Anime & Manga Thread v.4 FAQ/IRC: See OP. Thread over. Move onto v.5

I really need to watch more of Tiger and Bunny.

Also I think Japan has it right. Scarf>Cape. The only two dudes who pull off capes imo are Batman and Superman.

Is the new geass unrelated? I never watched any of it previously, but if Kazuki Akane is on it, I have to try it out at least.

I really want a S3 of Birdy though =(

Usagi Drop will probably stay fine since it won’t really have enough episodes to get into the timeskip.

T&B has been serious since a few episodes ago, shit has been ramping up

Random anime thoughts:
-Aya Hirano’s career is pretty much over now that news of her scandal have been confirmed. Apparently, she was sleeping with band members hence why her recording label tossed her. Honestly, I don’t care what she does in her personal life. She’s getting crucified because she went the idol route and this doesn’t really reflect well. Probably wouldn’t have been that bad if she took a different route in her career.
-Kazuki Akane set to direct the new Geass anime. Fuck yeah to this because Kazkuki Akane has directed a lot of my personal favorite animes and I’m one of the few that actually enjoyed Geass despite S2 being shaky to put it loosely.
-Loving Usagi Drops still. Might change depending on how the story unfolds later on.
-Kami-sama no Memo-chou is also pretty good.
-Tiger & Bunny shit just got serious.

Kinda stupid how everyone bashes her for having sex with a band member but if the guy had sex with another girl no one would give a damn.Japan is so biased lol

I should have clarified; I never read the manga. Maybe it’s like 700 times better; who knows.

Well I’m not a screenwriter just yet  but I think the dialogue is important period, not just to me.

One example of many:

Envy

[details=Spoiler]The episode where Envy was finally killed:

Roy and Envy have a bunch of dialogue where Roy’s trying to get Envy to confess, and spend like a third of the episode on this one convo. Here’s what needed to happen: Roy makes his accusation, Envy dances around it, Roy says something to get under Envy’s skin, moment of tension, Envy confesses maniacally. BAM, done. Here’s what actually happened: Envy waxes poetic about his thoughts on humans for like 73 lines (slight exaggeration only), Roy calls him stupid a whole bunch more times, they FINALLY get to the point, and I’m wondering why this didn’t happen 10 mins ago. Or 30 episodes ago. It’s inelegant, and it’s time wastingly boring; I already know the motivations, so get on with it. All this useless exposition does is pad the show.

Devil’s advocate time: maybe someone told Bones to pad the show, to increase the episode count. /shrug

Big irony: that very same episode, Roy shuts up some overlong lines by burning the shit out of Envy. Appreciated from both a “holy shit he’s burning the shit out of a homunculus again” standpoint AND a “holy shit he’s doing to the show what I wish I could” perspective.

Later, Envy’s beat, and in his vagina mouth slug form, he witnesses the warring humans banding together, gets pitied, then emotionally self-destructs and kills himself. That last sentence is all the checkpoints; all you need is the occasional dramatic pause to let it sink in, and bam. But HOLY FUCK they could not have dragged this on longer. First Envy tries to get everyone to fight again… for like 3 HOURS (slight exaggeration), then spends another 3 getting lectured, then another 3 crying out “OMG I was figured out by lowly humans” before FINALLY ending both his misery and mine.[/details]

I think you’re dead on about an adaptation being the issue: I think the same thing about, say, the Harry Potter flicks. I never read the books, but it felt like the films were trying to be “books in film format” (if that makes sense), shoehorning in as much as humanly possible with no regard for cinematic form. And when I say “cinematic form” I don’t mean artsy nonsense films: the original Die Hard introduces all its players very quickly and fluidly, and doesn’t linger on anything dat ain’t need lingerin’, and it’s just an action flick.

Lost train of thought. Must eat breakfast.

i was so ready to not watch fate/zero cause i hated fate/stay night, but i learned yuki kajiura’s composing the series which kinda leaves me no choice =/

So I guess no more Haruhi related stuff for her if they decide to make more huh?

Yea that sounds like an adaptation issue. That whole event was like 3 chapters long which really amount to around 10 minutes of reading.

Specs, maybe you should read the manga?

Seiyuu fans are seriously the worst. They need to differentiate between what is a scandal and what is a normal thing a grown woman does. Yes, adults sleep with people, deal with it. I actually have more respect for Hirano’s honesty which says more about who a person really is than the sea of idols who let themselves be dehumanized by their labels to preserve some unreal virginity which apparently only Japanese Otaku believes exists.
Otaku fans are never really fans, they never embrace the person, just the neatly packaged commercial they’re sold as. I tried saying the same thing in 2chan and everyone blows up.

you watch it for Alice, no shame in admitting it~

If your career is not being a slut, maybe you shouldn’t get caught with three dicks in your mouth.

If a great football player gets caught with 10 dicks in his mouth and still plays great football, let him play football. Her career is to voice act. Anything else is just fake image gimmicks really.
…3 dicks? Good shit Aya, fuck the world, keep those otaku raging.

Half a football players job isn’t a public image gig. Half of Hirano’s job is displaying a certain public image. I’m not saying she isn’t being held to impossible standards cuz she is but still…Her job is to portray a certain image and she failed in doing so. I agree with a lot of what you’re saying in your initial post but she knew what she was getting into as well.

It’s Japan, what do you expect? They’re outraged when a voice actor gets married without them knowing.

Stay free, Japan.

Sure radiant, but even knowing that all my life, it still irritates me that there is still such a massive culture built on being fake. Politicians, seiyuus, Athletes… It happens in sports all the time too, scandals, traffic tickets and DUIs regularly prevent athletes from entering season games. But that’s getting off topic. how bout DAT ANIME

Using your football example, yeah, you can still play football. But good luck getting endorsements.

If you are selling your image, not your skills, and you fuck it up by doing something to compromise that, then it is all on you.

An Athlete getting a DUI should disqualify him from the event because the stupid fuck should be jail. I don’t feel sympathy for athletes those stupid dick wads get away with so much shit that they shouldn’t just because they play sports. All famous people do. Just looks at that stupid bitch Lindsey Lohan. How is that cunt not serving a tenner yet? If it where you an me we’d have been lucky to get 3 strikes, much less all the lee-way her stupid ass gets.

I understand what you’re saying but your making bad comparisons here. Being crucified for being whorish is pretty different from being crucified for breaking the law and putting others lives at risk.

call me weird, but I like people for people, not image. It’s really just sex. She didn’t put together a dog fighting op (though that would be hilarious). I never really respected Hirano until she had the balls to say fuck public image consulting, this is me.

mm, that was a terrible example really. I was just using it to say people get nailed for things that have nothing to do with their job. They should still take the full force of the punishments.

So you don’t really care about her talent or anything at all then?

It wasn’t just that she had sex, it’s that she took pictures of herself having sex with her band members. I think that’s the nail in the coffin.

Her as a voice actress was ok. Her work didn’t stand out too much outside of haruhi. She was beginning to be like Rie and getting pigeon holed. Her singing is alright. I’m talking about if I had to have an opinion of her as a media personality since everyone else seems to have one. TBH she was probably over as a seiyuu before any of this started.
