Any Audiophiles on SRK

I just got into the hobby. Sadly more of my time is going into this than fighting games. Just curious if any one on here owns any high end audio equipment.

Question OP did you use the search function?

Own any? No. Desperately wanting some? Fuck yes. I want enough cash so I can at least experience what this guy is going through.

yes

Never herd those but I dont think I want to now.

LoL… I own a few toys.

Head Phones
Sennheiser HD650 and HD800
Audeze LCD-XC
Noble K10
Weston 4r

Players
AK240
FiiO x5
hifiman HM-650

*I’m not quite an audiophile since I don’t have the money to fully indulge myself but I have had a few pair of nice cans.

Sennheiser Amperiors
Beyerdynamic DT990 Pros
Sennnheiser Momentum over ears (on the way)

I was thinking about waiting for the Momentum 2.0’s to drop in feb, but I have smallish ears and I got a good deal on them (sub $200).

I only have a little Fuze+ player, stock firmware without rockbox. I’ve been kicking around the idea of rockboxing it but it’s been chugging along nicely for years now. Once this player bites the dust (hopefully not time soon), I’ll probably get a FiiO x1 or x3.

I’m actually in the market for a cheap (sub $100) pair of cans to dick around with. Either some monitors or an open back pair. *

I read the Op as pedophiles lol

I don’t know if you’d consider it high end, but I’ve got a nice Audio Technica AT-PL120 turntable that I put through my Yamaha HS-50 monitors. The only music I buy (if you don’t count Spotify) these days is vinyl. The setup I have sounds really fantastic, though I haven’t invested in any really good headphones because I rarely listen to anything on phones.

This may sound hella hipster but I have get togethers at my place and some buddies will bring over some vinyl, we’ll listen and discuss it. We had one Sunday and wound up listening to some Mellencamp, Ray Charles, Van Halen, Kaskade and some other stuff.

I wish I could be an audiophile, especially since I have been DJ’ing for over a decade. Once I get a bigger place I will start getting a few things. There is a spot here in Chicago that specializes in very high end audio gear. I walked in there and walked out sobbing because… poverty.

I had an opportunity to work over seas which helped me finance this new hobby. I took the high end route and got the cream of the crop instead of gradually upgrading to the best. Honestly I hardly listen to my most expensive headphones (HD800 and LCD-XC). I mostly listen to my Custom In ear monitors because they are more portable.

I visited the stereo exchange in NYC a few months back. They had system that are valued over 20k. I listen to a martin Logan electrostatic speakers. To this day… I have never herd any thing like it. I hope I get a chance to own 1 some day. or maybe some stax headphones

When i find a greatly priced 160gb iPod classic im Rockboxing that to hell. R.I.P.

Also what is everybody’s opinion on the Pono? I personally think Neil Young is fronting. Or the new Walkmans? $300 or $1200 models.

FiiO already have plans to release the x7. Its an android powered DAP. The Price point is about 700USD. I herd good things about the x1 and at $100 its not a bad buy for a loss-less player.

Check out the headphone link. Please, for the love of god stay away from beats. They are garbage… Absoultly garbage. Bose are a small step up from beats but not by much.

never herd it and the audiophile community doesn’t have much to say about it either. which is some what strange. Herd the sony walkman (300 model) at a stereo convention in NY. Sound quality was pretty good. I hate the lack of expansion slots for storage tho… mistake on my end

I’m not an audiophile but I’m on the road to being one. I bought a Fiio X3 a month ago and I’ve been loving it. It manages to make shitty MP3s better. Been looking for good pair of headphones to get the most out of it.

If anything, it’ll make shitty MP3s sound worse because you’ll notice all the distortions and lack of clarity. If I’m listening to MP3s, I try to make sure they’re at least 320 kbps if not lossless.

It depends on the music. I find that heavy metal, some rap and techno are not worth getting in high quality. Music like Jazz, Classical and vocal (Norah Jones and Adele) are better in high quality because of the complexity of the audio to reproduce. I guess what I am trying to say is natural music sound better in high quality.

*I was leaning towards the X3 because I wouldn’t need to switch between sd cards, but the X1 would suit my needs as well. I didn’t hear about the x7, it’s outside of my price range but it looks like a dream. I’ve actually been using Head-fi for years now, that place is a great place to learn about the world of audio. I personally would never buy Beats or Bose headphones, just not what I’m looking for. I’d sooner get a pair of Monoprice 8323 than either of those.

I was actually looking at those 7506’s as my cheap pair of knockarounds, but my budget for headphones is sub-$100 after I ordered the Momentums. If I had a little more money I could have gotten the Fidelio X2’s, but they were just outside of my budget.

Does car audio count? LOL. I was USACi champ, IASCA and dbDrag competitor for the longest time but have gotten out of it years back. It’s an expensive hobby!

I’m not an audiophile because frankly, I can’t afford it and don’t care to drop the cash on certain aspects of audiophilia. I do stuff like room correction using a microphone and an AVR with AudessyXT and have a stereo setup of Event TR6 monitors. Not into surround sound, at least not yet, and when I do I will use a 4.0 setup because IMO anything else is a waste and can be done using panning between all 4 speakers.

I am a huge audio snob though. I loathe shitty recordings, hiss, and so on. I love the sound of a good, clean digital recording which is something a lot of audiophiles do not seem to like, or I’m simply seeing a vocal minority. They seem to prefer analog “warmth” and to my ears, it’s just extra noise that was never meant to be in the recording and rather unpleasant to hear. I do however agree with the analogers on one thing, dynamic range. I also do not like mixes that have no dynamic range. They cause ear fatigue after a bit of listening.

have you considered the x5?
