That’s like talking about lottery numbers after you see the results rather than before. Where were you then? Maybe she’ll raise to S after this SBO and because of it, but she was not S before.
Lot’s of games are boring when you have 0 knowledge about them and don’t understand the tactics and decisions being made.
But maybe I’d care about your criticism if you bothered to actually learn the system, watch more than just one tournament, and only then form a more educated opinion.
How is this any different than talking to someone who’s only Tekken 6 knowledge constitutes of happening to watch EVO2011 top 8 and forms his view on the game based on just that?
Brainless considering she has to work hard to get in on the good zoners (unlike Touka and Morgan), can’t punish with supers on reaction from half screen (unlike Touka and Morgan), doesn’t have instant overheads or any really great mixups w/o sacrificing the assist instead of saving it for the combo (unlike Touka and Morgan)?
I don’t know about working hard to get in, but an assist can cover her (Satsuki bullet). She has a superjump to get in and a hop for mixup and a divekick for good measure. She has good damage off 2A or overhead. She can pin down opponents with 2A to staggers and assists. Then she can hop over people for mixup. She has an amazing anti-air that could combo into huge damage and mixup.
Touka definitely doesn’t zone (a fucking sword!). Morgan doesn’t zone (she has limited quilt so every arrow counts). Both of them have great mixups though.
I never said they zone, just that they have it easier when it comes to getting close to characters like Riannon and staying there. (Again mentioning their supers)
Also hops as a mixups tool are nothing compared to Toukas overhead special which is a fast pure 50/50 that nets you big damage on both options. (Not to mention Touka even has a hop as well, so every credit you give Konomi for that, Touka gets it too)
About the assist- IIRC in SBO you could not switch between assists, but had to stick with the same one you registered with. So while Riannon for example uses genei jin 90% of the time anyway, as Konomi you either had to compromise on either a “help me get in” assist or a combo assist like Mizuki.
Edit: Also SBO had 7 Toukas 6 Riannons and 7 Konomis.
So yes an army of Konomis but only 2 Riannons and 1 Touka in top 8 was unexpected.
Konomi certainly has her good things though. The important thing about Konomi’s hop is that she can hit front, crossup or divekick or low. She’s a versatile character much like Touka because they have good tools to get in and to protect themselves (B+C and shoryuken!). Both characters can easily overwhelm opponents up close. They are nearly complete characters without assists and assists only enhance them.
I do not deny Touka is top, but her hop isn’t used for mixing up and wrecking house. It’s floaty and she doesn’t have a crossup with it.
At least those characters are more than just 2AAA into random bs. Konomi kinda just represents nearly everything wrong with anime fighters in one character.
LOL did you guys see Floe’s twitter? “Aqua pizza is like the worst game ive ever seen and this is coming from someone who’s played sf the movie and svc:chaos”. I don’t get it, I don’t play this game but from what I have seen it’s not that terrible of a game.
Dude I’ve been playing anime games before that retarded term existed and I’m really not excited for this at all. I’ve probably played a game like this several times already from a past Comiket without even realizing it. Game is just horribly generic and not all that exciting.
Hecatom just ignore people saying “oh i hate this game”, “it’s boring” just because they saw a bunch of konomi mirrors. Tekken 6 can be awesome when you have a godlike Alisa player vs an amazingly good Eddy Gordo player, and likewise, it’s boring when half of a top 8 at a major tourney consists of Bob. It’s similar to that. Any game where more than half of a top 8 is the same character means people will get bored watching that character. Simple as that. If the top 8 was like, one of each character, it would have been way more exciting imo.
And that’s people talking about just watching it. If they’ve never played it, then their opinion on how it plays is null.
Floe said “I’ve played bad games, therefore from WATCHING this game, I’ve decided that it plays bad based on some videos at SBO.”
TLDR - Tougeki matches may have been boring, but at least try the game before you say “this game sucks”
Just rather lackluster really. I mean I don’t hate either, and I’m sure I’d play it given the chance, but really just by going by videos its not entirely all that exciting either. There’s not much personality to the game. I hope you understand what I’m saying, I’m not openly dismissing the game, I just can’t find anything to pull me in and keep me there.
i totally agree with you on that, though in this case i was only pointing that floe has not played the game, so his opinion is just based on how boring the game looks for him, that is why i said that certainly the game could be look boring, but that doesnt mean that is a bad game, or as he say, that its a terrible game
im totally with you on that, perhaps the game could be fun when you play it but outside of some chars playstyle and/or some matchups it certainly doesnt seem to be fun to watch (wich is the only thing that we can do right now), kinda like ssf4
Learning about the system (and the characters) makes it more interesting since you start to see the tactics and understand the decisions being made.
For example how the mood system plays a huge role in the flow of the match.
To someone with little to no knowledge of this game or anime games in general, it makes a lot of sense that this would seem boring compared to, say, Melty Blood or BlazBlue. They exactly didn’t go out of their way with the whole “WTF! Let’s stab their eyeballs with crazy!” flashiness you would see in most other anime fighters, and that’s really all the average spectator wants to see.
Personally I think the game looks really creative and fun. It doesn’t look boring at all to me and is something different from the usual ABC animu fighter.
Serious question. Why do Japanese arcade videos (GG, KoF13, Melty, etc) almost always *look like ass? *
Yes, I am thankful that there are even videos to watch since there used to be nothing of the sort, but it’s a question I’ve had for a long time. I don’t know much about the technical aspects of it so I originally thought it was just because it was from the arcade, but then I saw Dreamcancel’s HQ KoF13 videos which look great. It’s Japan, the technology has to be there. So, why is that?
