Did he really learn how to play the piano in like…a minute? How does humanity survive? If the world is decimated, where do they get basic resources like food and water? How is the construction, maintenance and operation of complex machinery possible in a world where presumably huge amounts of skilled labor has been lost? Where would the raw materials come from? Like seriously, are cloning machines like easy bake ovens that can be operated by like, 1 guy? What about energy? Why would a mile long escalator still be operational after the apocalypse? Why was that piano there in the first place? Is Asuka’s eyepatch relevant to the story, or is it just to make her more moe?
Personally, I think they were afraid of having an strong, assertive woman so they gimped her so that gang rape doujins would still be plausible.
Ah-ah-ah. You can’t say that. The characters chose to be that way. It reflects the attitude of how real people are. Plus, you all stopped me when I tried at that same “could’ve been avoided” statement with Psycho-Pass.
Rofl, yeah I know the characters “chose” to be that way, that’s what makes it so incredibly stupid. They chose to be that way knowing it would make a mentally weak 14 year old capable of destroying the world, uncomfortable and alienated, ALL THE WHILE knowing there is an opposing faction that would love to have him. It’s a massive lack of common sense from people who are suppose to have some intelligence, and are well aware of Shinji’s personality. Asuka’s going in on Shini about being a brat when apparently everyone else is a brooding emo child.
God the more I think about it the more annoying the movie becomes. But I guess if everyone had common sense it wouldn’t be a very entertaining movie.
Oreimo S2 episode 4 made me laugh at the end. Can’t wait for those words to mean absolutely nothing next episode, probably for some sort of plot device for the next episode.
Oreimo S2
Spoiler
Kirino probably needs Kyousuke to pretend to be her boyfriend for the day to get some guy to stop bugging her or something horribly cliché.
EOE essentially replaces episode 25 and 26 of the TV series. It alone was FANTASTIC.
My friends who enjoy NGE all told me to ditch the last two episodes and watch EOE. It made a lot more sense and the film ended with a bang (literally).
I don’t claim to have all the answers since I’m probably about just as clueless as everyone else is. The fact that 4.0 isn’t out yet, meaning that a very big hole of information has intentionally been left out doesn’t help things either.
[details=Spoiler]**Did he really learn how to play the piano in like…a minute? **
If anything I find this to be artistic licensing at work since I find it pretty hard to stomach myself as well. They probably figured no one wants to hear a grumbling mess of notes, since that’d be ear-grating and if they throw in horses and pony, it’d justify everything. Cause y’know, art…
How does humanity survive? If the world is decimated, where do they get basic resources like food and water?
The thing I find funny is that the people closest to Near Third Impact (Misato, Ritsuko and the rest of the GeoFront crew) have all miraculously survived where as everyone else on the face of the planet didn’t?
Kaiji, I think is heavily tied into the founding of WILLE and I think WILLE HQ may actually be that Marine Research facility that he took everyone to in 2.0, given how navel like WILLE and the Wunder are. I speculate that this is also where the rest of refugee humanity is taking shelter. This shows Kaiji’s dedication to having life survive on Earth rather than chasing after God and evolution, which also fits in with his character imo (watermelons and all).
How is the construction, maintenance and operation of complex machinery possible in a world where presumably huge amounts of skilled labor has been lost? Where would the raw materials come from?
From the WILLE side of things, it seems like they’re just salvaging and using whatever scrap parts they can come up with. The preview for 4.0 show that they clearly they don’t have the capacity to fully repair an Eva as they mashed together 02 and 08 for a Frankenstein-like creation. Unit 02 being patched up as hell, missing half it’s face plating and being fitted with a prosthetic arm alongside Askusa’s hackjob plugsuit repairs (tapes everywhere, I mean really, you just gonna tape the entire plugsuit? lol) seems very indicative of a lack of resources. Although sometimes I do wonder where the hell they even got a brand spanking new Eva 08 for Mari in the first place, perhaps it was already built and developed before Near Third Impact?
The Wunder itself is very organic and I assume they’ve managed to just jack an Angel and mutilate it into this flying-whale-pirate-space-ship thing somehow. This explains why Unit 01 is able to power the damn thing and agrees with Ristuko’s one cryptic line referring to “Adams Vessel” as being “Wunder’s original master”. If you look at at the organic front end of the Wunder, it looks very similar and if not identical to the head that unit 09 (aka Adams Vessel) grows back towards the end of the film when it attempts to hijack the Wunder before getting blown up by unit 02’s kamikaze strat.
Like seriously, are cloning machines like easy bake ovens that can be operated by like, 1 guy? What about energy? Why would a mile long escalator still be operational after the apocalypse?
I agree, usually in post apocalyptic settings technology is actually meant to go backwards, not advance. How Nerv is even able to mass produce all the Eva series for the next movie alongside the Nemesis series (artifical Angels that Nerv keeps throwing at WILLE) in this one is beyond me.
There’s a lot they didn’t tell us in the way of Near Third Impact and it is very evident that shit did indeed go down as a result of it with the GeoFront gone and humanity wiped out. From what we do know though is that Lilith played a rather major role in it. This is one of the quick cuts away in the 2.0 when Shinji triggers Third Impact.
It kinda seems superficial at first, and really looks like it’s just there to indicate that shits about to get real now.
But then when 3.0 rolls around.
We find out she played as much of a part in Third Impact as much as Shinji did. This leads me to believe as to why Kaworu ended up having to descend down Central Dogma in Unit 06 (as seen in the original preview for 3.0) to spear Lilith as well after having speared Unit 01 at the end of 2.0 to stop Third Impact entirely. The mechanics of how Impact works is still iffy to me, but it could’ve been that Lilith may’ve been fucking shit up long after Shinji had gotten speared, or since they never really specified how long Shinji was floating up there in God mode for, it could’ve been long enough of a time to have completely wrecked house.
Why was that piano there in the first place? Is Asuka’s eyepatch relevant to the story, or is it just to make her more moe?
14 years is a pretty long ass time. If given 14 years I’m sure Kaworu would be able to at least find or build a piano for himself, especially considering how he deactivated that bomb collar pretty effortlessly. I’m just more amused at the fact that he had to wait an extra 14 years on top of who knows how much longer he was brooding on the moon for before he actually got to meet Shinji lol
Asuka’s eyepatch I think is going to be relevant. It’ll have something to do with being contaminated by the 9th Angel in 2.0 and the way she refers to other humans as Lilin at the end of the film implies (to me anyway) that she’s actually something different now, like Rei and Kaworu. (And perhaps maybe Shinji too since he’s gone through a merger with Unit01so to speak.)

Yeah it does replace the last two eps. Also if you watched Death and Rebirth, it kinda shows the start of EOE.
But after the directors cut versions of episodes 23 and 24, I believed everything just randomly exploded because honestly either way your not going to like the outcome. It’s either “Congratulations!” or Oh dear god…What the fuck happened?
Which kind of makes be believe that peoples expectations for 4.0 already maybe too high…it’s kinda scary.
aw man i remember when i first watched ep24 and 25, i thought they were filler eps, im like “wtf is going on? this shit is so random” , but after watching EOE it all made sense. i hope eva 4.0 all makes sense…
k going to write my thoughts on something for once:
i’ve read most of shinmai fukei kiruko-san - yknow, that one manga that artists drew hentai of the main character immediately as serialization began. story’s about this badass mercenary-turned policewoman (kiruko) being a junior to a pervy generic protag cop (haruki), and the joke is that kiruko is crazy powerful and goes way too far trying to solve crimes and haruki has to pay for the damages. there’s not much to the story for the first couple chapters since it’s mentioned repeatedly that there’s hardly any crimes going on, so it’s basically filler. then two supporting characters come in that are used to lead into kiruko’s past and personality a bit, which is ultimately more interesting than anything else. and after showing most of kiruko’s past, it feels like there’s not much left to tell story-wise.
this manga’s a good example of a great character with an interesting backstory being bogged down with a weak supporting cast with typical character tropes, and the comedy aspect hinders the storytelling. if haruki wasn’t a perv, or at least was able to work together with kiruko on the same level and the story was something to take seriously (like having to deal with legit serious crimes that took chapters to solve), it could’ve been something. but, looks like the manga is constantly in last place in the ranking, and may get canceled. at the very least, i would hope to get more info about kiruko before it ends. great character design too.
edit: actually scratch that, taking away the comedy would lose some of its charm, and yet it’s not sustainable as-is with how uninteresting everything is other than kiruko.
all in all, i want to shove my cock deep down kiruko’s diamond-shaped mouth and help myself to some heavenly paizuri with her. honk honk
old thought from back when it dropped, and then i found the manga. samurai deeper kyo anime is just flat out atrocious. i have no idea what they were thinking with it. the anime was like the imagination of samurai deeper kyo from someone who has no idea what it is, is high on crack, and suffers from some type of mental retardation.
what a waste. arksys, make a samurai deeper kyo game now.
Yuyushiki is shaping up to be a neat fun little show. The artstyle kinda irked me at first since their eyes are so damn high up on their heads at times, but it eventually grows on you and their facial expressions, particularly the eyes just oozes with Hidamari wideface lol. Saki from SSY voices the purple haired girl and it’s nice to see her talent shine through here since I she can hardly tell at all. Although I do find the contrast a little amusing, going from such a serious character in Saki to a complete joker in Yuyushiki. Even when she sings the OP along with the other VA’s you don’t even notice any similarities from her SSY role.
Did they ever re-release Death and Rebirth and EOE? I know i got them ages ago just can’t find my copies. Kinda sad that 3.33 didn’t have abit more mech action but lets hope 4.0 ain’t going to be a 5 year wait.
Death and Rebirth is a condense recap of the anime series that setsups for EOE. It’s not that bad tbh.
ADV doesn’t exist anymore and the licensing on the original anime and featured movies are in limbo at the moment(from the last i’ve heard), your best bet is Amazon, and Ebay.
I write everything down as I’m viewing the ep. Onto my thoughts on Aku no hana 4:
[details=Spoiler]The opening monologue was great, the line about lazy sealions and him being the seashell is particularly foreshadowing. It makes me wonder how we’ll see how he’ll break out his metaphorical shell and how he’ll begin clubbing seals Holden Caulfield style. So far he’s used his sense of a alienation to withdraw into his own world of reverencing purity while holding a deep sense of besmirched curiosity. This seems to hint towards my line of thinking of Naka drawing out things from the MC. With this said the opening of the episode starts out very strong if not a little predictable (Saeki not being upset should come off as no surprise).
I have to say I really love the use of silouettes, I know I’ve stated this before but I feel compelled to reiterate that the “camera work” on this is pretty awesome. The scenes of Naka and Kasuga frolicking by the riverside by example have great use of triangular shots that shows the body language that Naka holds dominance over Kasuga. Aesthetically this show and episode is great, specially with the improving rotoscoping (as Aria mentioned). I absolutely loved how they used the usually jarring factor of the teeth to show how distressing the chiding was from Kasugas’ peers.
… And then there was Saeki, Kasuga and Naka intersecting point and Nakas devilish Grinch-esque grin. This is the harbinger of the point of no return folks (with crows and all). The followup meeting between Naka and Kasuga was intriguing with it’s romeo/juliette window rocks, meeting under the shroud of darkness and Nakas lack of glasses: all signs continue to point to tragedy. As the ep winds down we see Naka show her second sign of vulnerability in the bathroom stall. She confesses in her own way that she needs Kasuga, she can’t downright express it in a normal way yet she still says it after a pretty awesome shout.
Then she confesses that SHE IS going to tear down Kasugas barriers and this seems like a even bigger reveal. Kasuga and Naka now are finally starting to see eye to eye and be on the same page minutes before Saeki shows up. Now it’s time for Kasuga to choose between light and dark roll credits.[/details]*

[]Fujisaki has a strong start at the beginning of the grand final match against Mizusawa, which is highlighted by Sakurazawa’s karuta legacy of experience and training regimen - the pride of Fujisaki.
[]Shinobu appears to be bored watching the match. However, she notices the ‘style’ of reading of Kyoko Yamashiro (Rion’s grandmother), and is able to discern the info that her tone of voice is able to give off. Shinobu also notes that in most situations, she could beat Suo, but if Kyoko were to be the reader, it could prove to be somewhat problematic, even for her.
[]Chihaya struggles to find her rhythm after Rion builds up a lead on her. At one point, she recalls Kana telling her to ‘visualize’ the poems being read, and after imagining in her mind that a poem could be associated with having a ‘color’, Chihaya manages to take a card. The following exchange proves to be critical as it appears that Chihaya has injured her index finger on her right hand.
[]Rion is a particular player herself, as she only acclimates to a certain style of card reading. She notices that Chihaya may have indeed injured herself during the last exchange and she worries about her condition. Chihaya slowly tries to build up some momentum, despite her injury and recalls some words about injury in a match from Harada.
[]Shinobu is noticed by one of the officials and is made to sit up in front and closer to the playing field, garnering the attention of the crowd. This time around, she takes notice of the Chihaya vs Rion match and offers some commentary from her POV.
[]Chihaya focuses and continues to make a comeback by taking a one-syllable card that she had sent over to Rion’s side, utilizing her technique and hearing, surprising everyone.
[*]The other Mizusawa team members (Taichi, Nishida, Komano, and Tsukuba), are all having a hard time with their own matches, but after seeing Chihaya’s determination to play on despite her injury, it inspires them to fight on.
The Fujisaki karuta club having 50 members is quite impressive. That training regimen is pretty detailed and thorough, with emphasis on physical ability/stamina and various play stuffs.
Tsukuba seemingly gets nothing but quirky opponents (so far). Nishida’s opponent could possibly rival Retro’s stance-style.
lol @ Shinobu. She goes from ‘IDGAF’ to ‘my interest is piqued’. Even her seating between Miyauchi and Sakurazawa was a nice touch.
Harada with the game-changing advice stuffs. Where is he?
