My rationale at first was that it was an experiment. I was into local game and organic meat before, then I decided to see what would happen if I adopted a vegan diet. So far so good. The meat I consumed was organic chicken, elk, venison, and salmon. So I figured the confirmation bias of switching from bad meats to good veggies would be eliminated as I already ate the good stuff.
My primary sport is trail running, but its rattlesnake season so I cant
I assumed as much. I don’t take u seriously at all tho so you can act out all u want.
Ok, I’ll revise. Veganism is expensive if you want to eat well and not just survive. The above “cheap vegan” is tastebuds optional, and barely beyond the variety of a college student’s ‘meals’. Making GOOD vegan food gets pricey. Same goes for going free range, same goes for going gluten free (though I’m pretty sure this one’s the most expensive of the lot). I know that one all too well considering my wife’s limitations. They’re ultimately better options, and if you do it right, you should be able to get away with eating less due to the diet, but more often than not, you’re going to see a bigger dent in your wallet from food alone (which at the same time could be merely shifted from the medical expenses you previously were spending due to the unhealthy eating habits).
It also really depends on your location. Areas that are more vegan friendly are going to have more competitive prices. You’ll more likely be able to find comparable goods in Portland than you would, say, Atlanta.
And my god help me if that telekinesis joke went over your head.
Best option to avoid cruelty is not eating meat, I don’t expect others to feel guilty for being part of the industry as when I was a meat eater I had none either. It would be unfair to use veganism to try and put others down, for basically being in the same position I was in. I don’t want to get into the technical arguments here, butts will get hurt. I’m always interested in the technical debate among those who hold oppose subjectivity, else its just talking past one another. PM me an invite if you use an intellectual forum or start a thread with that intention. For now, I really just want to know who in the SRK FGC is on the veggie level.
Again wrong, seriously just ask if you want answers. As for the joke, it didn’t, but I wanted to throw in a dreadlock reference since its my favorite stereotype.
Unfortunately I mostly cook Asian food, so I can’t offer that many cheap+good American recipes. But I assure you that cost-wise, unless you got local game (like me), being vegan is still cheaper. Most of the “VEGAN ANTI-GMO #BANBOSSY” labels out there are marketing gimicks. What IS pricey is the Organic Frutarian diet or one that includes a bunch of processed foods. Vegan paddies (if you like burgers) are totally cheap to make as the primary component is black bean. If you are seriously curious about cost-effective vegan recipes I can post some links. The college-diet quip is funny, as I’ll eat burritos any time anywhere and dgaf what social context it has XD. My discovery of how to make good chipotle sauce has basically merged the Burrito dimension with my own.
All I gotta say in regards to cost is my wife has done a lot of experimentation with various styles of food due to her gluten sensitivity, including lots of rather good vegan dishes, and they still end up costing about the same per serving than a solid steak dinner (homecooked). That, to me, is expensive. Eating burritos is fine once in a while, but fuck that shit’ll get old quick. I do like my bocaburgers as an alternative, but my wife can’t eat that.
And you really, REALLY need to either read or watch Scott Pilgrim, man. That joke should be flyin’ over no one’s heads.
This, overall the cost will balance (unless u make things from scratch). Going vegan to cut food expense is ill advised imo as that mentality could lead to messing up macros. Ive never seen Scott Pilgrim. Boca is bottom tier, but still tasty in a pinch. I disagree on getting old with burritos man, just thinking about burritos makes me want to tear down a wall to get to one. add the avocado and fresh crunchy veggies and im seeing red.
Some general thoughts as a veggie:
• I don’t mind people eating meat in general, imho it’s perfecly fine to a reasonable degree
• I despise ‘bad’ meat, the as much as possible, as cheap as possible mentality
• (good) Meat is delicious. That’s a fact. :v
• Mass produced meat based on force-feeding suppored by antibiotics is disgusting
• Fast-food sucks. “make it edible with ketchup”… my ass.
I don’t regret my life as a veggie at all, but i don’t condemn omnivores.
Way too many people just don’t care about the taste. Less meat but higher quality plx.
I didn’t come to this thread to mock your lifestyle. If anything I disagree on the fundamentals of veganism (killing others to eat), that’s all. I’ve even pointed out what parts I agree with. I’m a PhD in chemistry and I constantly (well not that often but still) check on scientific discussion about the subject (land, sustainability, protein intake, etc) as I’m a meat lover (no homo).
On a side note, I strongly disagree with your argument about kids on sweat shops “having a choice”. I would dare you travel to one of those countries, observe the reality in those towns and tell me what kind of a choice is that. Not lightly is called “modern human slavery”. I’m pretty sure you have heard about the safety nets outside/around Apple factories to prevent people from committing suicide. Did a chicken have a choice of becoming part of a happy meal? Probably not, but please tell me how many days under normal conditions (no supervision, no monitoring, no fences, etc) would you expect a chicken to survive in whatever land you wish to release it.
I tried going vegetarian (including no fish), I started out feeling great but after 6 months I was feeling unhealthy. But that was most likely the result of me being a terrible cook and having no idea WTF I was getting into so I’m pretty sure I wasn’t getting enough calories.
What’s a normal daily dietary routine for you that allows you to get a sufficient caloric intake?
I for one did what most of my athlete/bodybuilder friends did: A food log.
~15 minutes per day I entered the values of the food I consumed, but it’s not only helpful for veggies, it’s great in general for everyone.
Food logs #dabess. <3 Foreign language screenshot, but that’s how it could look:
Stuff like caloric value/fat/carbs/protein, in Germany we have a huge & free database, should be easy for everyone.
You simply look up what you used, enter the values and you’re done.
People should be more aware of their food in general.
I use cronometer for the exact same thing. Fortunately, I make most of my food from scratch so I just enter ingredients (easier). The only thing I eat from a package is lo mein noodles lol. If I went back to be omnivorous I would still use cronometer. Those nutrition calculators are indispensable to me now.
Da fuq. Please tell me I typoed somewhere and that u aren’t make the stupidest (and horribly distasteful on YOUR part) strawman argument I have ever had directed at me. I would never assert that the poverty stricken have the choice power of those who aren’t, further, a child in general doesn’t even choose their food so the argument’s premise is flawed on all fronts. What a callous and disgusting position to take, if I somehow made that claim (that sweat shop kids have a choice) it would have been on accident as I am diametrically opposed to it. Bare in mind, I am expecting to talk to mostly Canadians and Americans so I am not prefacing my statements. I am not speaking of Bangladesh when I say “oh just make a burrito” or something, I would imagine that much is obvious to a sane person.
Now, I want the direct quote where I argued that “kids on sweat shops have a choice”. This is a falsifiable claim, and it is a strawman if it is false.
like I said ur not offensive, ur embarrassing (to yourself). If you are desperate to be accepted by a vegan, go to 30bananasaday and say u want to be one. They will give u all kinds of advise, and will be a fresh start. Edit: I don’t accept damage control, so it won’t work.
