PP 17

[details=Spoiler] The human brain twist makes perfect sense and I loved it don’t think anyone saw it coming. Makishima is still a piece of shit who needs to die and I’m sure some idiots will root for him, but I admit his rebellion act was badass. The end of Sybil is obvious but that doesn’t take away from the enjoyment of the show for me. I think Makishima and Tsunemori will live but Kogami is too smart and reckless for his own good, playing it that close to the chest all the time is not a smart idea for self preservation, then again I don’t think he cares about dying as long as Makishima is brought to justice.

None of the main cast can be considered traditional protagonists, all of them were willing to go along with the plan of keeping quiet about what happened when Makishima killed Akane’s friend. Even Akane’s who is supposed to be the voice of reason is tainted by corruption after episode 10, not for failing to save her friend but for not speaking up about the obvious flaw in the Sybil system and perpetuating the cycle of hypocrisy. bitch you can’t have your cake and eat it too. She is my favorite character about she along with everyone else lost a lot of respect from me after that “we’ll still pretend Sybil works as advertised but we’ll secretly execute those who we suspect as guilty of crime even when Sybil doesn’t”. That mentality the inspectors and enforcers engaged in comes dangerously close to the modern Guantanomo Bay and terrorism debates going on.[/details]

No reason to be so combative. My post was not meant to be either. I’m fairly certain everyone in here has thought what you have thought or had brought it up at some point. There wasn’t really anything else for me to say other than you’re probably just looking into it too much. Urobuchi writes compelling, original stories, but he isn’t looking to put any social commentary or philosophical projections into his works.

Not being combative just playfully snarky, geez I’d hate to know how you’d react if goodmourning quoted you =P. I’d argue the opposite is true. I’m surprised you would say this because PP makes it’s commentary pretty obvious like most anime subtlety isn’t it’s strength. The social and moral critique is built in and whether it’s intentional or not from the writers would be highly debatable were it not for the fact that Phillip K. Dick (one of my favorites) was mentioned. Just thinking about Makishima saying his name makes me smile LOL!

I dunno. Given Urobuchi’s previous works, I just don’t see Psycho-Pass trying to be overly complex.

*I do believe there is social commentary going on. Specially when looking at the episodes surrounding Spooky Boogie and The all girls school. Heck I’d even go as far as Urobutchi questioning our own modern societies reliance on technology in our everyday lives. That’s the impression I get anyway.

With that said here’s some of my comments on episode 17.

[details=Spoiler]Very intriguing episode! So from the very start Sybil has been horrible flawed because of it’s reliance on the cognisance of societies outliers to completely monitor the people of Japan. This also explains why the Sybil System bifurcated from Kougamis teacher “old way” of doing things: They sought to completely hold themselves above and separate from conventional lines of thinking. Even if they recruited a mass of outliers because of their aversion of emotional bias in judging others it’s shortsighted (as we’ve seen repeatedly thus far) because of complete lack of contextual meaning.

It’s funny because we seen this exact line of thinking reflected in how people reacted during the riots of episode 16. In the very beginning one man had (hilariously) suggested that rioting and beating the shit out of everyone else was ok because "Sybil said violence is only permissive if it’s a act of self defense. The rioters said to themselves “Well this is fine because other people are committing indiscretionary violence. We’re getting them before they get us!”. Even before that we’ve seen numerous times examples of society in pyscho pass following Sybils propagation bottom line ideas of “Obey the system and live peacefully or else become a criminal!”

It’s akin to Parents telling their children the boogieman is real, he’s hiding in the closest and the only way to stop him from eating you is listening to your parents, eating your veggies and not hitting your younger brother. Except in Pyscho Passes case the Sybil system is said parent and it’s children is the entire country of Japan. Exasperated further still because of whole generations beig nurtured on this “truism”. [/details]*

Not sure if I posted this in here. Definitely tweeted it though. CLICK THE SHARK FOR THE ENTIRE ALBUM.

Zetsuen no Tempest - 18

Spoiler

Reactions to Aika being Yoshino’s girlfriend are mixed. Hanemura believes it to be the logical choice and Samon and Junichiro see the reasoning in it. However, Mahiro isn’t convinced and he storms off. Elsewhere, Hakaze feels that she is indeed responsible for Aika’s death but Yoshino says otherwise. Apparently, Yoshino was holding that secret to himself and from everyone for the longest time, causing him to bottle up his emotions after Aika’s passing. With some help from Hakaze, Yoshino finally releases his built up emotions, with Hakaze being there to comfort him in his time of need. Hakaze apparently has something in mind after she meets with Junichiro sometime later, something about ‘testing’ the Tree of Genesis - it’s influence versus her will. Somewhere else, Evangeline, Hayakawa, and Tetsuma have a discussion that focuses on the entity of a snake/dragon, the Ouroboros, and it’s possible connection to the Trees. Evangeline proposes that everything might be an alien plot with a theory that’s pretty out there.

The Mage of Exodus makes another public appearance, but Samon and Natsumura (who are watching the event) wonder about Hakaze’s intentions, as reported by Junichiro. As Hanemura goes to destroy the tree, a person in traditional priestly garb shows up, Hakaze in disguise. Hakaze ‘challenges’ Hanemura to battle and the two fight in spectacular fashion. As the conflict goes on, Samon realizes Hakaze’s true intention - strengthen Hanemura abilities that are in opposition to the Tree of Genesis. Hanemura, having been pushed in combat, destroys the tree after Hakaze leaves. There are some flashbacks to Hakaze and Yoshino regarding this new plan, which appears to separate Hakaze and Yoshino for some time.

Both Yoshino and Mahiro watch/are informed of the the events that are happening. Yoshino appears to have received a missed call from Mahiro. A confrontation between Aika’s brother and Aika’s boyfriend is imminent.

Robotics;Notes - 17

Spoiler

At a beach and under a cloudy sky, Kai, Aki, and their teacher Mitsuhiko reflect on Mizuka’s life. Aki is silent, Kai recalls Mizuka’s last words to him saying to “thank Misa for the mechanical leg braces”, and Mitsuhiko remembers some of Mizuka’s tendencies in life before offering some sake to the ocean waves.

The school principal has a meeting and tells that Aki and Kai that the Robotics Club is to be disbanded and it’s robots destroyed in light of the accident with Subaru, who is hospitalized. JAXA and the Space Candy company (who are present with reps) are also asked to pull their support in the development of GunPro-2. It is a difficult time as Aki and Kai are banned from seeing Subaru by his father. Junna feels responsible for Subaru’s injury and is taking it quite hard, especially after learning that the Robotics Club is to be disbanded. Kona is working on finding out what the problem was with GunPro-2 when she learns from Kai about the disbanding of the club later on.

Kai returns to the site of Mizuka’s accident and is about to check on the location of the Kimijima Report when a man named Sawada (Misa’s boss) of the Exoskeleton Inc. approaches him. Sawada asks if Kai knows about anything related to Kimijima, but Kai doesn’t let on. After Sawada leaves, Kai gets a call from Misa who tells him not to trust anyone regarding the Kimijima Reports. At her home, Aki wakes up from a dream where she is talking to Misa, but the convo goes from pleasant to unpleasant with the elder Senomiya sister telling the the younger Senomiya sister that she can’t compare to her.

At the hangar and the site of the fallen GunPro-2, Aki ‘formally’ announces the disbanding of the Robotics Club, though Kai is the only other member present. Aki tries to feel optimistic and says that she’ll continue on her own and work to surpass Misa. Kai on the other hand reminds Aki about the reality of the situation, which causes Aki to breakdown. However, Kai attempts to challenge Aki’s resolve with a match of Kill-Ballad. Though Kai is usually on his game, Aki is able to win and Kai says that he will support her with whatever she does. Moments later, Doc arrives and the duo thinks that he is going to dismantle but the old man says that he plans to take the robot and work on it at his shop. Mitsuhiko stops by, with the intention of stopping Doc, but he learns it’s not needed and he gives Aki the winnings for the Robotics Club taking second place at the competition last year. With some funding, Aki has a positive outlook regarding the following of her dream.

Kai goes back to the site of the location of the next Kimijima Report but is shocked by the findings - Kimijima Report No.7 isn’t a report, but an EXE.file that uploads the six Kimijima Reports into the Iru-O Network, making them available/known to the world.

Vividred Operation - 06

Spoiler

While Akane and the other girls are at a summer camp, Kenjirou has a plan to bring the girls closer together. As the girls participate in a beach clean-up activity, Rei is acting her usual distant self when approached by Akane. Later on, when Rei is alone, she is knocked out by Kenjirou and becomes part of the scientist’s plan.

After an interesting event revolving Akane’s swimsuit, the girls receive word that Rei has been taken to a nearby island. The girls speed off on a boat to the island to fight the mysterious ‘Alone’ that took her and without their transformation keys, which are in the possession of their teacher in accordance to Kenjirou’s plan. While en route to the Alone’s base, the girls are separated (Akane & Aoi, Wakaba & Himawari) and experience some obstacles, but they are saved by Rei (who’s in disguise) who has managed to break free from captivity and urges the girls to escape. Both pairs eventually reunite and face Kenjirou, who is piloting a robot. Rei appears once more telling the girls to escape, but Akane says that they won’t leave without their missing friend, which surprises Rei. Akane manages to stop the robot, utilizing a built in mechanism inside her swimsuit, and saves the day.

Back at the summer camp site, Kenjirou apologizes to the girls for involving them in his plan to bring them closer together. Rei is also informed of the event and is thanked for her help by the other girls, but she plays it off in her own way. As a result of the event, Kenjirou is presented with a bill for the expenses incurred by the operation.

So just blazed through Psycho Pass to the current episode and wanted to speak on some people’s “disappointment” in the revelation.

Spoiler

Comparing it to Minority Report isn’t even right; you might as well just generalize it and say they both involve humans. In MP you have a bath tub of 3 psychic humans, who together, predict crimes before they happen. They literally have visions of the shit before it happens. The Sybil System is a hive mind of computer and brains to form a giant ass hybrid organic/electronic supercomputer. Its not people with powers, its just the melding of 2 different kinds of computers.

Vividred is such a dumb show but I can’t stop watching it because of how fun it is to watch.

Vivid Red operation is like, the best show of the season. Its Mighty Morphin power Lolis feat. Fate Testarossa.

What is up with girls und panzer taking like, a 3 month hiatus? I mean, its weird enough a 12 episode show has 2 re-cap episodes…you’d think at least one of them would be after the long ass break.

The worst part about Psycho-Pass is having to wait every week for a new episode.

Psycho Pass 17

Spoiler

I was kind of disappointed that the Sibyl System is kind of like Minority Report but not. It’s a step above PSYCHIC PEOPLE IN FISH TANKS predicting crimes, but I was hoping it wasn’t anything to do with humans at all. A collective hive mind super computer is okay… but kind of disappointing. I still don’t understand that if the Sibyl System is a collective hive mind super computer filled with assumingly the minds of fucking crazy people, then why can’t they judge Makishima correctly? What makes him so special? I mean FUCK TOUMA KNOWS MAKISHIMA IS A FUCKING SERIAL KILLER HE SHOULD AUTOMATICALLY HAVE LIKE A 250+ CRIME COEFFECIENT. Oh well.

Kasei “dying” was kind of cool, but it doesn’t really mean much other than Makishima’s escape. I’m sure Touma is still “alive” within the Sibyl System, so it doesn’t really mean that much. There are probably more Kasei bodies in storage. Did they really not think Makishima wouldn’t figure out they’re FLYING IN A FUCKING COPTER-PLANE? I mean fuck man any change in inertia would let you figure that shit out rather quick. No security is kind of weird though.

I guess Makishima working his way out from the inside of the Bureau wasn’t something that was going to happen. Interesting to see how he’s going to bring down the Sibyl System now since his last plan failed.

Anyone else notice the downgrade in animation this episode? There certainly seemed to be a lot of QUALITY faces compared to earlier episodes’ animation.
The faces were disfigured like crazy. lol
Spoiler

Yozora’s cruel intentions of getting the best of “Meat” continues into play. She gets into Sena’s head and manipulates her to pull off the SEXY BEAM scene, hilarious comedy. You’re missing the forest for the trees, which is sad because it’s obvious Minority Report and Psycho Pass have a lot of thematic overlap. Read my second post on this page as most of it applies to MR as well and google dystopian sci fi while you’re at it. When I compared MR to PP I didn’t just mean the sci fi setting or pre crime plot device, I meant both works mine the same source material and ask similar questions to the audience.

PP 17

Spoiler

The Sybil system measures specific brain waves which Makishima doesn’t possess to determine crime coefficent so even if the conscious mind of one integrated into the system is aware of Makishima’s crimes it isn’t automatically added to the data. Different part of the brain, different data bank is what was suggested when they explained those who are “criminally asymptomatic”. Also ignoring the fact that PP explained it twice, keep in mind the human brain is still not fully understood even in the PP universe, so it really isn’t unreasonable that there are cracks in a system based on technology that is still in it’s infancy.
