Here are my two cents on this. There are three types of people playing SF5 right now.
1- Those who are playing it because that is where the money at and that is PERFECTLY FINE. I don’t know where is this notation that it is somehow dishonest or underhanded to defend or support something that you as a person make a profit from. I really don’t see what the issue here. It is called real life politics and it is stupid not to do so. I have seen this DSP trash talk on Machinima when he wasn’t with them and then proceeded to suck their dick when they sponsored him and that is FINE. It is logical, it makes sense. Most of the internet heroes right now, who will sheepishly attack/hate/bully something won’t even dare do that shit when it would have real life consequences on them. Angry Joe who is such an honest review didn’t reviewer SF5 because it would cause " conflict of interests " because he was doing a board game that had SF characters.
( I may not like the company that i am working at but on duty i will do my best to make it look good because it doing better is in my interest.)
2- People who are playing it, maybe because it is the Street Fighter game that has tournament relevance now. They may not love it but they are playing it because it is the game that is out there now.
3- Believe it or not. I know this might shock some people in here but there are some like me who actually genuinely like the game itself. I enjoy playing SF5. It has problems and i want them fixed but i play the game because i have fun doing so.
You getting bored playing something doesn’t mean that the others should be feeling the same way. I have been playing SF5 ( Beta and launch ) for about a year now and i still haven’t gotten bored and is looking forward to playing it every week.
I really don’t know why some people can’t simply understand that somethings aren’t for them. I don’t like MKX, I don’t like KOF14 that much. If you don’t like a game, be productive with your life and move on.
I was into SF4 and played it until AE came out then i hated it, got bored and moved on. I didn’t look back and check forums left and right to whine and complain about issues when i am not even playing the game.
I don’t care what Xian says, I don’t care what Daigo said, I don’t care what LTG or DSP said. I have a brain of own. If you can’t find enjoyment of something then leave it to those who do, instead of trying as hard as possible to ruin their experience left and right.
I’m having a pretty great time when I play SFV. With SFIV there were so many mechanics and execution barriers I could blame for me not doing well, but in SFV I can more easily accept that the fault in why I’m not winning is in the decisions I’m making rather than the moves I’m not doing. Unfortunately, Capcom has been building a reputation over the years as being a pariah in the FGC so that anything they do right is drowned out by whatever they do wrong. I thankfully dodged whatever rootkit bullet there was as I didn’t apply the update until this morning when the anti-crack was pulled, but this one is going to go down with Pay-to-Win Gems and DLC on-disk.
I guess it can be tough if you go to weeklies and take part in tournaments. Your friends/scene are playing the game you don’t like, but you want to be part of that scene, so you grudgingly play the game. In that case, I guess let your opinion be known, complain when complaints are due, and don’t take the game too seriously on a competitive level. Playing a game you dislike + taking it seriously = frustration.
But for people who are just playing the game online or watching streams, if you don’t like it… stop playing it. You were a big fan of the series all these years? So what? I used to be a huge Halo fan, played the shit out of Halo 1/2. When Halo: Reach came out, I dropped that game after literally 2 weeks because I thought it was bad. I didn’t spend the next year playing a game I didn’t like or complaining about the game on the internet, I played something else. Take a break from the series and come back when something you think is dope comes out.
edit: and not directing this at you DJ, obviously. I know you like the game lol.
Good shit on not being a follower and having a mind of your own, amrraed. Not enough people know how to think for themselves nowadays. Too many dickriders who just try to mimic the opinions of the “cool guys” instead.
Joey’s post was also solid. People can enjoy V without having Esports in mind. No idea why that’s so hard to comprehend.
The most interesting thing about the SF5 switchover is the amount of people that dropped 4 like a hot potato. A lot of oldheads and semi oldheads were wondering what new kids were gonna do when a new game came out and theirs wasnt the belle of the ball.
Yep, little scene for the game after the fact. ST and 3S players keep finding tech, SF4 players keep posting in this thread.
if I were to contribute my unasked 2 cents here it is.
Capcom proved it was willing to practice anti-consumer ideas back with SFXT with the locked content. The yearly SF4 updates with the balance changes proved capcom didn’t know or understand it’s own game. All the criticism surrounding SFV has been foreshadowed by the companies games for years already. If you like SFV then cool, but don’t act like like the probelms with SFV’s meta or its policies are suddenly brand new because it’s been around for quite some time.
In saying that it’s possible to still enjoy a game you know is flawed. I never liked SFV from the beta and I could tell this wasn’t a game for me. I now focus on Fightcade games and KOFXIV, it’s best to do something you enjoy then complain about something you don’t.
If you think 40 dollars a year for a hobby is too much, you are on some next level broke type of shit. Yeah it would’ve been nice to see certain versions go for 2 years, but that definitely wasn’t the worst thing that happened with 4.
Reasons for not liking it are known since forever.
Capcom is trash at handling a community, they don’t seem to care that much for SF and they pull some fucked up stuff on a regular basis. Then there is 8f of lag, etc…
Those have not changed since the game came out but people hold on to those really hard and it feels like they are waiting and hoping for some pro to trash talk the game so they can be like “SEE I told you, even XXX thinks that”.
Drop the game already if you hate it and stop waiting. I 've tried Guilty Gear, not a fan, you don’t see me being annoying as hell every day on their forums.
To be fair, if someone is an SF4 fan, it’s reasonable for them to expect SFV to appeal to them. I’d expect the same type of response from Guilty Gear fans who were disappointed with Xrd, or KOF fans who were disappointed with KOF14.
I pretty much seen a good chunk of DSP’s video from elsewhere but yes, I stated already that while DSP makes some good points, it’s for the wrong reasons(as someone else stated).
SFV is an absolute clunky mess with a company that honest to GOD seems deadset on burying it…at a time where they can’t afford that shit anymore. So many other fighting games is either stepping up their game, supporting their communities at tournaments or just plain and simple just being better at managing their games.
No matter how I see Capcom, they always. KEEP. FUCKING. UP! Even now with this Rootkit bullshit, you think people would finally have a clue and just tell Capcom to step off? Nope. Either people themselves are trying to keep it under wraps or are GLAD that it never went viral for some insane reason. This is honestly the type of thing that would KILL COMPANIES, not just the games.
In this way, DSP is right about how ridiculous the Capcom Fighting Game Community is towards anything and everything Street Fighter. rather than agree on how fucked up Capcom was to try and pull that shit to PC players in the first place, I’ve seen one too many actually DEFEND CAPCOM saying that it’s for the best because Hackers, Data-miners and otherwise was ruining the “game” for everyone else… as if that wasn’t the most ass-backwards logic I’ve ever seen(this isn’t all Capcom fans or SF fans, this is for the fanboys and shills).
Like seriously, you can’t defend bullshit like this. This one action has made the SFV PC version the worst port for the PC in terms of fighting games I’ve seen yet. Who the fuck thinks it’s a good idea to actually toss a rootkit for a fucking security measure…when you are on STEAM?
But even then, I can respect the dedication to SF for the fans who still stick to it but my god, there has to be a limit somewhere…
Pros have admitted to some of the issues we’ve been saying for a while. ‘right now the whole cast plays in a similar way in offence. Meaty , shimmy, throw frame trap’ and many have called it guess heavy too (Infiltration) lol. We’re waiting for the pros to say it because it isn’t just us casuals who see it that way. This can help improve the game…
On top of that, many offensive/defensive options. Fireball game being nerfed, super/or 1 bar - Alpha had multiple, III you could choose while also having multiple meters, 4 had super an ultra. With V it’s unlikely we’ll get a second super since they are already too good and V-triggers are pretty much the same. Most triggers are amazing eg Balrogs - you only need to hit confirm and you can net 450-500+ dmg with only one or 2 bars
The game isn’t the footsies masterpiece they’ve called it and they further limit the game via no unique neutral jump attacks and proximity normals. It’s like they’ve taken out a little bit (or a lot) from every aspect of the game and added little to compensate.
I’ve played on an off and gone through so many on my journey to gold. Karin, R.Mika, Nash, Balrog and now Urien’s (has a lot of options with his reflector, amazing normals, combo variety and reflector shenanigans) probably be my main to platinum - first though… survival for his colors
It’ll be interesting to see what season 2 brings.
On a side note, if anyone is interested I might get round to posting my music mod on here and reddit. Various music from KOF, Guilty, SF (III, Ex, SFV char trailer and Story mode, Classic remixes,) Tekken, Virtua Fighter, Kensei Sacred Fist, Fighting Layer, Streets of Rage, DOA. It’s tough with so much music to choose from lol. Gave up on a theme for Dhalsim and india stage (happy for recommendations) for now I just slapped on GG and KOF…Since well it’s GG and KOF ost
Where were you when Temco launched PC DoA5? It being a straight port of the PS3 version and having no online for three months. When it finally got online it was ranked only. I agree about the rootkit being absolute bullshit but it was a problem that was quickly addressed with no lasting damage. Temco still hasn’t fixed the problems with PC DoA5 and likely never will. They will gladly pump more DLC onto the platform.
It took 7-8 months too long for people to finally speak up though… that’s honestly way too long for a game that had these problems from the word go.
I’m not pretending that they are any better, so don’t use that logic on me. My point is that neither of them tried to toss around a rootkit as a SECURITY MEASURE. This was not a one man show, this was APPROVED BY CAPCOM THEMSELVES.
This is as anti-consumer as it gets when the worst that can happen is having your computer rendered INOPERABLE compared to losing $40-$60 dollars.
LOL, people probably got fired over this rootkit fiasco (like they should be)
Capcom to employee: so you got those security measures ready for the new patch?
Employee: yes sir just got it done yesterday
Capcom: good job, you’re going places.
(About a week later)
Capcom: so how are those security measures you installed working out? (Sips coffee)
Employee: GREAT! But people are complaining about the rootkit I attached with it for some reason.
Capcom: (spits out coffee) YOU DID WHAT? YOU ADDED A ROOTKIT?
Employee: it was for security…
Capcom: YOUR FIRED, GET OUT.
Employee: But I’m onos son!
Capcom: AND TAKE THAT FUCKING BLANKA DOLL WITH YOU.
I hope so. The less appealing possibility is that these decisions are being made by higher-ups who are too entrenched in their position to get fired. I think that’s quite possible given how many disastrous decisions Capcom has made recently.
So Xians basically nailed every problem I have with the game word for word which sort of makes me feel justified that I’m not just bitching for bitching sake.
The last part about not knowing why you lost is soooo on the money I can’t even explain. This is how I’ve felt for a long time. I mean a lot of the time I know why I lost, but actually figuring out what I should or shouldn’t have done instead is really tough because the answer always comes back the same - " I shouldn’t have pressed that" or “I should t have done that” it’s always something negative and not positive.
I never review my matches and think the other way " I should have done this" which gives me the impression that doing nothing for large portions of the match is the correct way to play this game - like how Daigo plays.
“Dull and not precise” again I’ve explained it as “hazy” or “clunky”.
I’m glad I read that paragraph if it was him that said it. Reinforces my thoughts about how you’re supposed to play.
I feel the issue is more that very few characters allow you to control what you’re doing in the neutral rather than that being an entire issue for the game. Characters like Cammy, Chun and Karin have the walk speed and buttons to dictate where they want to do and place things. If you’re playing characters with slower walk speeds and stubbier buttons, then yeah you’ll probably have more of that feeling.
I’ve only heard the argument from people who play stubby button characters or ones with slow walk speeds which generally makes sense.
If Season 2017 docks down the lag further and makes hit boxes so they are easier to whiff punish then you should have a more reactive game across the cast. Personally I had way more trouble wondering why I lost to El Fuerte or Seth in SFIV than anything that happens in V.
As a Chun player I disagree with the assertion that it’s walkspeed and buttons. But I agree that it’s a lack of control at neutral. Mostly.
Chun gave me small amounts of neutral control, but it was with like no damage unless I produced a doctorates thesis.
Now though I have Urien who gives me better neutral control than Chun (better fireballs and on par midrange pokes)
Along with way better damage via an easy mode CC and a stupid better v trigger.
So I get the best of all worlds with him and I largely don’t feel the “sf5ness” when using him. Even when losing I know what’s going and it doesn’t feel random. It feels out played or bad matchup, but not random.
With Chun it largely felt random because I was just mxi g up my buttons and couldn’t offensively walk forward and infinite priority fireball.
I lost the random aspect when I played Ryu or ken as I could always depend on the fireball to outprioritize everything, but that was boring. Now Urien does the same but with so many extra benefits… And has 1000 hp to boot.
