Any point getting into 3rd Strike?

With SF4 out and the 3rd Strike community slowly getting smaller, is there any point in getting into 3rd Strike now? SF4 didnt impress my very much and i have had alot more fun with 3s for the short time ive played it although, i do thrive of compitition and there is a lack of that for 3s, exp. for where i live (Western Australia if you need to know).

Or i could just casual 3s till blazblue comes for PC

Do you actually have anyone to play with?

I do recall there were a good amount of really sick australian players, but I’m not aware of what part they were from and how the scene is continuing over there.

That’s not a question that we can provide the answer to; it’s up to you to decide. If you want to play a masterpiece, play 3s. If not, then don’t play it and fuck off.

Haul your ass over to http://www.ozhadou.net/* for Australian comp. The good players where concentrated around the Good Games Arcade in Sydney though.

*When it’s back up :expressionless:

Play it if you want to learn how to play fighting games.

Play blazeblue if you want to learn how to play that specific fighting game.

If that makes any sense.

is it worth getting into? if you find it fun then yes it’s worth it. since you don’t have much comp and since 3s on ggpo is trash (IMO), you may get bored of it and quit. but you’re missing out on the funnest sf game there is. FUCK THE HATERS

Not really atm, but if i do start playing it more seriously i will definatly head over to ozhadou as Shend said to see if i can find anyone.

Thanks for your help anyway guys, decided i may aswell just play 3s as SFIV puts me to sleep

play 3s strike alot untill ssf4 come by then you will fight like a pro and you will do good in ssf4, if u just start with sf4 there is a chance you will fight like a shite fighter.

Then by then only you can make that decision.

I would say absolutely play it cause it’s fun on even the most basic levels.
However if you want to play at high levels then be prepared to do some serious studying, IMO 3rd strike has the most complecated learning curve of any fighting game, not even taking execution into account. Even if you want to use yun or chun or ken the sheer volume of statagies that these and other characters can use against you is unlike any other game and you may find your self falling for like 5000 gimmicks before you learnt how to punish them all.

It’s a fun game just to play. Do you really need to consider WHAT’S THE MOST POPULAR GAME to decide which game you want to play?

For me it’ll be fun to play until there’s absolutely no one left to play with.

Yeah you should.

Its a good game, you will have fun and it helps you get better at fighters in general.

This

even though bodlers trollin,g he is right. You learn more about fighting games when playing any of the older ones ST/3s/Cvs2. SFIV teaches a lot of bad habits to new comers. One example would be mashing dp during blockstrings…

Or maybe even learn alpha 2/3 to get ready for the new characters.

ur gay

I’m still a hardcore noob when it comes to fighting games but everything about this game just draws me in. The style, music, characters, parrying… This game just stands out to me more than any of the others. As far as competition in Australia, I have no clue. Can you use GGPO over there?

Question for the folks in this thread…

Why are you guys saying that if you play this it’l make you better at other fighting games? What makes 3s superior in terms of skill and as a learning process?

In my opinion? The SF Alpha-style inputs (actually it sits somewhere between the Alpha games and CVS2 if you ask me, I find CVS2 more forgiving than 3S, but Alpha’s execution to be more demanding than both) that require precision from the player and therefore condition you to play any fighting game well. If you learn fighters with SF4, for example, you’ll create bad habits, as execution demands for it are ridiculously low and a lot of bullshit registers as accurate commands. Then you try to move over to a fighter engineered for people with some manual dexterity (which is something you can develop anyways) and fall flat on your face, unable to pull off anything.

As for your GGPO question, yes, you can use it in Australia.

Oh yea, I know what you’re saying. SF4s inputs are way easier than any other. So far though, ime, HDremix has the most difficult inputting of any fighting game I’ve played.

Is there any competition for 3S in WA? Even if it’s just a few people. Even Adelaide has some, and if Adelaide has it, then every other Australian city has more.

Anyway, yes you should get into 3S coz it’s like the most fucking awesome 2D fighter ever.

And there’s good players in Melbourne. I haven’t ever been to arcades in either of those cities, though. I’m not sure what the scenes are like today, but Melbourne also has the Couch Warriors console tournaments every month (some good players there, but not on the level of the Good Games players).

I don’t know if this uniquely identifies 3s.

To me, 3s focuses more on reading the tendencies of your opponent more than any game I can think of. There is an option to deal with every situation, so if you want your moves to hit you always need to be 1 step ahead of your opponent.

Yes, well said. This is another reason to love 3S. and YES, you should definitely get into 3S if you enjoy it, the competition is not going anywhere for quite awhile.
