Slow, vulnerable moves tend to have frame advantage. EX moves usually have better frame advantage than normal moves because they cost a bar.
Moves that are quick and have other good properties like range tend to be highly punishable. Sweeps are a perfect example. Most are 7 frames, good range, and are about -12 on block. Or look at Bison’s scissor kicks. They come out in 13/15/19 frames and are -4/-3/-2 on block. EX has 12 frame start up and is +1 on block because it costs a bar.
This game isn’t just about jabs, and that is great.
Honestly, you’re all over the place in this thread. Try to make up your mind and come out with something tangible you don’t like about the game, so we can discuss.
You think sfv’s balance is not ok. Good. Tell us why you think that. For now you’ve only written that “some characters” have safe pokes.
You said ryu in this game is shit. Why do you think he sucks? What is he lacking compared to the others? Also, I think tokido proved you wrong by bodying people left and right this weekend.
Then you brought up the 3s parry system, calling it the big leveler, but after a while you came to your senses and decided that what makes people win is player skill…oh really?
So that’s why Final Round almost broke fire code with its entrant numbers.

You realize that if you are converting more casuals to hardcore, then you are increasing the amount of people who would travel to tournaments right? It would make sense that tournament attendance is INCREASING with more hardcore players. If you were increasing casual players and not hardcore players, you would expect to see sales higher, but not tournament attendance.
I say this given the fact that SFV is selling less copies than SFIV.
This is totally opinion but my guess is that CAPCOM is probably of the belief that the casual market is tough to penetrate because there are just so many FG’s out there right now. When SFIV was released, there were barely any 2D options that were palatable. My guess is that the casual market is just shrinking in general, as everyone is trying to lower the barrier to entry for people.
Casuals are important no doubt, but with most people not having tons of time and money anymore, people are going to be more judicious about the games they buy. My guess is that the casual market is just shrinking over time. A lot of people are going to be reluctant to buy a fighting game for solo content these days when there are just so many other options.
If this was legitimately what Capcom was thinking with the release of this product they should go out of business tomorrow. That is how incompetent that line of thinking is as a business.
Not sure how you can claim the ‘casual’ market is declining over time when MKX is the best selling fighting game since Turbo (discounting smash4 which is the best selling fighting game of all time).
Don’t say the casual audience is shrinking, that isn’t even remotely true. The gaming industry has grown YoY for decades. ‘Casuals’ just don’t want to buy broken contentless products when better alternatives are available.
‘Casuals’ don’t have a lot of bought in nostalgia or obsession blinding them to the the fact that SFV is not worth 60 dollars. Capcom lost ‘casuals’ by releasing a bad product.
Also, fun note that while 1k people were playing at FR on Saturday steam had like 2500 people online. Its lowest mark yet.
Maybe you can’t read or maybe you think you’re just skilled at trolling or maybe you’re just trying to dodge a ft5 in either 3s or V after talking all this weak shit, but none the less it’s a waste of time going over shit to a person who can’t read.
I said more than pokes, so you have me confused with someone else.
I spoke on why ryu sucks in this game, so if you’re still confused, i think you have me confused with someone else. Tokido proved nothing wrong, because tokido got blown up on some matches for the same issues that ryu had, thus he stopped using the shit and made smarter decisions with ryu so he would not continue to lose. Daigo got blown up by lupe over dumb shit. (Rigged or not, the shit was dumb.)
it is a big leveler and player skill + ability to parry equalizes and brings a player up leagues over top tier shit compared to whatever the fuck is going on in V. So whatever you’re going on about sounds stupid.
once again you haven’t stated how it’s good, what makes it better, what proof you have to show the game has made leagues of improvement from it’s predecessor and took a ft5 (matches in a video game.) as a internet tough guy threat. Where does this bad joke end?
poetic justice came with reasons why he liked the game and you just jumped on his nuts and probably agreed but goddamn at least he has an opinion to express. What do you have? sounds like you’re quick to attack, but slow to express.
That…actually makes your point worse. SFIV overall made 9 million sales yet only when they get to EVO does SFIV start getting views that comes somewhat close to feeling like it’s peeling people off the game. By saying all of those people play SFV with the low sales it has, that honestly shows how much people care to WATCH IT more than PLAY IT.
This thread, in case you missed it, is about people who think the game is not good in some of its aspects. I like the game and I’m trying to understand why you don’t, but apparently it’s too hard for you to write it down. It’s not my job to make you like the game. If you don’t enjoy it, or rather hate it as you said, there’s the door. A reasonable person though, would just express his concerns in order to try to establish a discussion. I wrote it before and I’m writing it again: give some tangible examples of things you don’t like. Be specific.
About ryu. You said he has a lot of uphill matchups, while lots of other players think he’s really strong. Also, a ryu player - tokido - just got second place in one of the most stacked tournament we’ve seen in a while, after facing all sorts of matchups and players. That’s what I meant with “proved you wrong”. Overall the character is not even half as bad as you think he is. And please, do yourself a favor and knock it off with the lupe thing.
3s’ parry system is the ultimate game mechanic for a fighting game. It’s true that it should make every character viable…but that’s just in theory. In practice, 3s’ tournament history is full of chuns, yuns, kens, and some few others. When it mattered, people knew who to pick in order to win.
If I didn’t like this game, I wouldn’t play it period, in case you missed it.
So everything else you’re saying is assuming out of your ass, baseless, and you’re grabbing whatever you’ve been prodding in your ass all this time and trying to use it for whatever basis you don’t have.
So fuck up, keep the shit you’re spouting to yourself and bring out actual facts instead of trying to use some player as your proof on what’s actually bad about the game. Like you want to run around and say “OH TOKIDO. LET ME LICK HIS NUTS” but then in the same breath say “OH KNOCK IT OFF THAT DAIGO GOT BODIED” like if im a 3s fanboy, then you’re an asian nut hugger.
please keep it to yourself because you’re dodging the ft5s and everything else scrub.
If that’s what that actually means then you may be right. But it could also mean that people who are playing are more interested in the competitive scene than they were with SF4. And it makes sense that they would be with how the game was marketed as an esport-centric fighter. It’s all speculation right now, but I can tell you from my own experience that I enjoy playing more than watching. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to choose to play instead of watch events every time there is one. The pleasure I get from watching is different. I prefer chicken over fish, but that doesn’t mean I pick chicken over fish every time.
Sorry but all the hype turn-out for events has more to do with the efforts of the community and event-runners. Capcom has done FUCK ALL to actually create & market a game that will grow the player base (casual or competitive) with SFV. Quite the opposite really.
