games should have $5 entry fee on top of $10 to get into the arcade. Four tourneys on any one day may be the limit for awhile, and that keeps things at a round $30 for the whole day.

One days where there is anything less than four games (such as the potential tourney on July 11th or 18th, and any other ranbat day), I think $10 per game is reasonable unless the game is something more for pure funsies (like KOF98, MKII, etc.).

I really don’t see the problem with having ranbat days for ranbats. If you’re trying to squeeze a tournament in every month, I guess it becomes necessary at some point though. If the games are still popular though, why not leave them in all day and just have casuals for the rest of the day? Or have more ranbats with the main events in the evening? There are some games we’re still not covering. Also, I really want to go to BB/GG day, but can’t make it until probably 6, so I’m kind of pushing my own selfish agenda.

As far as tournament pricing, you’ll find that what happens is that when the pot gets small, less people are able to justify traveling. You’ll probably have the people that are there entering more tournaments, but might have less people show up total. This is only my guess though, but I would only lower it to 5$ for games that are considered “side tournaments” or something.

Yeah, the main games people will travel for should prob be kept to $10. SFIV; Marvel (will be small crowd either way but it’s still played serious by travelers); SF:HD; Tekken if T6 console is popular.

3s might be turning into a $5 game, hard to say. You can try a $10 one and see how it goes. BB/KoF $5 cos it’s new and encourages people to try it. MKII $5 since almost no one plays it super seriously. Hyper Fighting $5 maybe sometime.

You guys think about doing pinball side tournies? No brackets needed, just overall top scores on a table?

Allow me to vote again for NBA Jam/Hangtime/Showtime if you guys can nab one. sflegend and I played some last night on MAME and it’s too hype still, so fun.

Jesse I’m all for another tourney there. Ranbats can continue for the local scene, but as an out of towner I think I’d rather just come for a day of tournaments. On the other hand Arcade Legends is sweet so I’ll probably try to make it there whenever I can regardless of what’s going on there.

If you are going to do Aug 1st, you might want to post soon to gain interest and to avoid any overlap of other tournaments.
