Anyone else not buying into the SFV hype?

To be honest, If Kof had a survival mode with difficulty that ramps up to an extreme near the end and you had to fight those ridiculous bosses…lol

I try not to buy into “hype” but I’ve gotten more enjoyment out of this game in the last 4 months than I ever did the last 4+ years of “Street Fightthegamesystemandyouropponent-er 4.” I can finally play Ryu at a competent level again. Praise Jeebus. I wish the hit boxes for the normals matched their animations but that’s been a thing since 4 so I’ve learned to grin and bear it.

SFV could be called Fightthegamesystemandyouropponent too. Whiff punishment is incredibly hard with the non existent hurt box of some normal’s, t-rex limbs (some characters footsies are a joke) and input lag.

AA is shocking and again with the damage potential risk and lag, it makes you second guess your decision. The fact that Jabs on many characters are the best AA is pretty sad.

Capcom is playing it really safe. Game is almost purely pressure and nothing else. Zoning, turtling, is almost non existent (unless you’re fighting Zangief,) just flowchart play. Set-ups are ridiculous guessing games (give us some reversals or alpha style rolling off the floor,) you play how Capcom wants you to play the game. Less is more, so characters lose special moves and supers. The game feels very homogeneous and takes away from the uniqueness they’ve given the characters in SFV.

Almost every character has no way to chip combo freely anymore. Since specials mostly aren’t safe. Even most fireballs…If your throwing fireballs when you’re balls deep that should be punished but…

Take Karin for example who apparently got a remake… Thing is she plays almost identical while losing a lot of moves and the style that made her unique. Her rekka poke style is gone, limited use instead (v-trigger, ) and thus, losing her fast chip damage on top of meter build up potential. She had 2 rekka’s with far more options, delays, frame traps and the second one having low profile potential.

She Also lost her High/low counters. Air grab, command grab. She lost all that just for a dash into tenko (Mujin Kyaku in alpha 3 juggled so it’s very similar) and Orochi. So all she has is sappo and orochi…They even nerfed her sappo (dash) so she can’t dash past people outside of an ex when they’re airborn crush countered while Ibuki can do it anytime.

She now only plays with her amazing neutral footsies game, punishes with stupid damage and that’s it. Everything else was taken away. She is now the same Karin with less; How is that a remake?

Juri, Ken, Bison, Vega etc… Mostly play different with a variety of different moves and properties in comparison to previous iterations. Karin is basically the same but lost a huge amount of moves for one (with 1 option since tenko has similar properties to a previous move…)

She was the only character to have that Geese Howard style counter play (what made Karin is gone now). SFV definitely is going for the less is more thing and playing how they want you to play

I get all of that. I do. Thing is, I play video games to have fun. This game, despite its problems, is fun. SF 4, not so much. The only thing that game has over this one is Sagat. Bring back the king Capcom.

Well, from my opinion. SF5 is actually fun to watch on high level competitive. So is it save to buy SF5 because of hype? I think not cause SF5 has still many problems regard to be call a good game. Lacking single player content (getting story mode recently is a good start), dull mechanic to unlock color, matchmaking issue, input lag and many more. Will Capcom fix all these stuff? Yes I bet but it takes time. As long the competitive scene is not dead, SF5 will still remain. And I will wait till next year to purchase it with nice discount sales

SF5 is boring to watch regardless of the level of competition, imo, but despite that, I think it’s a very safe buy. I play the game competitively in a strong offline scene so my experience may be better than yours. If all you’re trying to bank on is single player content and netplay, you’ll probably hate it.

Stop whining about the game if you’re still gonna play it. You think Capcom care as long as you’re playing?. I never bought the game nor have I ever entertained the thought. Why should I support a piece of garbage?. Anyway I’m interested in seeing how long the game will last. It’s early in it’s release but most people seem to hate it and are drifting off. I rarely see my psn friends playing it. And I believe a lot of people in my local community don’t play it. They have either stopped playing SF or they still play SFIV

Game is dead. We can move on with our lives

Now that ibuki is in the game, I like the game. I like Balrog as well. Game still has all the problems I mentioned… Just that ibuki doesn’t

I enjoy watching SFV even at non high level play, while in USFIV I only watched top 8’s of major tournaments (and even in some of those matches I still caught myself staring on the background instead on the actual fight). I think the game will keep improving as (if) the 8 frame lag thing gets fixed and the meta evolves. New mechanics can still appear and make things more varied. In the end will always have some people who dislike the game and that’s fine, it happens with every game.

I forgot a couple things to include in my list:
[] Punish rage quitters. Make them lose the max amount of points possible (like if a plat lost to a bronze) and make it an automatic loss that breaks any win streak they had. I ran into the same two rage quitters so many times today and it made me want to punch someone.
[
] Improve load times It feels too long for a modern game. At times it feels like I’m playing a PS1 game.
Also I change my mind about the crush counter hit thing. If anything, I think more special moves should leave you in crush-counterable ending lag if you whiff them. I think you should be vulnerable to be crush countered if you miss a command throw, for example. It’s kind of unfair that some characters never have to put themselves in the position where they can be crush countered for missing a special.

Lol I like the game. It’s fun if I don’t take it seriously. I just think that it’s very basic, and subsequently bland, in its core game play and that there are a lot of issues outside of its game play. And I’m decent at the game. I place much higher in tournaments in this game than I ever did in 4. I’ve probably earned all my money back by playing this game.

Idk man. The entire Capcup tournament last year was pretty hype.

Load Fighter 5.

I agree with your first two points. I disagree with the last one. Jump-ins, imo, should be crush countered. There is too much reward for jumping.

A whiffed command grab already takes a lot of punishment. Every character with a command grab is already weak in other aspects of their game, save for Necalli, Vega, and arguably Mika. So that nerf would mostly be affecting Laura, Birdie, Alex, and Gief, and I don’t think that’s fair or good balance.

SFIV = fightthesystemandyouropponent?

SF4 was not a game you could hear about, pick up, play and beat your friends all in the same day.
The game DID have complexities so that competent play was only the result of an extended period of practice.

Now given that, if you’re someone that’s saying the game was too hard, having played it and been apart of the community
then either you didn’t play it enough or you’re simply a terrible player
in either case your opinion of SF4 is worthless and you would do yourself a better service of expressing such opinions with more humility.

If you whiff a command grab you’re probably going to eat a jump in combo for at least 250 damage (meterless). It’s already a quarter of your life that’s gone because you guessed wrong…no need to add a crush counter on top of that

Besides the build in lag fixed, I’d just like to see more options for the online. Lobbies for ranked so I can select the connection and the ability to filter out by region, and search for same skill or more skilled, similar to SF4

You can already select the connection. There’s an option in the battle settings that allows you to see your opponent’s connection before accepting the request. If you want to be able to search and pick your opponent like ranked in SF4 that won’t happen. People abused that system to boost.

I’m sure a minority abused it but it’d be nice to have more options for the majority of us who might like some of those SF4 options back, idk. It’s just a little frustrating with how the online is at the moment, on top of possibly getting matched with some person who lags pretty bad. It has happened to me many times and its basically unplayable. I’d like those options to simply have more quality control I guess

Why is it OK to eat a full crush counter combo for a whiffed dragon punch but not for whiffing a command grab?

It’s still a better system than waiting for ten minutes in matchmaking just to get connected to a silver league player, imo. I’ve had some 5 bar connections play like 3 bar connections and vice versa. Similar thing happened to me in SF4. So for me to pick and choose would be an overall better option because I know who I can play online with on a smooth enough level. Sometimes if a match is too laggy, I’ll just quit out in the first round. The current system is not working for me.

People did abuse the system in 4. You could actually see some of those people’s replays of the boosting. But Capcom didn’t care enough to intervene so I don’t see why it should be an issue now.

I’m going to design a fighting game for all you ninjas calling for “tighter execution” for combos. My game is going to have 0.5 frame links and every time you drop a combo you lose 50 health. Would that be demanding enough for you?

Sorry I don’t have hours to “grind it out” in training mode to get one-frame links down 'cause I don’t think I should have to put that much time into a fucking VIDEO GAME. The arthritis doesn’t help either. Sorry I don’t like having my opponent be able to stand over me and execute an unblockable attack because I couldn’t get the reversal timing right. Sorry that I insulted your precious Street Fighter 4. Sorry that I don’t have more “humility” when expressing my OPINION about a fucking VIDEO GAME.

You telling someone they should be more humble. That’s fucking hilarious.
