Any Suikoden Fans?

Hey guys, just wanted to see who loves the Suikoden franchise? I got all 6 (That’s including Suiko Tactics) and what’s your fave? Mine is II, that’s probably any fan’s favorite.

Just post here ^^

PS.

I love II, I bought it on eBay for $123 (CDN). I think I had a pretty good deal considering people go past that haha xD (It was a Buy It Now)

i bought suikoden 1 when i was was like 13. Its my favorite, simply because of the nostalgia. Ive played suikoden 2 recently, its great too.

I got 3 when it came out as well, and completed it, but it didnt have the charm of the first two. I never played anything past that.

fun series tho =D

2 was great, and 5 was ridiculously amazing too (aside from the crappy loading times).
I’m currently playing Suikoden Tierkreis on the DS. It’s not bad, but the encounter rate is a bit too high.

I’ve been playing through the entire series since the beginning of this year. So far, I’ve played through Suikodens 1-4 (just finished 4 yesterday) and Suikoden Tierkreis.

I have to say, I’m not really impressed with this series. Suikoden 1 had some killer style, but it had some really shitty gameplay issues (yes, even when considering that it was released in 1994 - there were SNES RPGs that were less clunky than Suiko 1). Suikoden 3 was long-winded, not that interesting, super slow, and focused too much on the weird fantasy elements. Suikoden 4 is like a hollow shell of a game, and Suikoden Tierkreis feels like your everyday JRPG, unfortunately.

The only game that has really stood out in my opinion was Suikoden 2, and that game was, just, AMAZING.

I’ve started Suikoden Tactics, but I’m not really sure how much I’ll enjoy it - it’s a little slow. I’m kind of looking forward to 5, but I’m trying not to get hype because when that happens, I’m usually disappointed by a game.

Suikoden 1 and 2 are the definitive Suikoden games. Everything after sucks.

crap I forgot to add Tierkreis. lololol

EDIT

So after reading your comments, it’s the typical and agreeable response: Everything after 2 sucks.

1&2 are what really Suiko was about. III got a Trinity system and it was a pretty cool change but the 3D didn’t really support the game. I just love how the game lasted so long in the 3D world with SII.

I have all 6, I probably won’t enjoy the hated IV much but I’ll cope. It’s true the game isn’t really impressing as a series.

But II itself is one of the best RPGs of time I’d have to say. (My favorite anyways :D)

I seriously have to roll with 2. As a PAL (Australian) gamer, I was very annoyed at 3 onwards, since my save data could not roll on. Huge fan of 2.

Played Suikoden (thanks PSN!), it was kinda short. Suikoden III has been long forgotten.

Suiko is definitely one of my favorite series.

One of the most impressive aspects of the series is that EVERY game is connected together…Konami has done a masterful job of creating such an expansive world with hundreds of characters and dozens of lands, each with their own detailed histories and cultures.

And ALL of this with almost no lame, contrived plot twists that hurts the series’ plot (Star Ocean) or lack of direction that prevents the world between games from having cohesion (Breath of Fire), and there are almost no retcons at all.

the iron chef minigame in 2 owned

BIG FAN OF THE SERIES.

I’ll go on a whim here and just say: Suikoden > Final Fantasy

There I said it. lol.

Suikoden II with Suikoden 1 assist can’t be fucked with.

This right here is a fact. Suikoden is indeed > Final Fantasy. QFT!

Personally, I haven’t really enjoyed any game in the series except Suikoden 2. And even Suikoden 2 had a few obnoxious gameplay aspects that were bothersome. If the story wasn’t so good in that game, I would have hated it just like the rest. I’d say it’s a fluke in an otherwise boring series. But, I have yet to play Suikoden 5.

Man, what i wouldnt give for more games like Suikoden 1 and 2.

I never played suikoden 4 or 5. I want to one day.

I cant believe they didnt make a direct sequel to Suikoden 2. It had all the elements for one. What happened to Jowy after the whole highland army ordeal? Would the sequel have Nanami live or die?

What about Viktor and Flik? What do they do afterwards? Suikoden 3 answers some of the questions about Viktor and FLik and other side characters, but I found the Jowy/Hero storyline to be very compelling.

Nah…you really don’t want to actually play Suiko 4.

There, you’ve already seen the best of the game.

I & II represent!

Suikoden I was my second completed RPG as a youngster. Brings back memories.

Seems like no one wanted to vote for Tierkreis anyways xD I forgot to put it up but it doesn’t seem to be a problem :]

I love the Suiko series, I remember over looking the game for like a year because the cover art was so lame… when I finally played it due to a friend’s insistence, I was in love with it!

Suiko I was so fun, but extremely short. I think I beat it in 19 hours.

Suiko II was excellent, deeper characters longer game and the Suiko humor was at its best in this game.

I loved Suiko III, the trinity sight system was an excellent way to tell the story. Seeing the same scene through another’s perspective was something you only saw in flashbacks in other games. For example, when a certain main character cuts down another main character’s friend in one scene…

Suiko IV, I played it and still have it… but man was this game a chore to play. If you really like Ted from Suiko I it’s somewhat cool to see him again.

Suiko Tactics, I bought it a few years ago, but haven’t put forth the effort to play through it yet. Therefore, no opinion.

Suiko V, I had so much fun with this game! Georg Prime ftw!

Suiko Tierkreis, I want to pick this up eventually.

It’s hard for me to choose between II and III, both were excellent games imo. I’ll have to go with III simply because it was the one that tried to deviate from Suiko I’s gameplay. Suiko III’s strength is also its weakness: The trinity sight system adds a unique story experience, but because of that they lose the chance to go deeper with some character development. I love the stories where the ‘bad guy’ isn’t really evil just has a different outlook on what is best for the world. (Won’t mention names to spoil anything for new players)

Anyway, can’t go wrong with Suiko 1-3, & 5. They’re all so close chronologically, so it’s nice to see what your favorite characters are doing with their lives. 4 is so far apart, it doesn’t really link to the series as well.
