The reason you don’t understand is that your playstyle is limited. It’s entirely based on turtling… placing the maximum distance between yourself and the opposition and throwing out fireballs or long range limb attacks and then simple one move punishes when the opposition tries to get in… and if that doesn’t work, ya spam teleports to surprise, and then move away as fast as possible and repeat the cycle.
At the arcades I’ve played at over the years, this playstyle would get ya beat up… lol
Have ya ever thought of sliding under your opponents fireball/boom? what about something like jump over a fireball, drill kick, slide… a little innovation, throw some different stuff out there… change up the spacing and make the other guy uncomfortable. Link some moves together and go on the offensive once in a while.
I think ya seriously need to go to the dhalsim forums and do some research on how to play him… it looks to me like you’re obsessed with BP and think that’s an indicator of skill. Better yet… switch up your main to someone like Fei Long or Rufus… someone without a fireball, that is forced to mix it up close and use combos to win. Once you’re forced to use combos, you’ll understand what we’re talking about.
Also, notice that in the matches you lost that you posted above, it was because the opposition out-turtled ya. They recognized that ya had no idea how to get in and do damage if you’re behind in a match. All they had to do was sit back, wait for the inevitable teleport, and punish.
Yeah that’s some good advice, I do need to work on more mid range and close-in attacks. I’ve tried the fireball slides, although most of the time when I go under a fireball I either hit the fireball on the slide, or the long slide recovery on the heavy slide slides me right into something of theirs after the fireball…that’s not to say fast closing attacks can’t be effective as dhalsim, and I don’t actually use the dashes for anything or about 2/3rds of the moves, but the moves I have work pretty good and it’s hard to pick up new tricks that are effective! That being said some dude messaged me last night that saw my movies and mained dhalsim, we played about 15 rounds together and he was really good, countered all the teleports with BOTH the knee or the uppercut depending on how high up I was when I teleported, however the big thing I noticed was that if I focused really intently I did okay but had a score disadvantage, in that I got hit a bit more than I did the hitting. If I got frustrated or tried to plan ahead too much, I’d start getting hit with the bigger moves and the back/forth fireball tricks…the way I did best seemed to just be playing ‘naturally’ and watching him and doing the usual while jiggling the controller rapidly, however I’m pretty sure I picked up some new tricks from playing that 3500bp dhalsim a bunch, and look forward to doing it again. After I played my first series with that guy I did a championship match, previously except once it hasn’t found any games for me in quick search, however that time it found a game and I won! I did notice the person I played was much more focused than the average ranked match player, and they seemed about as focused as that 3500 dhalsim. On a side note, how does championship mode work? It says I’m in some sort of G-2 semifinals, do I just hit the championship->quick search button occasionally and look for matches and try to win or is there something else I should do?
I uninstalled GFWL, then reinstalled. Now the game loads but the Live interface is missing.
There isn’t much comp left on vanilla anyway. I guess I’m done playing SFIV till they release Super on PC.
My friend managed to get around that, I’ll have to ask him about it and post it here or something
Either way I still play from time to time, it’d be cool if we could organize a little get-together or something, maybe a half-assed tournament of sorts…
I’m smurfouestrumfe on LIVE . I play sometimes. I’m a casual player who install…unistall…install…unistall sf 4 several times and i’m a noob. Most of the time i play with gouken because i like the char. I’m Portuguese
aersixb9 , try wegame to make your videos, is very light
delete the save game in my documents. Your position in championship and points in ranked match remain. you loose everything you unlock but u could use a trainer for that ( if u dont want to unlock everything again…)
Hey there. I’m Duncan Frost on live, maining as El Fuerte. I’ve probably played some of you before and made you ragequit with my irritating mexican playstyle! Hit me up for a game or six any time, although I’m in Britain so you yanks might get a spot of lag.
If anyone in the UK (Or relatively close) fancy practicing against an aggressive Mediocre Balrog, feel free to hit me up - Play SF4 generally a few times a day so if I’m online you’ll see me cruising through Player Match Arcade Fight Rec so just jump in.
Sadly, even though competition is hard to find, I do have a habit of automatically leaving 2-3 bar connections - Don’t be offended
Come to think of it, might hop on now for a few matches.
With GFWL SF4 dying it’d be nice to compile a list of regular players, who they play and where they play from so that people could hunt them down for games (based on recommendation from the community) so if you know any solid players, feel free to add the to the list so we can all seek them out.
May help to keep a little blood flowing in the game.
I don’t know if this guy comes here or not, but I just finished a set with a really decent Gouken, one named “Bottlecapsis”. Guy went offline before he was able to receive my GFWL message, however I’m sure he’ll get it next time he’s online. Nevertheless, in case he does hang around these boards I just wanted to say GGs, big time!
We played around 33 matches with him dominating for the first two-thirds of the set before I managed to just barely catch up and finish it off at 17-16 my favour. He has his Gouken combos down to a “T” with incredibly tricky back-throw combos and mix-ups. I swear, every time he lands an EX Palm on me it’s like watching a motion picture because that’s how long they go for. If anyone runs into him, hit him up!
Blah its so hard to find anyone in ranked and player nowadays, I will see some green bar connections but many of them turn out to be newcomers to the game. You know, ones that try and figure out how to throw a fireball the entire match. Usually i just screw around with them. There are soooo many ryus/kens that I’ve come across and just see them throwing random punches across the screen. Today I fought a rog and i literally just held down back the entire match just srking his jump ins. Lol i felt kinda bad after because he was trying to figure out how to get in and i basically won the entire match just by sitting in one spot.
