I actually know an old ken player on supercade sometimes.
He is pretty shitty but someties you get knocked down as bison and you lose. Anyways, when he wins he is all “You suck”, “Yawn”, “god you are so bad”, and when he loses switches right into “Lag” “Oh man you are so lag I am still way better”
That’s what I thought originally, but really, It’s harder to get in on akuma in HDR than ST. ST the fireballs were a shallower angle, so if you predicted/timed a jumpin correctly you could get in and punish a bad air fireball, it’s much harder to do that now.
Also, once you are knocked down, the fireball meaty is much more effective than in ST as well.
Not to mention that he has an unblockable super now, that is unavoidable in certain situations…
I swear, in the past I’ve read through this thread and other people have mentioned this before… where did those posts go…?
And wasn’t this thread more than one page before as well…?
Actually I’m with Unessential’s take on it. ST Akuma’s definitely got some cheap stuff, but there is no unavoidable super and simply changing the angle did not fix/balance it for HDR. While you can hit HDR Akuma with high air tatsu spinkicks, it’s actually risky and only because so many HDR Akuma players get so used to throwing out so many air fireballs. The angle is different on the descent of air fb but he’s still got the juggle-able specials (all, even with each other). HDR Akuma is definitely a “Play to Win” character.
Wow, what a dick head. That was X-mania too? If I was at that tournament I would have shook my head at that akuma players direction as passively aggressive as I could.
And anybody arguing about Akuma in this thread is missing the point of this thread. It’s about beating him, not about whether ST Akuma is worse than HDR Akuma (but FWIW ST Akuma is worse than HDR Akuma).
And I’m speaking as a Ryu/Ken/Akuma fan. I actually wanted Akuma to be a legit character in HDR. But he’s too powerful. I even went as far as trying to argue that if his Air Hadoken and his Super was banned in tourney matches, that he could be a legit tourney character.
But he can’t.
His hitboxes are too good. His jump Roundhouse is fucking amazing (it stuffs Guile’s Flash Kick from certain ranges, as well as Tiger Uppercuts, Flame Kicks, almost anything really)
And his Hadoken hitboxes are seriously broken. He can avoid meaties and crossups if done as a reversal… But the worst thing, THE WORST THING, is his meaty Air Hadoken setups and his Raging Demon setups (some of which cannot be avoided).
And don’t get me started on his Teleports and Shoryukens, they are also overpowered.
