Anime & Manga Thread v.5 FAQ/IRC: See OP. Welcome to 2017

does tv guide even exist anymore? nigga you old lol

Shut up fucker.

Also stop posting Metalka box, no one cares about that shit anymore lol. Anyways Last Order is so much better when Alita is not in it.

hey guys im really not trying to get in the way of your various arguments, but i have a question i think you could answer and i dont have another place to ask

i just want recommendations of anime that is heavily symbolic and subliminal the way flcl is, its a huge bonus if its also philosophical and has great art

ive watched all of gainaxs stuff as well as serial experiments lain, boogiepop, tatami galaxy, marawu penguindrum, and some more mainstream stuff like death note, fruits basket, and all the ghibli movies

as it stands though, im still very out-of-the-loop about anime, especially newer series, and i figure your guys probably know a lot

so wont you please suggest some series for me to watch?

ps-if there is a rule i dont know whereby im not supposed to ask questions like this, please just say so and ill delete this

edit- also, to any mod, please delete my previous comments or message me about how i can go about doing that, i really dont want to spam or break any rules, im just a bit of a noob

Try Madbull 34 for series and for ovas M.D. Geist and Garzey’s Wing may do the trick.

Fairy Tail sucks ass, the only good current shounens are Hunter X Hunter 2011, Magi, One Piece, Beelzebub and Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure 2012.

And I find it funny that some of you loli-lovers in here have the audacity to tar all shounen with the same shit dipped brush when you watch some of the creepiest shit on the world of anime :))

Isn’t Jojo considered Seinen?

I just read/watch whatever I find interesting. I’m not expecting a grand storyline from shonen in the first place.

It’s considered seinen since SBR. But it ran in Jump for all the other parts, Araki really pushed the limits for what you could get away with in Jump mag.

Well, I’d think it was Hokuto no Ken which started it all (even Araki admitted to it being one of his major manga inspirations). Back in the early 80’s, you couldn’t find something as violent; especially in a manga of Jump’s caliber. Even the anime nerfed the violence big time because it was that strong.

Interesting to see how that expanded into a genre of it’s own later down in the years.

Speaking of HnK, this is going to air next month.

Kind of a contrast to the old series, ain’t it? Even Kenshiro’s old anime VA is back; but now he voices Ryuken.

Shonen sucks.
Shoujo sucks.
Seinen sucks.
Josei sucks.

Moenin, which is the budding genre for sexless adult children, is the future.
Endless consumerism, perpetual instant satisfaction, and a biochemical addiction to synthetic, prefabricated relationships is what the world should embrace.

I can’t understand how you find that funny, as they have nothing to do with each other. It’s like me saying ā€œit’a hilarious how all you dog lovers like to talk so much shit about the Walking Dead when you love watching dog shows so much ROFLā€. Like, wheres the correlation?

im not sure if you meant to say this like its not common knowledge…like anyone with half a brain cell could tell from art alone…screw the dialogue or plot.

Some people have yet to experience one or both series.

(Yes, that’s depressing, I know.)

stop hurting me.

its irony. I have no problems with anime in general, cuz i watch it all, but he is saying that ā€œohhh viillains, cheeap. ohhh, powers, childish. watching this little girl being sexualized and this brother and sister fuck eachother, THE BESTā€

of course this is all in good fun, no one take it personally, i know how some of you guys caan get when i insult YOUR WAIFUS.

To be fair, many girls in these ā€œloli showsā€ are legal in some states. ~O)

the only ā€œloli showā€ I’ve ever watched was mitsudomoe, and it was a hilarious loli show.

…now i want a 3rd season…or a real second season…

Now I’m depressed. I really miss that show. It’s up there with Nichijou as one of my top 5 comedies ever.

Speaking of comedies, whomever has their doubts of the current season of Minami-ke should rest easy; it’s pretty much has everything S1 had compared to the later two seasons and more (namely better comedic timing, more ridiculous misunderstandings and Hosaka singing his lungs out).

  • No doubt that Fist of the North Star had a big impact on pushing boundaries, specially when you’re talking about violence. However Araki has challenged the status quo in Jump quite a bit of times. Weather it was killing off his main character, using foreigners as the protagonist, physical manifestation of psychological powers or having a female character be the lead character. All these things believe it or not were considered taboo or breaking new ground when he did it. In a interview I read Araki also mentioned how much he had to fight with his editor to actually get these (and others) printed in Jump. *

tfw no gf ;_;

…oh this’ll do

I guess it wouldn’t hurt for me to also add some reactions/impressions/comments to the episodic summary spoiler stuff that I write up, or something.
I think the only time I actually talked about something that wasn’t a summary was some comments I made regarding Nadeshiko when Binbougami ga! was airing, lol.

Also, if people were actually wondering/curious about my thoughts/impressions on the shows that I’m currently watching/cover:

Spoiler

Bakumatsu Gijinden Roman - Mainly watched because of the art style being reminiscent of Lupin stuff. It’s alright.

Chihayafuru 2 - Though the introduction of the new karuta club members Sumire and Tsukuba took up a portion of the focus in the first couple episodes, things quickly got back into the groove soon afterwards with the regular members. It’s still interesting to see what kind of people play karuta, especially considering the quirky personalities of the featured players. Waiting for the individual tournament stuffs to take place. Arata was kinda just ā€˜there’ in spirit for a while but I’m glad that he’s back in the picture. Shinobu’s appearances and behavior is quite something at times.

Kotoura-san - 1st episode drew me in with the tone that was showcased. Though the comedy parts are entertaining from time-to-time, a shift in tone back to some dramatic stuffs would be nice, I think.

Magi - I’m liking the story and the setting. It’s been enjoyable though there has been some dips in animation quality here-and-there. I’m wondering on how long the episodic run will be?

Minami-ke Tadaima - Aria pretty much covered it. I get the same feeling like I’m watching S1 all over again with the lolz coming the ā€˜ordinary’ situations that the three Minami Sisters experience.

Robotics;Notes - It took a while for the change in tone to take place (compared to Steins;Gate), but it’s made things quite interesting. Needs more appearances by Mister Pleiades and Kona’s personality/speech is quite amusing.

Vividred Operation - It is, what it is. lol. Also, I kinda dig the music for the fight scenes/encounters.

Zetsuen no Tempest - The journey has been quite interesting and I’m just waiting to see how it ends. The Shakespeare overtones/references are a nice touch. I still remember the ā€˜conference call’ convo that lasted for a while, lol.

Other shows that I’m currently watching:
Cuticle Detective Inaba - I am entertained by the antics of the cast. Needs more ā€˜serious’ Don Valentino, IMO. After watching this show, I kinda want a goat character to show up on Shirokuma Cafe.

GJ-bu - For some reason, I enjoy watching the antics of the group in action. Kyoro needs to channel Ore-man more often to keep the girls in check.

Haganai S2 - I’m liking Rika more with each passing episode. Also, Kate easily gives Sena a run for her money in the oppai department.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure- Hella entertaining. The VA work on this show is quite something, as is Stroheim having his own theme music.

Maoyuu Maou Yuusha - The economic stuffs is interesting.

Psycho-Pass - Not much else to add to what already has been said about the show by everyone else.

Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo - I like it and it made me think about Toradora, though I stayed for Misaki cake.

Sasami-san @ Ganbaranai - It’s has some sort of quirky charm going for it, which makes it an interesting experience.

Shin Sekai Yori - Every week, something goes down and makes you wonder what will happen on next week’s episode. I kinda miss the 1st ED for some reason.

Shirokuma Cafe - I’m still watching this. The group interactions are amusing and Polar Bear’s ā€˜trolling’ makes for some fun entertainment, usually at the cost of Grizzly’s patience. I randomly learned some things about coffee stuffs in some episodes and I don’t even drink coffee, lol.

Space Bros. - Like Chihayafuru, I feel that the (new) chars that are introduced often add to the diversity of the cast, mainly for their personality quirks and their motivations regarding the focused topic of the show. The addition of Vincent Bold as an instructor is interesting (due to his personality). The training stuffs should be interesting, though for some reason it made me think about the JAXA individual/group stuffs that took place. Now it’s time for Nitta’s (back)story to unfold.
