Anything I should know beforehand about Doom?

I have tried the missles but I not a big fan of them unless it’s with Morrigan because I can fly away to keep Doom relatively safe, rocks are more my speed. They’re like the Poor man’s or Dictators Gustaff Fire, plus I don’t feel cheap when using it.

Before Ultimate comes out you might want to try out Dorm for your team. Him plus missles, flame, carpet, liberation, purification, dark hole, and teleport shenanigans makes for some crazy opportunites.

That sounds like a really good idea. I liked Dormammu but I could not get him to work with Viper. Ive been using Trish(Low Voltage), Viper(Thunder Knuckle), Dr. Doom(Missiles). The reason I used Trish was because I started to see most people would play thier heavy rush down character first and I believe Trish is really good against rush down so she would be there to kill the point character and then Viper/Doom would go to clean up. I think Doom has the necessary tools to be a good anchor. And I would use Trish for round harvest setups. Usally Trish ends up being my anchor if she isnt killed right away.

Btw who do you use third for your Viper/Doom team

Depends on my opponent, if they’re heavy rushdown or all around I use Dante (BUSINESS) for unblockable and extra damage with the Jam Session assist. If the opponent is keep away oriented I’ll chose Taskmaster or Wesker. Taskmaster to out spam them plus he’s one of my mains so he’s a BUSINESS character, and Wesker (BUSINESS) if I’m really pissed and want to kill them quickly.
So it can go:
C.Viper/Dante/Doom
C.Viper/Task/Doom
Wesker/C.Viper/Doom
About 75% of the time it’s Dante

Yes, that can work since advancing guard just keeps them at the corner. I love Round Harvest.

i am also trying to learn doom, however i cant bucktooth loop, nor can i mags rom loop, i have stupid fingers is it still worth playing doom or should i drop him in favor of another character? is the bucktooth essentially a necessity? ty for your help

I’ve been playing Doom since day one of Vanilla and I still can’t do the bucktooth loop, so don’t feel to bad about that one.

In my eyes, as long as you understand what Doom CAN do, you’ll be fine. make good use of his projectiles and learn at least his BnB’s.

I would say so. My fingers are probably more stupid than yours and I can do it pretty consistently, but it did take me a while. So definitely hang in there to try and learn it… you will eventually get it.

The Buktooth loop is, at least in my limited understanding, the essence of Doom’s tools. Dash-cancelling normals is pretty big to his game, at least how I play him. And that’s really the most difficult part of the Buktooth loop, I believe.

yea that’s the part I have trouble with… I can do the air dashes easy, it’s catching them with jM that’s the hard part for me

I’ll say this about buktooth. In training I can do it perfectly, in online matches I drop it 80% of the time. But then again I always use him as anchor so that XFC3, I can kill them with some randomness.

I’ve finally begun hitting the Buktooth after having Doom as anchor for 4 months. I think there are two keys to hitting it consisitently:

  1. Practice doing the loop from various openings. For example, before I play online I do all of the following with Doom:

a) Square Air Dash :m:
b) Tri-Dash cr.:l:
c) Air Photon Shot, ADDF, :m:
d) Dorm Hole Assist + Foot Dive Over Opponent (Really broke cross-up but it works online a lot probably because no one can even conceive of it), then dash and continue combo
e) Jumping :m:
f) Jumping :s:
g) Foot Dive to Airdash mixups

This way, you’ll be trained to more methodically hit confirm and go into the loop as opposed to scrambling your fingers to try and hit it. It took me about 3 months to actually start hitting consisitently in matches, but practicing it from all the openings definitely helped

  1. Learn to identify when the Loop is breaking down

For example, a lot of times, I don’t bring the opponent low enough for the second crouching chain into re-launch, but instead I’ll just do Hard Kick ( :f: + :h: ) to compensate. Hell sometimes, I don’t even bring 'em low enough for the first re-launch and will just do hard-kick each time. This way, I may not get as many hits in, but I won’t drop the combo instead. I’m not a very good player (at all) but at least I can hit it fairly consistently. For example, here at 5:05 (Currently re-tooling everything in Ultimate but keeping Doom). I’m player MRay

Also, really focus on the proper height the opponent is supposed to be for each step of the loop, a lot of times, I spent so much time focusing on my button inputs that I completely forgot to make sure the opponent was at the right height for the combo.

not the hardest execution character there is but for the pay off he’s pretty easy

Doom is not for people with hamburger hands but if you grind his execution enough in training mode you’ll have his combos ready eventually. His movement is actually harder to learn than his combos IMO.

Doom is the Best Character in the Game IMO. As in, best designed, well balanced, no random cheesy gimmicks, just raw Power.

I got like 3 variations of Doom, with Beam Asssist. Beam Assist is so good because people always want to punish you after strings and they forget you have the best beam in the game. Assist for combo extensions is overrated. Doom doesn’t need help killing people.

Spidey/Morrigan/Doom is one Team - MaxSpider into Astral Projection cancel combos, or Sphere Flame.
Hulk/Morrigan/Doom another. - Hulk needs Beam to get in. Morrigan Dragon Punch Super into Gamma Crush.
Morrigan/Doom/Phoenix when I’m cheesed. But I tend to go for Lvl 2 XF Dark Phoenix, because Doom is too Beast, and doesnt need meter.

Hardest part about doom is definitely his movement. I’ve been playing him sicne day 1 vanilla and I can do buktooths and things of the sort fine but the problem is moving around to get an opening.
