Well i disagree with that. IV had more content than V in vanilla and while I agree that IV infinitely sucks more in comparison period, even ray charles could see IV came out with a better set up of stuff than V, but if you don’t see the difference, then I’m assuming presentation doesn’t matter to you as long as you enjoy barebones gameplay. (Which, even then, while better than IV, this game still has issues in at it’s V state.)
You’re always gonna have good and bad matchups, but it gets to become a BLARING issue where it becomes more about player matchup than player skill. Therein lies the problem and the reasoning behind why I ever even mentioned 3s in this in the first place other than besides the fact that it’s a part of the sf series. The parry system leveled the matchup playing field and made you able to really make it with any character as long as you had a good basis of how they worked in every matchup + what you could also gain and benefit from in the parry system.
I agree with your last statement of being better balanced and fundamentally better, but I disagree that it’s start off was better than IV and fundamentally a better game than 3s at this point unless the v meter system really becomes serious game changing shit.
Are you accounting that the 60K(and 80K) at the finals are people who never bought SFV yet and will do so? Yeah no, I don’t really believe that because you have to also account for those that already have SFV and want to watch the tournies, casuals that are either on the fence or not or simply put, those who have no interest in buying the game yet want to get “hype” from a good match. From there, you have to figure out how many will choose to buy the game then and have actual proof that there’s a swing in sales and not simply people making new IDs
You can support the overall FGC while not giving a shit about the games they play. I seriously do not care for Tekken but that won’t stop me from watching that to support the Tekken scene and I would do the same for the Virtua Fighter scene despite how terribly I would be playing that game.
And if that’s the goal, Capcom failed miserably, no doubts about that.
No casual who has no vested interest whatsoever in the FGC is suddenly going to be watching FR, any other tournament or even going to Youtube to figure out typical BnB combos and how to really play…
The parry system did not level any matchups in 3s. It actually made the top 3, the top 3 period. Sometimes you could of thrown Makoto in there but on a rare occasion.
Hell the parry system made the top 3 even more powerful compared to the rest of the cast. You really dont understand what you are talking about here.
Don’t get me wrong buds I want to like the game and for better or worse I’m continuing to grind it out in hopes that I’ll come around to it because I don’t want to lose the enjoyment of weekly locals etc
I think what Magus1234 made a remark about some players preferring the chaos of the new game while some prefer the game more when it’s “solved” and we know what really works rather than wonky day 1 stuff. I think I’m definitely in that latter camp so I’ll keep trying to see it through.
Today there were some exciting close matches for sure, but not for the same reasons as 3S or 4. When I watched Nando Mika vs Infiltration the crowd was going nuts but I look at that and think, it’s a true 50/50 vortex for Infiltration that he is caught in and his character has no options other than hold up or down back, rather than some godlike creative offense from the Mika.
Seeing FANG work was definitely the most exciting for me
yeah I cant seem to get into the game cause its too new. atm I’m playing extremely casually and watching tourneys pretty much… I wanted to play Chun-Li but sucks (too stupidly difficult BnBs and bad options) but now i’m not even gonna waste my time learning this character. Would’ve prefered if they had Rose int he game, gonna have to possibly wait 2-3 years just to play my main.
As a stream monster, I have a love-hate relationship with this game. At one moment, it gives the impression that just watching a single match I have already saw everything that can and will happen in it and lose interest. Some minutes later, some close game pressure happens, players’ personal strategy and struggle are shown and hype is restored. This keeps going on. Anyone else feeling like this?
I find the struggle and pressure more interesting than what might happen.
One random match in this game is much more gratifying to me than some of the hype moments of SF iv like when infiltration beat PR balrog with hakan.
Gamerbee playing adon or Elena is boring as fuck.
Fei long is Boring as fuck.
I would rather watch two intermediate players in SF v than watch some match ups in SF 4 like top level Balrog vs chun li in SF iv lol…it’s all the same shit…fireball…focus attack backlash…repeat…balrog jumps, gets standing fierce…
I’m not accounting for that in my original post, actually. That was a bit of a facetious post. It was more a reflection on the total sales of SFV rather than those watching already own the game. And believe me, after the NPD sales numbers came out, I’ve done a lot of research on current/historical sales/view figures for other FGs (several days worth) and personal theorizing (best and worst case) regarding how stream numbers would increase sales.
I’m not gonna do a brain-dump of all of that. All I will say is that if SFV was cheap to make and is cheap to maintain, and if that 2M was indeed complete nonsense, then incremental updates may sale for a nice little while, with stream numbers affecting that slightly
I’m not buying into it. Played a lot so far, but a month in and no fixes for intentional lagging, ragequit, and basically no balance patches? It’s 2016 and this shit shouldn’t happen for a major esports title. I’ve lost a lot of faith in Capcom. Meanwhile, Heroes of the Storm is getting weekly support from Blizzard and the devs are being transparent about changes and community feedback. Different genres, sure, but that’s irrelevant.
What do you want balanced? There is no need to start messing with the game balance, aside from removing option selects(which is coming in the next patch).
That is a great question, and I don’t have the answers. I’d like to see data on Capcom’s side related to winrates, matchups, and the effectiveness of abilities. They could then take this data and apply it to the title. It’s no different than the approach you see in mobas such as Heroes of the Storm. If a hero’s winrate is too high on their side, they take a hard look at reasons why and apply a fix…or don’t, as the data might not necessarily indicate issues in balance but rather in implementation. I’m just saying this kind of transparency would be great, as no game is perfectly balanced. Except Pong. Pong seems pretty balanced.
Capcom has made the assumption that if a game is tournament viable and competitive, it will bring casuals in. It brings legitimacy to street fighter being a high level and interesting enough game for people to devote their lives to. Hence they have tailored their marketing campaign to feature the fgc. That may have been a big mistake as you can see on Amazon and reviews, casuals don’t care about that, they care about arcade mode and costumes. Capcom probably should have known that tbh.
I agree they want casuals to become hardcore. It’s like a cigarette company, get people addicted and you have a customer for life. Mika and Laura are like crack to a fgc fiend.
They also made the assumption that everyone realises this is a new game and the content will be ramped up over the better part of a decade. You’re paying your $60 for that whole experience. In actuality no one actually makes a gaming decision like that. Not even many of the fgc. They assumed people wouldn’t compare to usf4. But they were playing that like 2 hours before putting this on. Lol.
You haven’t played enough new games before if you feel this way. The base game was made to be more simple, but that doesn’t mean people won’t find stuff. The reads will still be there and combos will still be dropped and people will still find tech.
Disagreed. Plenty of tourneys and gameplay out there from high level players that prove otherwise, but you focus too much on USA Ken, Chun and Yun players.
The top will always be the top in tier, but you saw more upsets in 3s than other SF games in my opinion. V is ruled out since it just came out and high level tourney play is still fresh.
