Anime & Manga Thread v.5 FAQ/IRC: See OP. Welcome to 2017

I don’t really see watamote that way…to me she’s just a girl who wants to be accepted and appreciated but has no idea how to do it. She’s bitter and warped by her isolation and completely disconnected from reality. It’s honestly one of the few shows this year I found myself really drawn to and I hope it doesn’t end too soon.

How is that a spoiler?! Calm down dickweed!

So what you are saying is, you are too smart and “with it” and watching the show ironically, and not actually the kind of loser who watches shows about little girls. Lie to yourself, but don’t lie to me, you hipster.

True otaku don’t seek popularity because real life doesn’t offer the instant gratifcation they need. Kuroki otakudom is a backstory. Never does it ever actually factor into the show in any kind of meaningful way. Observe characters like Konata Izumi or Nagi Sanzenin or “Penguin” Nankyoku, they are otaku, and it permeates their very being.

I resent your implication that people who like lolis are emotionally desolate or that shows with a loli lead character are the only shows losers continue to watch despite it being insultingly bad.

I’m isolated and disconnected from reality, but I’m not bitter or warped.

Some people can be.

Some people easily handle being alone left to their own devices…in watamote she isn’t someone who can handle the life she carved out for herself.

I can see how the first panel can be seen as one.

I thought it ended fine. The tension build up was basically relieved when we saw Rento meet Hobo Yura in the arcade. And then they closed her development with her coming back to the club with a new view on having fun while still being a strong personal player. Probably my favorite brand new show this season and I would almost certainly watch a season 2 of them visiting Sono in the US.

Man, I wanna read this thread but internet was out from Thursday until 3 hours ago and I have soooooo much to catch up on.

Get out.

I just started watching kimi no iru machi. It has been pretty decent so far.

It wasn’t the same forgettable boring ass shit. it was a completely different kind of forgettable boring ass shit. Who fucking cares? Does not liking something in a specific way make you feel better? “It sucks I have to hate moe when I could be hating Tenchi knockoffs instead or bad mecha anime instead?”

The best part is the real answer is staring you in the face and you’re too hard-headed to see it. Look at the size of that list of series. Now look at this:

1998: 59 total series. 2012: ONE HUNDRED FORTY FIVE. If 90% of most media is somewhere between forgettable and trash (and it is), then it stands to reason that there will be more forgettable stuff when there’s nearly 2 and a half times as much of it. Also, today you can pretty much watch any series within mere hours of it airing in Japan now. In 1998 you had to wait a up to a year or two for a company to pick it up for release, followed by a 6-12 month release period, to watch the shit and only maybe 20% got picked up. Another 50% got fansubbed, but you had to wait for laserdiscs or dvds to get released and then for some fansub group to get them, translate, and dub to VHS tape, then distribute them, which sometimes took nearly as long as a legit release and almost always took a minimum of 6 months. And with this comparison we’re ignoring the convenient fact that you picked 1998, which was a huge spike in anime production. 1996 and 1997 had 38 series, 1995 had 33, and pretty much every season before that had somewhere between 10 and 30 TV series.
So really, that 2.5x availability difference is closer to 5, maybe even 10x availability.

For some crazy reason the site where I used to get my fansub tapes from still exists.

http://soyokazefans.com/

Look at that list. There is a ton of garbage anime on that list. Most of it never got picked up, and a LOT of it got sequels or lengthy runs. And remember, this is from the time when fansubs cost fansubbers money to produce. They couldn’t just download a raw off a torrent and use some easy free software to sub. They had to buy laserdiscs or dvds, have either expensive dedicated subtitling hardware or an expensive subtitling PC setup, and often HIRE a translator because they were a lot harder to come by in those days. So look at all those shitty shows and realize that there is a whole extra layer of shitty shows that never even worked their way up to 3rd generation VHS tape status. Then try making that stupid ass argument again.

And fucking Weiss Kreuz got multiple seasons. Zenki went 51 episodes for reasons nobody will ever understand. The fact that you wanna act like bad shows getting extended runs is some new thing is hilarious.

So yeah, the overabundance of moe shit is dumb and boring, but if it wasn’t that, it’d be some other kind of garbage. People need to quit whining about the shit they don’t like and enjoy the shit they do.

PS. who the hell spaces 3 times at the end of a sentence? What 19th century school did you learn to type in?

GOd Weiss Kreuz was so fucking bad.

The best part about the whole VHS distro setup is that 90% of the time you were buying blindly unless you had somebody giving you recommendations you could trust or you caught a preview at a con that actually permitted showing fansubs. So since Weiss Kreuz had a following (mostly among sex-starved girl dorks) the club ordered like 4 tapes of it. Nobody made it past, like, episode 2. Shit was ball cancer in video form.

i fucking miss toonami and the old adult swim :’(

Eat a Dick warp. The point AGAIN is that people don’t want to watch four girl anime, saying it is good or bad is subjective, but trying to say it was ALWAYS around is not. So stfu scrub.

I knew this already.

Another quality post from a totally mature guy amirite?

Great job proving your point there sparky and not having everyone feel like they should cringe in your presence thinking to themselves “oh god it’s THAT guy, better break out the Lysol, so we can wipe off everything he touched with his dick beaters!!!”

This thread has become more interesting!

So who thought this was a good topic to bring up again? Watch what you like and let others watch what they like. At the end of the day, whatever makes money is what gets shoveled out.

This show gets me ROCK HARD!

Spoiler

I am not reading the manga, so i am going blindly off the show. But I hope the outcome between Eren vs Annie pt 2 is more in his favor. This guy is such a beast, and has some of the greatest heroic moments I have seen in an anime, but he keeps taking this near-death, ass whooping damage one time to many, and needs to score a win for himself.

If you’re going to be a one-trick pony, why does it have to be such a shitty trick?
