There lies the issue… wish they would outright just say what the deal is. Because if i need to buy a stick then i would need to make plans before hand. If not, even better since i can use my old one. The silence is what’s annoying. If there is driver support i’d probably buy a Madcats stick eventually, but if there is non, my money’s going to Hori because it’s obvious some shady business practice going on there. No stick support is why i didn’t buy Guilty Gear Xrd…and i’m sure i’m not the only one with the same mentality.
MKX also fucked up it’s implantation of the PS3 driver. It’s more trouble than it’s worth using a PS3 stick for that game. Who buys a new console and expect their accessories from the console predecessor to work? You should have been open to the possibility their would be no legacy support as that’s what’s common.
Buy a Hori PS4 stick that’s often on sale for $120, buy a PS3/PS4/PC solderless Fightboard, or buy the PS3/PS4/Xone/X360/PC solderless Universal Fightboard and put them in your current stick, or padhack if you like to solder.
I think you and the other people here defending this kind of business practice should check your moral compass. There is nothing wrong with making money whats important is how you make them.
You know war for oil, people killing and being killed for money and people starving because someone decided to reach too far in the honeypot.
Is that wrong or is it right because “A business has a strategy where the goal is to make as much money as they can”. Does having the said strategy and mindstate absolve them of moral misconduct? Lastly what is wrong with calling the said practice “scumbaggery” by people who are disgusted with the idea and line of thinking?
Capcom was very nice to include PS3 stick support for USF4 on PS4. SFV is a new product, its just not gonna happen. A decision like that would negatively impacts the economy involved in this industry. Capcom is a company on the verse of bankruptcy a few years ago because of bad business decisions. They wont be making those anymore and your analogy is terrible.
Did you really just compare Capcom not telling us if they are going to have PS3 stick support to people killing and being killed for oil? Do you realize how asinine that comparison is and how they are not even close to being the same thing?
I agree the analogy I gave is extreme but still based on reality and you can’t deny the similar way of thinking which plagues big businesses and corporations the result of which is less than agreeable.
With that said both the intentions behind the actions in my example and what Capcom and MadCatz are doing come from greed.
Funny thing is that’s what popped into my head after I read “A business has a strategy where the goal is to make as much money as they can” which when you think about it fits nicely. Its also funny how you chose not the address the main point of this whole discussion which is:
Are what Capcom and Madcatz doing right? And no being a big corporation and doing business doesn’t excuse wrong actions.
Yes what they are doing is right. They are doing what is best for them to maximize their potential earnings at the current point.
Fact of the matter is while many of you are crying about them not supporting PS3 sticks, they haven’t said whether they are or not either way. It’s in their best interest to keep their mouths shut on this matter until the game comes out from a business perspective and is the “right” thing to do.
If you’re offended because they aren’t divulging private company information to you yet that is your right. But they owe us absolutely nothing on the subject at hand right now.
There are 3 scenarios to play out.
They tell us they support PS3 sticks - some people who bought the TE2 and preordered it are pissed off because they “wasted” $200 on a new stick.
They tell us they aren’t supporting PS3 sticks - some people who think they deserve to use decade old peripherals on a new console are pissed off because their sticks are now obsolete (which is a stupid way to think anyways).
They do what they are doing now and don’t tell us anything - people still get pissed off because they want to know one way or the other.
No matter what they do they are in a lose/lose/lose situation to the entitlement mentality FGC.
Smartest move business wise for them is to keep their mouths shut and let people who want to buy TE2’s buy them, and those who don’t want to, to wait and find out.
PS4’s not having legacy support has zero to do with morality. I understand you don’t want to replace your perfectly functional arcade stick but Capcom and Madcatz ain’t scumbags not wanting to support your old tech. This has always been the case for consoles for years. If you insistent on using your stick then I suggest looking for other options like the Brook converter.
I agree it was nice on their part to include ps3 support on USF4. I wonder how much copies that game would have sold if they didn’t include ps3 stick support. When you take into consideration that most of the purchases probably came from users who already own the game on ps3/360 I imagine the profit would be a lot less.
Companies are made by people, ran by people and controlled by people. The decision and action a “company” makes is a decision and action made by people therefore it has everything to do with morals.
Also there’s a misunderstanding for which i’m partially to blame. I’m not saying the people working at Capcom or Madcatz are scumbags. I don’t even know anyone who works there.
What i’m saying is that they are handling this situation immorally.
I just wish they would say something on the subject so I know whether or not to go and get my old sticks modded, or just go PC where it they will already work. We already know ps3 sticks work on ps4s on a game made by capcom. I can’t really justify $230 on another stick because they think it will make them more money. Nothing against madcatz or capcom, but i’ve already shelled out for two TE’s that still work perfectly fine.
I have no problem with a business model, but I don’t see myself dropping that kind of cash on a new madcatz. If anything this will benefit the modding/PC community.
If you want to talk about morality talk about the e-waste generated because of blocking backwards compatibility of electronic devices similar to how phones/computers have incremental updates that require an entirely new device. shit is a problem.
There is nothing wrong with Capcom keeping quiet if they are in cahoots with madcatz, but as a consumer you should always support whats best for consumers. PS3 sticks being supported is clearly the best choice from a consumer standpoint.
Understanding Capcom’s stance is one thing, but siding with them is another.
Madcatz makes money from selling sticks. If SFV had support for PS3 sticks, no one would buy their new line of products. If no one buys their new line of products, Madcatz does not make any money. As a business, it is their job to make money. There is no other reason to run a business. I guarantee Madcatz has a deal in place with Capcom to make sure that people will buy their new line of products by not allowing PS3 stick support. Because Money.
Thankfully, there are options available for people who would like to continue using their PS3 sticks, specifically Brook. This will also require money though, because…wait for it…wait for it…they are also a business! Because Money.
As much as we’d like to fantasize that Capcom and Madcatz make the products they do because of their love for the FGC, they don’t. It’s because they make money. Again, Because Money.
Madcatz not letting you use your PS3 has nothing to with morality. You want to take the moral high ground because you don’t have the hardware to play the game. It’s a ridiculous stance to take.
