Anime & Manga Thread v.5 FAQ/IRC: See OP. Welcome to 2017

RIP Ephidel
RIP Alter
RIP dominos

Minami-ke: Good to see it back. I doubt it’ll be as good as S1 but I’m hoping it ends up better than S2 and S3.
Maoyuu: Medieval Spice and Wolf, really mediocre first episode.
Vividred Operation: [details=Spoiler]I never watched Strike Witches, so I must be in for something.[/details]

Still haven’t watched Sasami-san and Doki Doki hasn’t aired yet. That’s probably what I’ll end up watching, and I’ll probably only end up finishing two of those five shows anyway.

Chihayafuru 2 - 01

Chihayafuru 2 - 01

Spoiler

A new school year has stared and the school clubs (including the Karuta Club) are working to attract/recruit the new 1st year students as potential new club members. At a club presentation, Taichi and Chihaya take the stage and receive a positive reception, mainly due to their appearance, which has appeared to garner favor with both the female/male students in the audience. However, Chihaya somewhat fudges the moment up when Taichi asks her to say a few words, leaving some in the audience to think that her looks is all that she has going on for her. One student, Sumire, takes notice of Taichi and plans to try and get him as her boyfriend to offset the fact that she had just been dumped recently.

Later at the clubroom, while the Karuta Club members (especially Chihaya) wonders if they’ll get any new members to join (the club has to recruit new members or forfeit the clubroom), a rather large group of 1st years stops by to hand in their applications, including Sumire. Though Chihaya gives a brief introduction to karuta, and even goes through the motions of a tutorial match with Nishida and with Kana giving some details as well, the experience of the what the Karuta Club does goes over what the 1st year student expected as they appear to not really be interested in learning karuta. Sumire seems to consider Chihaya a rival of sorts, which could threaten her chances with Taichi, even Kana isn’t exempt from Sumire’s gaze due to her appealing stature.

After the 1st years leave, the Karuta Club discusses what they consider important, making Chihaya realize that everyone has different priorities. The ground then goes around and talk about what is important to them: Taichi (focus on Chihaya’s goal to become the next Queen, Class A stuffs), Kana (the etiquette of Karuta), Tsutomu (the status of the existence of the clubroom with some new recruits), Nishida (high school championship and concern for Taichi attaining Class A). When it’s Chihaya’s turn to say something, she ends up saying everything that the other members have already said, which makes her appear greedy in wanting everything, particularly noting that she wants to help Taichi achieve Class A among other things.

While Chihaya is having a session to teach the 1st years some basics about karuta, back at the clubroom, Taichi and the others are about to do some practice matches when he asks to be excused to he can go practice at the Shiranami Society (for some days of the week), taking note of what Nishida and what Chihaya had said earlier and giving him a new focus. Sumire, who is in attendance at Chihaya’s session, gets a bit emotional when she reads a poem that makes her think about her situation and when she spots Taichi leaving campus out of the corner of her eye, it prompts her to leave the session and chase after him. She manages to catch up to Taichi on the train and engages him in some small talk, while scheming to make him hers. However, when the subject of relationships come up, Taichi surprises Sumire by saying that he would rather not have a girl choose him but instead he would want someone to devote himself to (possibly thinking about what Chihaya had said before). After Taichi departs at his stop, Sumire is taken aback by the statement, thinking in a way that she was just rejected, but decides to still chase after him as she also departs from the train.

Spoiler

Akane lives with her sister, Momo, and her grandfather, Dr. Kenjirou Isshiki, who had created the Manifestation Engine, which has solved the world’s energy problems. One day, Akane and Momo find out that an accident occurred at their home and their grandfather has had his mind swapped into a toy doll/figure. This happens at around the time an Alone (unknown alien entity) suddenly appears and is making it’s way to where the Manifestation Engine is. Akane and Kenjirou begin to make their way to the site after he hands her a key, his latest creation. The Alone attacks the defensive forces sent out to stop it and easily destroys and almost takes out a civilian aircraft in the process but an air defense pilot sacrifices her plane to take the hit, though the pilot ejects from her craft before impact.

Akane notices that her friend Aoi is on the civilian aircraft and makes her way to the crash site on a nearby building with her grandfather’s help. However, when she rushes out to help Aoi, who is trapped in the wreckage as it teeters precariously on the edge of the roof area, Akane stops herself due to a fear of heights incurred in a traumatic event/accident when she was younger. The unstable civilian aircraft wreckage then falls over the side with Aoi still inside and Akane pushing though her fear rushes over the edge as well with her hover bike in an attempt to save her friend. Akane manages to reach Aoi then something occurs - the ‘key’ activates and oufits Akane with a powered suit/outfit that saves the girls from falling to their doom. Kenjirou contacts Akane and tells her the purpose of the key - which is to give her the power to fight against the Alone.

Spoiler

Haruka has had a difficult childhood due to her ESP, which has allowed her to hear the innermost thoughts of those around her. This in turn caused Haruka to suffer for revealing other people’s thoughts, which were likely to be private and unknowing thoughts, as people blamed her for the trouble that she caused by speaking what was on/in people’s minds. Everyone begins to disassociate and shun Haruka, including her friends and people/teachers at her school. Even the (unstable) marriage between Haruka’s parents is broken, causing them to break apart and eventually causing Haruka’s mother to leave her daughter with Haruka’s grandfather for all the trouble that she has apparently caused.

Alone (physically and emotionally), Haruka begins classes at a new school that she transferred to. However, an encounter with a student named Manabe (particularly his thoughts) leaves her wondering what the boy is thinking compared to everyone else. Manabe finds out about Haruka’s ability and thinks of it as an interesting thing, unlike Haruka where her past experiences with it have proven otherwise, and works on trying to befriend the girl despite having some interesting thoughts/speech that seem to confuse/embarrass Haruka. An averted accident due to Haruka’s ability makes her not want Manabe to get hurt later on and she tries her best to get him to reconsider friendship. Manabe though just wants to be Haruka’s friend and Haruka accepts his offer of friendship.

as much as i hated medaka box season 1, i had no interest in abnormal. but i decided to give the 2nd season a watch, just finished marathoning it, it was surpisingly fun to watch. being a straight up shounen is better for this anime IMO. looking forward to a season 3.

You’re better off reading the manga
With the sales it got it’s a miracle it even got a second season.

Maoyuu Maou Yuusha #2

Spoiler

When did Senjougahara learn to time travel and become a head maid for a demon king’s mansion? That said, we understand a bit more on how Maou plans to get the village’s agriculture and education going (the latter being not so successful so far), the whole slave/serf system and a slow build up of her relationship with the hero.

Sasami-san Ganbaranai #1

Spoiler

While the whole relationship between the shut-in Sasami and her brother is awkward; what happens later involves the whole city becoming chocolate and the also introduced Yagami sisters fighting the anthropomorphic chocolate plague with swords and high tech weaponry.

Yup, this is SHAFT being SHAFT alright.

Spring 2013 Preliminary List
Keep in Mind not everything is added since i notice a few things missing.
Although imo Spring is looking much better then Winter; looking Forward to Attack on Titan and Devil Survivor 2. Crime Edge seems interesting as well based on Trailer

Anime Series

OVA

Anime Movies

[spoiler/]

Season 3 is up in the air. They wanted to get to Kumagawa from the start but it looks like two seasons was the best deal they could get. Medaka Box makes its money through tank sales and apparently those are doing well. No telling if that’s enough for WSJ to waste more money on an anime.

Like Doritos said, read the manga. It’s FRESH.

What I plan on watching

Devil Survivor 2: Loved the game and I loved the P4 adaption so let’s see how they do this with hopefully a bigger budget
Kakumeiki: It’s CGI mechs so that fucking sucks but it’s gotten to the point that I don’t think handrawn mechs are viable these days so I’ll give it a shot
Yondemasuyo Azazel-san 2nd: YES YES AND MORE YES! I fucking love the first season
Suisei no Galgantia: I sure hope I don’t see Urobutchi Gen in EVERY fucking season now. As honestly only like his depressing stories such as Fate/Zero and Saya so I’ll give this a shot
Higurashi no naku Koro ni Kaku: Now THIS is an interesting one and a shocker. After the ABYSMALL adaption by DEEN who thank god we don’t see much of anymore, I’m quite interested in what this version hopefully by a new studio will come out like.
Arata Kangatari: After reading the description I’m actually quite interested, I might check out the manga but overall it looks like a fairly simple story with lots of potential
Karneval: I love Manglobe and this shit looks pretty fabulous so I’ll give it a go
Ginga Kikotai: I ALREADY KNOW WHAT THIS IS GONNA TURN OUT TO BE LIKE! But it’s a mecha so I must watch it
Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199: SCI FI! SPACE OPERA! MILITARY! DIRECTED BY YUTAKA FUCKING IZUBUCHI! THIS IS DEFINITELY MY MOST ANTICIPATED SHOW OF THE SEASON!
Shingeki no Kyojin: I love the manga and the trailer looked like animation beauty so I can’t wait for this
Uta no Prince sama 2000%: FUCKING
FABULOUS!
Photo Kano: READ THAT FUCKING DESCRIPTION! IT’S SO BLATANT! I SIMPLY MUST WATCH IT!

OVA’s
Highschool DxD: Because the series was bonerific, I desire more
Mirai Nikki: Redial: Intesrested in how this one turns out as I’m not sure if it’s adapting anything from the manga
Ro Kyu Bu: LOLI BASKETBALL! FUCK YEAH!
Gundam Unicorn: Loved the previous ones so pumped for this
Seitokai Yakuindomo: I adore the series, though I wish they would just flatout make another season

moves that I won’t watched subbed until god knows when

Hanasaku Iroha: Loved the series
Dragon Ball Z: A potentially well animated HD Dragon Ball Z movie? SIGN ME UP!
Code Geass: I don’t even know what to say. Code Geass ranks up there with one of my favorite anime’s and season 2 was so god awful how could you NOT watch it. I’mn iterested to see how this one goes
Saint Onii-san: WHY WOULD I NOT WATCH A MOVIE ABOUT BUHDDHA AND JESUS AS ROOMIES!?
Hal: Looks Satoshi kon levels of trippy
Kick heart: Is this actually coming out? Kickass, I can’t wait
Saint Seiya: It’s fucking Saint Seiya that’s why

WHOOWEE!
THANK GOD FOR UNLIMITED BANDWITH!
Though I’m probably gonna need to get a new HDD soon.

Kara…the animation.

I…wow.

Wonder if it will feature the butt dance.

What are some examples of top-tier animation in anime TV/movies?

Redline

By “top-tier animation” I assume how pretty everything looks from the characters to setting backdrops?
In that case i recommend

  • SHAFT anime like Madoka Magica,Monogatari series, and *Maria Holic *
-KEY anime adaptions like Clannad, Little Busters!, and Angel Beats!(Had KEY writers involved so pretty much KEY even if there was no VN.)

Just what pops in my head without having to google around

Another season of Ore no? Interesting, although I don’t recall if I ever finished the first season. I also approve another season of Seitokai Yakuindomo.
