Anime & Manga Thread v.4 FAQ/IRC: See OP. Thread over. Move onto v.5

You won’t care about Nina at all by the time you finish the show.

You are at the threshold. Prepare to realize Kou’s an idiot, Nina’s a bitch, and Gato is just flat.

Did you check the Skull Girls panel?

mhmm, the game handles very smoothly even without the completed UI. Be excited for it.

I played an older build at reveLAtions, that game is going to be AMAZING.

kyoko all day erry day

There are language and cultural barriers, for sure. My gripes come from when, even when one considers said barriers, something is still horrendously contrived (Char’s Counterattack) or chock full of bad, bad dialogue (the 2009 Fullmetal Alchemist series). Some of my favorite works of fiction are anime, and yeah, I have to realize, when I watch them, they don’t talk like I’m used to in Canada eh.

I’m not sure where I was going with that. Zapiclone kicking in. Sleepy.

Full Frontal

Spoiler

Is he actually Char? Like fo’ realz?

Spoiler

A clone of Char. Literally.

Zeta 36

Spoiler

Fucking Tomino. Your streak of killing “evil” love interests never ends, does it?

holy mother of FUCK! @ the ending of Monster ep.44…

That Madoka beat em up will be released on the 13th of this month, fyi.

Mawaru Penguindrum #5

Spoiler

Wow, this was certainly an eventful episode. That girl who got pushed down the stairs survives and manages to get her memory wiped out; Ringo finally sees how the Survival Strategy takes place (and how her throwing of the penguin hat caused Kanba to go on a rather well animated and wild chase) and more about how Kanba’s father is pretty badass. Speaking of Kanba, interesting how he was able to manage to get enough money to pay for their home…alongside that penguin logo showing up.

Told your ass.

I am happy to say that starting with episode 5 it is getting good. No more singing stupid songs on the way to school and 1 mintue battles like the first 4 episodes.

Episode 60 of the 2009 Fullmetal Alchemist series, and holy fuck this show is AWFUL. Like seriously, a drinking game where you take a swig every time someone muttered an entirely pointless, irrelevant line would leave you so alcohol poisoned, our common evolutionary ancestor wouldn’t evolve right, annihilating humanity. The 2003 series is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better.

Why is the 2009 series better received, again?

i didnt notice anything wrong with the show

I haven’t watching most of Brotherhood but it stayed in line with the Manga then it’s a million times better then 03 show which was fucking stupid in so many ways.

From what I’ve heard of the 03 series, it’s because the 09 series just makes way more sense.

I won’t deny the 2003 series had its share of problems, but compared to the 2009 series it is a fountain of focus, like Bones said, “Hey, we don’t need like 130 characters, so let’s trim a chunk of 'em and keep the show focused on the Elrics.” This 2009 show, no hyperbole, has like 1 good line for every 10 (by “good” I mean “was necessary to advance the plot, show thoughtful subtext, etc.”). Most of it is people other than the Elrics talking, often about shit that’s already been talked about or just flat out exposition. The other big part of the show is people other than the Elrics actually acting, and that’s rather unusual given the “Brotherhood” title.

The 2009 series is boring at best, and insulting at worst. I don’t even know if I want to finish it, and I only have to stomach 4 more episodes. It feels like English class all over again: teacher’s lazy and/or a moron and is really just looking at word counts, so I write one sentence and rewrite it 50 more times. That’s Brotherhood. At least every new ep of the 2003 show seemed to give me something progressive.

Shrug I dunno then. You’re the onyl person i’ve ever heard have these problems. I haven’t seen the show but I really really liked the Manga so I dunno man.

Edit: The Manga was a monthly manga. You only got one chapter a month it had to be a bit more diligent in keeping you up to date with everything. Transferring that to a weekly show could stuff up the writing.

I think the only reason you have so much more of an issue with it than most if that as a screenwriter, I would guess the dialog is the most important thing to you right?

I have only read the manga, which was released one chapter a month mind you, but I know the 2009 anime is a close adaptation of that, so maybe the change from going into an animated format somehow makes it’s issues more apparent?

My biggest issue is IMO the 2003 plot became really dumb later on, some shit didn’t make sense, and overall was just less interesting. Even if it was better written from a technical standpoint.

The fall season looks incredibly strong. Definitely watching the following:
Guilty Crown
Fate/Zero
Tamayura
Ika Musume S2
Working S2
Last Exile
Persona 4
Bakuman S2

There’s some miscellaneous titles that look interesting to me but they could easily be crap. OAV’s looking good as well with the new Aa! Megami-sama, Seitokai, and Deadman Wonderland. I jizzed my pants when I saw Scryed in the movies section.

Random anime thoughts:
-Aya Hirano’s career is pretty much over now that news of her scandal have been confirmed. Apparently, she was sleeping with band members hence why her recording label tossed her. Honestly, I don’t care what she does in her personal life. She’s getting crucified because she went the idol route and this doesn’t really reflect well. Probably wouldn’t have been that bad if she took a different route in her career.
-Kazuki Akane set to direct the new Geass anime. Fuck yeah to this because Kazkuki Akane has directed a lot of my personal favorite animes and I’m one of the few that actually enjoyed Geass despite S2 being shaky to put it loosely.
-Loving Usagi Drops still. Might change depending on how the story unfolds later on.
-Kami-sama no Memo-chou is also pretty good.
-Tiger & Bunny shit just got serious.
