Like I’ve said before 12’er you’re operating on the 4chan/gamefaqs mindset, and that doesn’t cut here on the Stupid Retarded Kids forums, here when you say someone is wrong about something that means you need to point out specifically what the other person said is wrong and why otherwise you’re just another youtube commenter transplant. Everything I’ve said holds water for reasons explained above and you fail to understand that just because I have not mentioned some of what your post does that doesn’t mean I’m not equally aware of the other aspects NGE may address. Some of what you said I think is you projecting and reading too much into NGE however, I can’t go into more detail on why until I’ve seen NGE again so I’ll hold off on that thought for now.

The deconstruction thing isn’t necessarily something that’s gonna impress everybody, and it’s not even relevant in this case. Some people just want likeable characters, and Shinji is not likeable. Doesn’t matter how groundbreaking he is or the fact that he’s intended to be that way.

Eva wouldn’t be Eva if it wasn’t about real shithead humans doing real shithead human things instead of being stereotypical bulletproof anime hero people. That’s the entire point. That’s what makes it a deconstruction of the genre. It doesn’t matter if you’re “impressed” by it being a deconstruction, whatever that means. To expect Shinji to not be weak like any real 14 year old boy being forced by his estranged father to be a weapon with the responsibility of saving the world from annihilation would is to completely miss the point of the show, so singling him out for criticism makes no sense. This is not hard to understand.

That level of “getting it” isn’t some high level tactic. It’s just paying attention. “Shinji is a wuss” is a dumb complaint. But either way, if you don’t like that Shinji is a wuss, you don’t like Eva, plain and simple. I don’t like Eva because I think it’s convoluted and pretentious as fuck with questionable writing, but it damn sure isn’t because Shinji is the only thing it makes sense for him to be.
